Remember a few of days ago, when I said the PLAY inaugural was going to be the new standard of quality on my channel? Well, if you didn't see my post yesterday, I ended up having to release that video at the same level of quality that all of my videos have been at for the last couple of years. Despite being uploaded almost a week ago, UA-cam has still not processed the full quality version. Which was a bummer, but... Today's video is fully processed at the new higher quality! Today we're flying from Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport to John F. Kennedy International Airport onboard an American Eagle Embraer ERJ-175. This video was filmed and edited at a higher resolution, with more frames per second, better overall stability, better overall audio quality, and a better overall picture than any of my previous videos. It's also the first upload I've filmed in full 4K with Dolby Vision High Dynamic Range, which means the colors are more pronounced and more true to what you see with your naked eye. This video marks the beginning of a new standard of quality on my channel. I'm always striving to release the best quality, purest aviation content on UA-cam, and this is the next step in making sure I continue to live up to that promise and Skylite Productions counties to be the highest quality aviation channel on UA-cam! I hope you enjoy this video, and as always, there's plenty more on the way! I do still have a lot of footage to post from before I started filming and editing like this, so you'll still see a lot of the standard 4K footage going forward, but eventually, I plan for every upload to be at the quality of today's release! Thanks for your continued support everyone!
I love DCA. It’s definitely one of the prettiest airports in the country, and it’s super convenient. In my younger days, I’d fly in there to visit friends and hop right on the metro. Now that I’m older, I usually get a cab, or have one of my friends pick me up haha.
Thanks my friend. You beat me to pinning my own comment haha. This video is the "new standard" of quality on my channel. I'm always striving to release the best quality, purest aviation content on UA-cam, and this is the next step in making sure I continue to live up to that promise and Skylite Productions counties to be the highest quality aviation channel on UA-cam. This video was filmed and edited at a higher resolution, with more frames per second, better overall stability, better overall audio quality, and a better overall picture than any of my previous videos. Thanks for watching my friend, and thank you for continuing to watch and support the channel!
I'm glad you are enjoying them my friend. I've actually been uploading in 4K for almost 5 years now. It's just recently that I started putting it in the title though.
I feel jetlagged from watching this video. Oh, wait a minute... you stayed in the same time zone! Scratch the jetlag! Anyhow, great view of the Pentagon. Good views of Atlantic Beach coming into JFK. I feel like I'm watching a 4K UHD movie with the upgrades that you made in the quality of your videos.
The main terminal at Reagan is probably my favorite in all of the US in terms of architecture. Just so classic and timeless looking. Amazing quality video sir! You are the absolute best!
I agree. It's a very beautiful airport. One of the best in the country for architecture, hands down. Thanks for watching my friend. I appreciate it, and I'm glad you enjoyed the quality!
Great streaming in 4K. Gosh how DCA has changed over the years. I spent many a day sitting on the bank above the General Aviation Terminal watching the Gulfstream' 1's and 2's, Jetstar's and Learjet's back in the 70's and 80's and not to forget the L188's of Eastern on the LGA Shuttle. Sadly missed. To me it's still known as Washington National Airport. It's hard to picture now where the GA Terminal was. Well done Skylite Productions. Great view of the Pentagon and memories of American Airlines flight 77 - rest in peace.
Thanks my friend. I'm glad you enjoyed this one, and I couldn't help but feel a little sadness as we flew over both the AA77 memorial and Arlington National Cemetery. I've never lived in D.C., but I've got several friends who live there, so I've spent a lot of time in and around there over the years. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the changing of the guard is one of the most powerful things I've ever witnessed. Every time I go to Arlington, I try to stop by. Anyways, thanks for watching my friend!
A lot of people comment exactly that. That they have never flown before, have a fear of flying, or get extremely anxious when flying, and they use my videos to help calm their nerves.
Thanks my friend! Technically it's been 4K for a couple years now, but this is 4K 60fps with other improvements! So, you're right. It's only getting better!
Thanks my friend. I'm glad you're enjoying it. The E175 isn't as quiet as some of the newer aircraft like the 737 Max and A320 Neo, but it is pretty quiet.
As we've discussed before, I'd been shooting in 60fps for awhile now, but I needed to change some other stuff in the way I edited to get it to actually stick! Thanks for watching my friend!
Wow! The video is quite stunning in its clarity, and brings back the memories of Washington, DC trips of long ago! Love the takeoff views of the Pentagon and surroundings! Glad to see this ‘first class’ upgrade.
