- The new Marshall Class5 all-valve, UK made combo was launched by Joe Bonamassa at world famous Jazz club Ronnie Scott's in Soho on Tuesday 28th July 2009. The song in this video is 'Just Got Paid'.
I wish Joe would shred like this more often, this is the best ive seen him play.
Sound guy must be a drummer...
My thoughts exactly
Lol so true
Hahahhaha
Kick ass drummer for sure......
@Voided Charm "“I was never (microphoned); the guys I played with all had Marshall stacks, so I had to hit harder to be heard!” - Bogie Bowles
Wicked!!! Everybody criticizing him wishes they could play like him
Honestly, I love it. It sounds great clean and up louder at overdrive levels. I can't stop playing it.
This amp is great for recording in recording in studios or to practice in your bedroom. It's got a nice clean warm tone. I use it in my recording studio. It's not meant for live concerts like this but I think Joe pulled it off and did a great job.
Yea it gets lost in the mix, if they didnt have it miced you woulnt hear it, I put a Tube Screamer on mine
sounds loud in my music room, but not concert loud
Bonamassa keeps getting better. And better. And better.
I forgot what I came here for! That's right the Marshall Class 5! I got caught up in the music!
The drums sound really good!!!!!
I love the suttle things he does with this song!
yeah - love the Dazed & Confused bit at the 5 minute mark - timeless............
Just picked up a Class 5 today and let me tell you - it's everything I expected - and more...amazing! A baby 'Plexi' if you will....
Back when the Marshall Class 5 came out , i´ve seen Bonamassa for the first time , or Better said i Realize that there is a Blues Player who will be the NEXT Clapton , Named Joe Bonamassa !
He has a DAMM Cool Style , and his Skillz are ABSOLUTE Genius !! Damm Cool Player !!
I got mine two days ago it was built 48th week of 2009 - no rattles!
Great tone from that small 5 watt combo!
Yeah, I'm in the same boat essentially. I had a Blues Junior, then got a 100 watt Vintage Modern. then of course, I had to get this to satisfy my Marshall addiction without shattering my windows haha. It is a great little amp.
its too bad we all ways compare Guitarist. I have seen Joe Bonamassa bring down the house. I never think of guitarist as who's better but what they bring to the table. When i feel like listening to Hendrix, i do. When i feel like listening to Van Halen, i do.
When i feel Like listening to Joe B. I do!
@jammers5 I ALWAYS replace all of the tubes in my amps whether I buy them new or used. That way you know exactly what's in there, and you can pick your own tubes to match the sound you need.
really cool performance , good singer too , oh and i forgot to say that i m now since 30 minutes own one of this REALLY great amps , marshall RULEZ!!
Too bad he didn't have this when I saw him at a local club/restaurant. Had his 100 watter cranked and I was about 15 ft in front of him. Sounded great but man was it loud. He is a phenomenal player :)
Er..just for the people who have read the comments on this page and are confused about this amp, it isn't solid state, it is a five watt valve/tube amp, the only thing solid state is the rectification, like it is with many valve/tube amps. This drummer is LOUD and like I said, the amp is just five watts. Great video, thanks for posting.
@ephixius Yeah, if you try one in person, you find that it doesnt have great note separation...but a lot of people seem to be excited by this amp, so more power to them :)
It's a standard LP Bridge with nylon saddles on the bottom three strings. A Joe B. Signature LP guitar was about $4500.00 new. They only made 300, so I don't know what they go for now.
@speedburnervideo That´s Bogie Bowles of the JB Band! HE rocks and is such a nice dude to chat with! Awesome drummer and killer feel!
Class 5 is a great amp in person..... missed the mark by not putting out the best quality recordings...great amp. That being said. This was 7 years ago.... the viewing of online videos and their commitment to quality recording has come a long way since then.
Badass performance
I actually own a blues junior and a JCM 800 50 watt combo, and I'm seriously considering getting either this or the Haze 15 as an at home amp.
Class5 = mini bluesbreaker...amazing amp
That drummer has his shit on lock. Nice to see that.
Joe is the new Blues Messiah
picked up a used class 5 it absolutely sounds gorgeous with a les paul:-) does have some speaker rattle tho
Since when, he has a long way to gooooo...
The Blues Junior is a much cleaner amp, tends to get noisy/harsh when cranked, but has the added perks of reverb and a master volume. However, the Class 5 is PURE Marshall tone. No gimmicks or compromises, straight ahead Marshall tone. I have both, but if I was to only have one, it would be the Marshall hands down. And it's cheaper!
impressive
this whole thing kicks ass, but at 2:55, blew my mind.
Bogie Bowles was on fire!
I'm gonna buy that marshall class 5
@awesomejohnnet Hmm, let's see, it's a cover of ZZ's Just Got Paid, transitioning into Zep's Dazed and Confused, and you're having a problem with a bit of Eric Johnson sound-alike notes?
i was seriously interested in this amp. joe just sold 4 of them to me jim!
@GuitarBlues3 Thanks
Love that video, but really: Joe could even make my HK Strat sound good, he is da bomb!
