I love the implication, that everytime the foundling is taken by a giant pterodactyl they chase him to the point of using all fuel in their jetpacks and then give up and walk to their hideout on foot empty handed. What a miserable bunch of incompetent warriors.

Back in the Clone Wars cartoon, the radical traditionalist Death Watch was led by a man named Pre Vizla (who's almost certainly related to Paz Vizla from this show), and he allied with and was eventually killed by Maul. This act split Death Watch into two: Maul loyalists who believed he fairly won the right to rule (these Mandos often added horns to their helmets, *exactly* like the Armorer here), and Bo-Katan's group that rejected him because he was an outsider and clearly didn't have Mandalore's best interest in mind. In Disney's canon, Death Watch had another even more radical traditionalist splinter group, the Children of the Watch, who place a *lot* of emphasis on foundlings, i.e. outsiders. Bo's openly critical of the CotW, but her rule of Mandalore getting the planet KILLED pushed her even more extreme, to the point that she's trying to "properly" earn that magic sword via combat. It's worth mentioning that Maul killed Pre Vizla with the dark saber and claimed it as his own, but purely as a symbolic gesture not because of any silly rules. Bo's basically stuck reliving that fateful day, warping her own memory of the event while she's at it.
... which is to say Din Djarin, Bo-Katan, Paz Vizla, and the Armorer should have an absolute shit load to say to each other. But I guess the hackneyed "you saved my boy we're friends!" is good enough.
(Guess I'm not too surprised, though. Ahsoka meeting Luke should have been a huge moment, but BoBF decided to have it happen off-screen. Modern Star Wars is just piss-terrified of character interactions.)

The only reasoning I could think of on why they aren’t exploring this is because it would require the viewer to have knowledge of two different animated series that only children or dedicated fans have seen. Casual fans will just be more confused. They know what Order 66 is. They don’t know what Maul did to Mandalore.
Disney really has messed up in a colossal way. They butchered the sequels and now they’re butchering the series directly post RotJ. What are they doing?
These plots are so boring and full of plot holes. What’s the point in these stories if you’re going to ignore the most crucial aspect of these characters fundamentally not agreeing with each other but wanting to RESTORE their home after its destruction? Are they trying to save this reveal for the very end? Is the Armorer going to reveal that she’s a disciple of Maul and has been trying to rebuild in his honor?

At this point I have become convinced that Filoni didn't actually work on The Clone Wars. From several of his interviews, we know that he ran all the scripts by Lucas. I will headcanon it as Lucas actually writing the scripts and FIloni just putting them on the screen. Because good lord I cannot for the life of me imagine that these two shows were made by the same person.

    • @superjlk_9538
      @superjlk_9538 Рік тому +4

@@DawidKov I think it’s an issue with the translation from an animated to live action medium. They have different criteria for success. A lot of Clone Wars is just random arcs put together in a season. There was never a whole season dedicated to a single plot. So Filoni, who was used to structuring 2-3 episode arcs is now running the show mostly by himself with Favraeu (forgot the spelling I’m sorry) and terrible upper management with the story group and Kennedy, is now dragging out hour long stories into multiple hours of episodes. Thats why you get mini side arcs in the main plot that try to connect together.
And he cannot entirely capitalize on his own animated creations because a lot of people didn’t watch them. So he has to pick and choose what he wants.

Yeah Bo Katan was supposed to be the big villain, but Filoni decided he has a hard-on for her so he does what he usually does; bend the entire universe and lore around his OCs regardless of whether or not he damages the property in the process, if he has to retcon himself or if it makes sense considering the internal narrative logic of the franchise and the characters in question. So Bo Katan now gets to be a girl-boss hero even though her character by nature was designed to be a power-hungry villain who is at fault for all the bad shit that happened to Mandalore, even betraying her own sister. I have no sympathy for her. All these fucking fake Mandalorians need to get their teeth kicked in by the descendants of Jaster Mereel's True Mandalorian Super-Commandos, like Mirta Gev and the rest of Clan Fett.