I was looking forward to this one. I'm ex-USAF and in '81 & '82, I was in stationed at the Pentagon. Instantly recognized the Crystal City highrises behind the airport. The Pentagon, of course, Arlington Nat'l Cemetery and a very brief glimpse of the Iwo Jima memorial and more. Cool stuff here, fella!
Thanks my friend. I'm glad you enjoyed this one. I've never lived in DC, but I have several friends who have lived there for years. I actually spent a couple days visiting them, before taking this flight to JFK to head to Iceland. Anyways, the point is, I've spent a lot of time in DC over the years, and I too always enjoy flying out of DCA and spotting all the landmarks and monuments. Of course, the American Airlines Flight 77 memorial on the side of the Pentagon is also visible in this video, as well as the United States Air Force Memorial. Thanks for watching!
Spectacular flight ✈ 👌, amazing takeoff and landing 👌, 👌 carpeted in white clouds see its beauty spread out in front of You. Stunning views has own my heart, enjoyable trip, thanks.
Oh man, I hate those people that get up as soon as the seatbelt sign is off. Like, where are you going? You're not going to get off the plane any faster than the dude in front of you who's sitting. Great video!
I would tend to agree with you, especially on a flight like this. Now, I can somewhat understand it after a longer flight. Sometimes people just want to stretch their legs after being seated for awhile. They know it's still going to be a bit before they can deplane, but if you've been sitting for a long time, sometimes it's nice to just stretch.
Awesome plane! The E170/175 is one of my all time favorites! What is that weird low-pitched hum that you can hear during boarding? Why did they start the engines at the gate? Anyways, Awesome job!
So the noise you heard and the engine being started at the gate are connected. The APU on this aircraft was out of service. They use the APU to run the air conditioning system while boarding, and also to start the engines after pushback. You can fly without an APU, but you'll have to start the engines before you pushback, using an air cart or start cart. At roughly 3:50 you can hear the pilot explaining what's going on, and the air cart is visible. It's the big blue cart parked next to the plane. The APU is basically a small jet engine, usually located in the tail of the aircraft. It provides the power necessary to keep the aircraft running on the ground, without having to run one of the main engines. As I mentioned above, it's also used to start the engines. Jet engines need a lot of airflow when they're staring to prevent them from getting too hot and having what's called a "hot start." In other words, a startup without enough airflow, where the engine can be damaged. The APU typically provides the airflow needed to do this. When it's out of service, the air cart you see here is hooked to the plane and provides the air to the engine instead. The noise you heard when boarding was the air cart already running. They were using it to force cool air through the cabin to keep the plane cool. Again, the APU would typically be used for this, but you can't use it when it's broken. Hope that helps!
I've been there since the new terminal opened. It's very nice and a huge improvement. Typically LGA would be my go to airport in the New York area. However, I've been using JFK this year as most of my flights were either inaugural flights on JetBlue, or I was flying internationally, so I needed to be at JFK anyways.
No fair! JetBlue got clearance before you did! And he probably was going to JFK as well since that airport is JetBlue's main hub. At the gate on arrival, that is a lot of jet fuel being burned just sitting there, both engines running.Hopefully the APU can get fixed. No interest in catching that Finnair aircraft to Helsinki? Would do wonders for your oneworld mileage! Where were you connecting to? Oh for the days of the Eastern Airlines shuttle from decades ago!
Haha. You might've thought that, and it would've been a great guess, however that JetBlue E190 was actually going to Fort Lauderdale. And I would love to catch that Finnair A350 to Helsinki, but turns out that's super expensive haha. Plus, on this trip I had other northern places to connect too. I was connecting to Icelandair to fly to Keflavik for PLAY's inaugural flight from Keflavik to the US a couple days later.
Well, I'm a regular passenger like everyone else. I don't work for airlines, FAA, or any other job that gets me access to the cockpit during flight. So, that's why you don't see any cockpit footage during flights. As for cockpit shots afterwards that just show the cockpit. I don't typically do that because, again I'm just a regular passenger. And the flight crews are trying to do their jobs to get that plane turned around as fast as possible. Half of the time, when I get to the cockpit, one of the flight crew is gone already anyways, doing the post flight walk around. I don't want to take up the crews time, and interrupt them. They're still doing their job, and I know a lot of crews enjoy showing off the their planes, but some don't. So, that's why.
You're so fast, you beat me to the punch. I've now pinned a comment expelling this but, this video is the "new standard" of quality on my channel. @sla31 how come the low pitched humming didn’t go away until 5:40 when the ground guy pressed the button? I was just curious, and I know I already commented abt it, but I just gotta ask! Edit: what was the high-pitched sound @ 6:25 that sounded like a table saw? Edit 2: How come the humming/table saw sound went away when the ground guy pressed the button again @ 7:37? Edit 3: I need answers!
