I remember seeing the first "Scream" at the movie theater there... About a year after this video.... Lived up on Banker's Hill next to Balboa Park... Loved San Diego in the 90's...... The whole city feels so busy and crowded now...

I first arrived there in late 1997 while stationed in the Navy and saw "Titanic!"

It’s ironic how this mall was designed to revitalize downtown SD, and now downtown is revitalized and Horton Plaza is pretty much dead.

SO glad you shot this video in it's heyday - remember when it was so chic to have a glass of white wine and shop at Nordies!

People hate on Horton Plaza now, but it sparked life into downtown. It's really sad what is happening to retail businesses. The internet is taking their lunch and fewer and fewer people have any discretionary money to spend anyway.

So many beautiful memories. Time flies by. The 90s were the best years of my life, I was a child. I am 29 and seeing videos like these make me tear up.

I was 15 when this video was recorded, and loved to hang out there. Such good memories of going to Sam Goody's and listening to CD's, and wandering outside the mall. Back then there were lots of homeless people outside the mall and it wasn't the busiest or fun mall compared to Fashion Valley. It was more of a tourist trap and not many locals went there.

I was 16. Same. I remember the place since it opened. It was and is one of a kind. Very few places still look modern that were built 33 years ago.

Holy shit, so many memories are flooding back right now! I used to go into that Warner Bros. Studio Store and Sam Goody all the time as a kid. And now this mall’s completely dead and about to be turned into an office complex for startups. What a damn shame.

Thank you for this video, unfortunately this mall is now abandoned and slowly going down. only think left is smaller stores and the movie theater 😔

3 years later, it is being knocked down and re-developed to a office space and maybe some residential. And they are getting rid of that structure, it was a work of modern art imo

I stop by there every few years and see it become more lonely every time. It's really sad to see a downtown die like it is now.

I remember La Salsa, and there was this Gnome troll statue at the east side of the mall. Scared the hell out of me as a kid. Saw a bunch of blockbuster movies at the theater.

I remember going to Horton with my stepmom (RIP), going to the shops. I can't remember the name of this eatery right now, but it was known for its many types of fries.

I had to cross staircases a few times to get to the right floor in parking garage. Kinda scary. I remember THE NATURE COMPANY, SUNCOAST MOTION PICTURE COMPANY, I tried to park in same area to not get lost! Vegetable 🌽 or Fruit 🍎 floors ?!?!
    Avocado 🥑, Strawberry 🍓, Corn 🌽, Grape 🍇. What else ?

I can remember exactly how this place looked the day it opened and to my recollection, the only place that survived from opening day was the Panda Inn which remained a time capsule since opening day. Every other place was changed.

So we just went to Horton Plaza today and man, times have changed. I remember going there as a kid back in the 90s and it was such a good time. My dad would take us out of school and eat at the food court and I remember when one of the eateries, I don’t remember which one, sold a big cup of french fries that we would just binge on. haha, good times. I wish I knew the name. :/