Maul took Mandalore and he is the only reason that the Republic took any notice of the whole fiasco, and even they didn't do anything until they went to Anakin and Obi-Wan DIRECTLY, and even then it was unclear of whether they could do anything. Anakin divided his own legion just to help out. Bo didn't randomly become a hero or have amazing morals, she just had a common enemy with the jedi and needed support, and knowing that the Republic is a more trustworthy and honourable ally, she went to them instead of the separatists.

Not to mention, she very hypocritically walked back on her “warrior” values in the clone wars when Darth Maul challenged and defeated the reigning leader of death watch (Pre Vizla) in a duel, earning him the loyalty and leadership of death watch. Despite being present and showing no objection to the duel, Bo Katan calls the mandalorians who obeyed Pre Vizla and knelt to Darth Maul “traitors” before promptly causing a second civil war between the death watch group. I think it's more of a happenstance/convenience than a teaching exercise though. (assuming we are talking about birds, or other animals that feed babies in a similar way that "Dragon" does. I'm sure there are examples of predators showing their offspring how to hunt and allowing them the "killing blow" or start eating the prey while it's still alive or something, but intuitively I wouldn't expect birds to be doing that stuff with their useless baby chicks that sit in a nest all day)
Either way, no animal in existence, fiction or not, stores live prey inside of themselves, to only spit it out basically untouched a full ass day later. Even something like the extra calorie burn of having to fly around with a full undigested meal inside of you for a full day would make such evolution unlikely, nvm dozens of other reasons.

  • @darthskarr8975
    @darthskarr8975 Рік тому +135

This is gonna be a long one but there's a lot to say (also hi Rags)
In the EU, neither the Dark Saber or the Helmet-thing were things. There was Mandalore's Mask which originally belonged to *the* Mandalore, which for several centuries was a symbol of rulership over the Mandalorian Clans, before it was lost and they started electing rulers based on battle prowess, leadership skills and merit (funfact; in the EU - Boba Fett became Mandalore for a time after the OT (yes he survived the Sarlacc pit in the EU too, but not unscathed and no Tuskan Raider family or Brain Lizard. He also ended up having a wife, a daughter (which he ended up alienating) and grand-daughter which last I heard he was training to be his successor and carry on his father Jango's Legacy).
The Dark Saber, meanwhile, was originally just a War Trophy that was taken from the Jedi Temple, which was the first thing said about it during the TCW when it first appeared, implying that it was taken by Shay Vizla (or someone with her) when she accompanied Darth Malgus during his assault on the Jedi Temple during the Great War between the Old Republic and Sith Empire, 4000 years before the OT - the only time a Mandalorian(s) took part in attacking the Jedi Temple but not the first time the Mandalorians fought against the Jedi. During that time period, black Lightsabers were actually a rather common trend along with the normal ones - but hey; all that's no longer Canon - Thanks Disney!
Filoni decided to change that in Rebels by replacing Mandalore's Mask with it and saying it belonged to the first Mandalorian Jedi (not even the first Mandalore). Also, since the pacifist Mandalorians were brought up; that in itself was controversial back before Disney Wars was a thing but at least it was explained. Death Watch, meanwhile, were already outcasts because they were fanatical terrorists that spat in the face of Mandalorian Cultures (no, not the cultures in this horrible show - it was very Celtic influenced originally) before the pacifists thing even happened (also they were the ones that killed Jango's family for not helping them against the real Mandalorians which Jango ended up joining after). Also Filoni somehow introduced Noble Families a la GoT on Mandalore in Rebels to replace the Clans, seemingly forgetting he made the entire culture on Mandalore pacifist one show prior - on top of which an Imperial Super Weapon that could magically target Beskar and melt whomever was wearing it and it was made by a Mandalorian prodigy who had no idea the Empire was going to use it against Mandalorians. (Thanks Filoni...)
Speaking of Filoni changes - Beskar wasn't some magic adamantium super alloy in Old Star Wars (neither was Mandalorians having mystic visions or magic water puddles). It was just a very good, rather heavy, combat grade metal Alloy (not mineral - Alloy) that Mandalorians knew how to craft because unlike in Canon, it was traditional that the individual Mandalorian had to assemble his own armor when they come of age and reforge it or replace it if damaged or lost (if they couldn't; they could requisition a "basic b!tch" set). The armor itself was very tough, could likely tank an explosive point blank but then be destroyed as a result. And it couldn't stop Lightsabers. It could tank Lightsabers but not to the extent shown in the show. Metals that could resist Lightsabers were much rare in Old Star Wars and usually came with a catch. Cortosis was the most common anti-Lightsaber metal which could straight up F@ck up a Lightsaber if the blade touched it, but it was very brittle and made poor armor unless added to an Alloy, but then loose the ability to F@ck up a Lightsaber and only resist it.
As for Nevarro being defenseless... Disney constantly, *constantly,* keeps forgetting that planets, *are planets,* and besides multiple cities, they generally have a local government and a local defense force of some kind (heck, a local fleet was more common often in the old days), be it a private military like Naboo or a security detail like Cloud City on Bespin. Regardless of galactic faction affiliations. There's a reason "Farmers Militia" is (or was) a common enough thing in Star Wars that it was often referenced when assessing someone's level or lack of combat experience.
As for the Droid, well, I'll keep it abridged because Droids are a lengthy topic in any Star Wars discussion. This one was an Assassin Model and unless it's a premium model their Sentience/Sapience is very limited to basically being a Terminator, compared to a fully sapient Droid like R2. And if you wanted to, you could give it full Sentience or Sapience if the right upgrades are given or programming restrictions are removed.
And it's not unusual that a damaged Droid is repaired rather than replaced, including one that's just a torso and head (also how the hell is there still a torso and head). But if the body is so damaged as shown in the show, then all you can do is take the memory core and put it in a new body. But if the memory core itself is destroyed and you have no back up, well, tough sh!t your getting a new Droid or your staying Droid-less.