This was an air start. It's done when the aircrafts auxiliary power unit is out of service. Starting a jet engine requires a lot of air to start, and if they start without airflow going through, it's called a hot start. And that's very bad for the engine and it can even damage the engine. Typically the auxiliary power units is used for force air through the engine as it starts. When it's broken, they have to use a gourd cart like you see here. I don't know exactly what is happening at each of the time stamps you listed, but they are all happening because the cart is being used to push air through the engine. I imagine the one at 6:25 is when the cart is actually starting to push air, and the one at 7:37 is when it was not longer needed anymore. But again, I don't know exactly what is happening at each timestamp to tell you 100% why it's making those noises. All I know is air start carts like you see here are very loud haha.
Hmmm. I may have to look into that. It's definitely filmed in HDR, and I use Final Cut Pro to edit, and I used a project with full HDR enabled. I didn't realize that it should actually say HDR next to each resolution until you said this and I read Google's community document about this. It would appear I rendered the file in the correct format for it to work, so I'm not sure why is isn't showing in the quality list. I may have to do some more research into this. Because right now, from what I'm reading, I appear to have uploaded it correctly for HDR to show in the quality list and it doesn't.
@@sla31 Yeah I double checked the resolution selection panel and there was no HDR label next to any of the resolution options. I had uploaded couple HDR videos taken straight from my phone and UA-cam was able to display it in HDR.
Oh also, this is something you can’t fix and more of an fyi. After the 15.4 iOS update, HDR 60fps videos can only be watched at max resolution of 480p on iPhones and iPads. This is a problem on UA-cam’s side I think, been widely reported on Reddit.
Most of the time, that would be my hand. Of course, that changes based on which side of the plane I'm on, right or left. Unfortunately, they're both limited edition and you can't buy them anywhere haha. On some longer flights, I use this mount: www.rammount.com/part/RAM-B-166-UN10U However, that's still hit or miss. Since I film with iPhones, which have amazing quality but aren't designed as "action" cameras, they're often susceptible to vibrations. If the flight is too rough, the vibrations are transferred into the lens of the camera and the footage gets a "jitter" for lack of a better term. I started this channel with an iPhone 6 and I've pretty much just gone along with the newest upgrade every year. I'm currently using a 1TB iPhone 13 Pro. I also travel with 2 512GB iPhone 12 Pros. 4K 60fps takes up a lot of space. Using the mount with the 12 Pros is pretty much out of the question. They're really susceptible to the vibrations. The 13 Pro though is much better. I always hold the camera by hand for takeoff and landing. But, I've been able to start using that mount during cruise portions of the flight more frequently with the 13 Pro. When I'm not able to use the mount, I keep my hand/arm from reflecting in the window by always wearing black long sleeves and black gloves. My phones are also in matte black cases. This particular flight was all handheld, as it wasn't long enough to warrant getting the mount out.
@@sla31 It is not a joke. Just in case anyone did not know, I am Deaf. I do not know who is who. I wear hearing aids and I can hear a lot of things but spoken language is my constant challenge.
I got you my friend. I thought that might've been some airline joke and I was like, I don't know what the PA says to the person who speaks into it haha. In this case, at which part of the video are you asking about? There are multiple PA's made and I'm not sure which one you're asking about.
Yeah. You never know ahead of time. I picked a seat on the left because it would’ve been really hard light on the other side, and I anticipated a south departure. The winds were from the north though. 🤷🏻♂️

Mr. Smooth Operator at the controls!
Very nice. Loved the Jet Blue butting in line. LOL
We got an ATC hold for spacing, so they got to cut haha.

What do you use to hold your camera?
Ah, cool because I might do something like this within the next month.
Hey Skylite, what did the PA (who speaks into the PA) say?
Is this a joke, or are you wanting to know what was said in this specific video? 😂
@@sla31 The part where the engine still running standstill on the tarmac for the shutdown mode.
it starts at 1:09:00

Aqui tem muitos avião
There are indeed many planes here, both in this video and on my channel.
Great fly! Have you heard the men on the Delta flight was arrested for homophobic slurs and assaulted a Delta flight attendant?
I hand't heard that, it sounds like he deserved it. I haven't been online other than here much today, which is typically where I see things like that.
Too bad you weren't sitting on the right side...
Yeah. You never know ahead of time. I picked a seat on the left because it would’ve been really hard light on the other side, and I anticipated a south departure. The winds were from the north though. 🤷🏻♂️
