Having ran this on Sunday, I have to disagree with Simon and Sabrina on their point of it being 'not flat'. I measured 200ft of elevation gain over 13.1 miles.. if that isn't flat, then I'm not sure what is. Miles 10-12 were downhill, more or less. For anyone thinking about racing this, the experience was fantastic. It was well organised, had great vibes and covered a fantastic route 👏let's be grateful to participate in these races..

I have to agree with the comment above, over the half distance you can’t get much more flat than Cambridge! I’ve ran it 3 times and will be next year, would recommend it to anyone.
Have to agree. The only noteworthy hills are a short rise through Grantchester (maybe 10m elevation?) and the bridge at 2:55 which is worse to run down than up. Everything else is like a 1% slope. The wind was more significant than the hills, and yes I was "gunning it" (haha still a little sore today - I ran in the low 1:10s). It's well-organised, had great conditions on Sunday and attracts a really fast field - my only criticism is the transfer/withdrawal policy is pretty harsh.
I agree . This vlog is very unfair . It's a well organised, well supported event . The marshalling was the best ever . The support from the town was great ....and 3 water stops with gels?
Thanks for sharing. Great footage. I ran it as a Cambridgeshire resident and we had fantastic conditions Sunday. I would recommend this race, it’s popular and well supported with volunteers. The start can be very slow and congested, the long steady drop from Grantchester / Trumpington into the City felt nice at the end and helped bag a PB. Lots of PB’s amongst our club runners Sunday. 🙏.

I did this event on Sunday and you are right Chris, it was very congested if you started in a later wave. That said (apart from the goodie bag) I couldn’t really criticise anything. I hope the ratings don’t deter people, some will love the opportunity to run through the grounds of the truly iconic Kings college-others I guess will just see it as a Manor House 😂
yeah I make you right I think this event will only build and get better every year. Hopefully they can sort the congestion but its a fast course

If this gets me called a hater or blocked so be it, but some people hang on your every word and might not enter Cambridge based on this review, but it's unfair and inaccurate.
It is flat. Very flat.
5 out of 10 and boring ? It's one of the most famous cities in the UK, globally well known and we ran past and through some very famous landmarks often used in films, then out to the countryside and back into the city with big encouraging crowds. The 'manor house' with gravel referred to was King's College which I think featured in the Chariots of Fire film, do we ever get smooth surfaces for the duration in any race ?
In the build-up they bombard you with information on the course, drinks stations, parking, etc, it is very well organised. They have not seized the full commercial opportunity after the race, but it was a cold day and not one for hanging around.
Your friends have been incredibly harsh, I'd like to know which course gets a higher score than four/five ? The cynical part in me thinks it's a wind-up to bring attention to the account.
There's plenty of races worse than this. I hope people are not put off.
All fair points it’s just opinion and I agree theres a lot of races much worse than this! I think I said the course is fast and on potential. They could do with sorting a few bits out but they will get there 100%

@@markd2301 I gave it 8/9 out of 10 the course for pb potential.... in fairness to Simon he gave GNR a 9/10 so maybe he was just having a bad day 😀
@@FordyRuns I don't live in a happy clappy world where you have to say everything is wonderful but you cannot say something is boring and not say why. Go to Cambridge any weekend and it is packed with tourists from both the UK and around the world. Why ? Because it's very interesting, packed full of culture and history which was reflected in the half-marathon course and event.
I make this point because a lot of people put in a lot of effort to such an event to dismiss it in one word without anything to back it up.
I just watched it back to see if I am being harsh, I'm not. And it's not a 'manor house' it's a world famous college we were lucky to run through.

Well done Everyone. Great Video. If you want to try a great course that’s not as flat as Cambridge theres always Sheffield Half the first 10km is all up Hill.

I really enjoyed the bit through the middle. Agree the countryside bit wasn’t the most inspiring, but that said I ran an absolutely huge new PB, taking 10 mins off my previous half marathon time. Also the support on the course was great

Third time running Cambridge this year & certainly felt a lot more congested at the normal pinch points. I dislike the VIP numbers too, being able to start in whatever wave they want - slow runners in the earlier waves creating tripping hazards. I’m having next year off as just didn’t enjoy it as much this year, it’s normally my favourite half.

If you pay on the early bird day it is abit cheaper but the gear after is indeed pony😂 but like you I’m local (Bury St Edmunds) so be rude not to do it. Keep it up bruva!

They told you before the event when the water stops were, They also were preceded by porta loos so you could look out for them. If you needed gels at certain points, carry your own! I did as I knew I wanted them between water spots. The course is perfect to chase a PB, flat and fast. Never heard so much needless moaning, sort 'em out Fordy, give 'em a slap.
Im on it Chris they have been banned from Cambridge best thing is they both ran a pb! I stand by my 8/9 for the course
Great B roll but have to disagree with your reviews. To say it 'could have been anywhere' after you've run through Kings and Jesus College was a bit harsh.

I was ment to run it but had a virus and chest infection. Emailed them and asked for my place to be transferred or refunded! Not a chance and was told I need a doctors letter that would cost £25. What a load of pony is all I'm saying 😡 on the positive Simon slightly liked it so things are looking up 😂😂