So Mama Dragon climbs up to her nest to find that it's been invaded by several of the Mandalorians, and her immediate response is to regurgitate the Mandalorian she caught yesterday and feed it to her baby as if the intruders aren't even there? Furthermore, the fact that the kid emerged unharmed implies that the dragons can't digest Beskar, or anything contained within Beskar. So how did Mama expect the babies to eat the kid? Why did she make no attempt to break him out of his armor first? It's the same as dropping a rock down a baby's throat that they will never digest.

She could have a full arc of not appreciating Mandalore causing it to fall. Then a period of regret, because she’s responsible for the loss of her culture. Know what would be cool to do all that? Give her a show of her own and scrap this Mando bs! Mando interacting with Boba Fett and Luke Skywalker should've been some of the most impactful points of storytelling. Instead, no one cares.
Why is Bo Katan in this show? Why? She lost the Dark Saber and her tribe. It would be so cool if she was the one who decided to go check out Mandalore and shes was the one who found out that the Empire trolled everyone. She could already be on Mandalore when Dinn Djarin got there. She must now swallow her pride and return to the other Mandalorians and tell them about what she saw. But they don't believe her and she's dismissed for breaking the code or punished and she has to deal with whether she made a mistake. Meanwhile Mando is the one who has broken several rules but still believes in the code even though he's an outlaw also. But he wields the Dark Sabe, but also, he doesn't wanna be king or lead anyone.
There is SO much you could do with all this and yet they choose 1950s black and white story telling. Monster takes kid, tribe must travel across desert on foot to rescue kid, who knows if kid is still alive, we have no fuel, he's my son, rescue kid, go home.

PS: As an artist who carefully uses color in my work, it physically pains me to look at the some of the mandalorian armor with colors and patterns that don't match at all. Thank you for bringing it up, Rags :). It's like they bought halloween costumes of the Mandalorian and used children's paint to make it look different.
EDIT: Someone replied to me respectably and said he used his Jetpack to fly back up to the cage (although I can't tell if he did or not). If the child isn’t digested in +2 days in the bird’s stomach, why did she regurgitate him to feed her babies?

    • @An_Actual_Rat

Regurgitated food from bird parents is actually stored in an organ called the crop, which is situated before the stomach, so the food isn't digested at all. Birds that lack talons or an appropriate beak, store food in the crop purely for transport purposes. Most baby birds are also capable of eating solid food, but may need parental assistance in breaking food down into bite-sized pieces.
Flamingos and Pigeons/Doves are incapable of eating solid food as babies though, but in their case they get fed "milk" secreted from the aforementioned crop of their parent.

The whole thing about Ragnar being Paz Visla's son destroys the characterization of Mandalorians, who are supposed to be all about protecting and providing for kids. They adopt kids, the whole community tithes their earnings to provide for and equip foundlings. The point should be that it doesn't matter WHO the parents of a kid are, Mandalorians will protect him because he's one of their own. It fits with them being dedicated to combat, which would, presumably leave a lot of orphans, so they need this ethos to ensure their kids are protected. That Paz Visla is so dedicated because this is HIS kid, implies he would NOT be dedicated if it was someone else's kid. And what about the anonymous members of the team, who also risked their lives under ridiculous rules of engagement with no emotional investment. You know what would have been a thing they could do? Have someone fall during the climb. He doesn't cry out, his hand goes to his jetpack, like he's going to activate it to save himself, and then he lets go, so as not to endanger the mission, and just crashes, taking one for the team. Bo Katan can react to this, and the other Mandalorians just go "This is the Way." If the writers don't want to kill him, they can always just let him survive the fall because Deus ex Beskar, but they can have someone point out that his survival was not guaranteed, that he got lucky, that he's going to need some time in a bacta tank for all his broken bones, but he just shrugs off the personal cost, because they got the foundling back and no more will be taken. Because that Is The Way.

Didn't the EFAP crew joke years ago that it would turn out to be Jar Jar who saved Grogu from order 66?
Looks like they were partially right.

There is a house near where I live that used to be a pub but was converted into a dwelling a few years ago. I understand this and no longer drink there.

Something to note is that Baby Yeed didn't change a bit since the flashback showed that he's been a toddler for the last 28 years, but if you consider the fact that Yoda was a frail old man at 900 and if you convert that into an equivalent human age (my guess is either 90 or 100) shouldn't that mean that Yeed would be 4 or 5 rather than a toddler?
I guess he's less marketable that way.

These writers need to learn the difference between a Land Speeder and an Air Speeder. You can't just take a vehicle designed to hover above the ground and fly around the sky through Coruscant with it

Bo Katan is even more both cartoon and NPC when you realize that she hasn't changed AT ALL in her entire onscreen life. She was introduced as an adult in somewhere around 21BBY. This is something like 12ABY. By my lore informed calculations, she's somewhere between 60-70 years old (she's one of few important characters without a verified birth year and I clock her at 61 at the very youngest). In that entire span of time, she's still wearing the same outfit, even same headband and hairstyle. It's hard to judge age of a cartoon, but from TCW to Rebels, she doesn't look any older, and here she appears to about 42, because that's what Sachoff is and they didn't alter her facial appearance at all. She is the most unchanging, NPC-like character in the franchise.

When did the Jedi that rescued Baby Yoda have the time to prepare that escape? I thought the entire point of order 66 was that it hit the jedi completely off guard?

Comment showcase on this episode was great. Loved the comment about bo katan being a war criminal. To add to what was already said, bo katan is also responsible for the mandalorian purge and the whole myth of Mandalore being uninhabitable. Bo katan worked with the main cast in the rebels show to revolt against the imperial rule on mandalore. She was given the dark Saber and the show left off with her leading a united army of rebel mandalorians to take back their planet. Time skip to the mandalorian show and the mandalorians were massacred and scattered to the wind. The dark Saber is in the hands of the empire. And all bo katan has is an empty castle and a couple of side goons. So every time she talks about the dark Saber, it's done with the context of her leading her people to genocide with it.

I know the giant bird swooping in to steal children was wild but we can't gloss over just how much tryhard bs was in the duel nonsense. Grogu having the opportunity to fail by doing fxxkall twice and just winning by shooting the other kid 3 times was such a half arsed attempt at tension. Literally embryo's first script.

Gigachad Ragnar- chooses probably the only weapon Grogu can actually use for the contest and only fires one bolt at a time to give Grogu a sporting chance, before proceeding to survive 36 hours inside a dragon's digestive tract with only a helmet