What is an "HK" strat ?
@joeblogs34
That 10 second EJ run is spreading throughout his style and over riding his own signature. When he was just a kid learning he would mimics other players to grow, that is natural but now he is an established star its time for him to tap into himself and take the next step up. Once again I am a fan of Joes, I believe he took a wrong turn in his development and hope he dosnt fall into a rut "lick coping" because he really is a great blues player when he is himself.
So How many proffesionnal solid state option are ther for a stage rig these days? about 2?
how can his guitar stay tuned after the trick on 4:11? if i do that my whole guitar is out of tuning!
Hey does anyone know what he's using to get that zeppelin tone when he is doing those harmonics in the middle of the song? Sounds exactly like what Jimmy page did in dazed and confused.
Pretty funny how i bought an Epiphone Valve Junior days before this was announced.
@speedburnervideo Right on man. This session fuckin' rocks!
If you plug it in a 2X12 extension cabinet? yes I think so.
Joe says on his forum that he "did the Brian May thing" and linked 6 of them together.
i don´t hope he is going to swap that gold top for his old with black trim, and i also just got mine and its sounds like it was made for gibson les paul :-)
Everybody wants one now.
This is the stuff that makes even deaf people groove and bang their head! Ya feel that? YOU CAN FEEL IT! That's what it's all about.
What are the "known issues"???
He is an amazing Blues guitarist. It sounds like the 5 watter is having trouble keeping up with the drummer sound, volume wise.
the zeppelin Phrases where SUPERGREAT !!!! bonamassa is a cool cat !
@awesomejohnnet SVR?
Is this an amp demo? Can you guys hear the guitar?
What song is that?
So true he could but I don't think we're talking about a pawn shop amp with the class5.
The audio production sucks. I bet JB's tone in the room is way the fuck better than what we are hearing.
Any amp is gonna sound pretty good when you're playing a '57 Les Paul Gold top first year of the PAF I believe.
That's Bonamassa's signature Les Paul. It's a Gold Top and a black painted neck and body. And it says "Bonamassa" on the truss rod cover...
@almostsk8er01
lets say , they r ok for beginners , but if you want REAL TONE , you need VALVE POWER , i want the jcm 800 lead AFD (slash) top !!!
Okay, these other posts about Vox amps (even though the night train is cool) does not even compare to this amp. If you want metal, get an overdrive or some type of distortion. I tried this today and I have been playing and teaching for 28 years and this amp kicks ass, you need one dry and one wet and you have all that you need. Buy this amp!
That new Class 5 amp won't need to go to the bathroom for a while; 'cause he played the shit out of it!
Oh, man. Is that a back line of SIX of these little guys? I don't care that they're only 5 Watts … That's gonna move a LOT of air. Sounds great.
i hope marshall is fixing the known issues...i just ordered one.
Great style / similar to Alvin Lee A1
JB ROCKS!
Daaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaaaaaam!!! That dude could make a $10 pawn shop peavey amp sound smokin. ZZ to Led Zep and back. Loved it!
its a baby plexi! its soo cute! im gona get one haha
not sure what its called but those are harmonics played to create a flanging effect. its not hard to do. :)
joe could make an old crate sound good
I wish they did a 10 or 15 watt version! maybe in the next few years...
Nop :)
Just Got Paid is a ZZ Top's song :)
is he using 6 of those?
@SixStringHarmonies
Being a fan of Joe I sincerely hope your right.....
Ihope its just a phase and he finds himself again... and continues his own personal mısical evolution towards his own style which was very tasty pure and musical and less like "lick library" stringing copped licks back to back. Truly great blues players create the aura of the song by "living the song" (Joe used to do that) instead of "living the solo". I am not here to rain on his parade, but its obvious....
lacking a ton of bass response, but it's not its fault. 5w isn't gonna have a ton of low end anyways. sounds good!
I agree with the JVM, but the Vintage Modern is the best new Marshall design available IMHO
If he had the Class5 head going through a 4x12, he would probably sound a lot better. That aside, brilliant performance by Joe!
a wall of class 5's, nice. 30 watt pwnage.
Bonamassa sounded much better when he used Marshalls:)
@KyussWhitewater
No, not a pawn shop amp, but it's not a pro quality amp either. It's perfect as a cheap alternative to that classic tone at an attainable price. Garage rock could live off this amp.
For the love of God the man is playing through one mic'ed Class 5. The rest are just there for display.
@jcsk8 Just Got Paid by ZZ Top
sounds like it is recorded by the camera mic ;)
Which song is he singing ???
Just Got Paid
HOLY FUCK that arrangement
@awesomejohnnet Bonamassa's "infatuation" with Eric Johnson's playing has changed the blues. You can not put an artist in a box and say: "Play the minor pentatonic box like some dopey bar blues sap and don't be creative or let your genius come through, we want to hear the same old stuff we've heard a million times...12 bar blues...Now go boy!"
Bonamassa is a virtuoso and his playing will CHANGE what the convention of BLUES MUSIC IS FOREVER.
That's what creative artist's do. Unlike rappers ;)
That fact that he has more than one isn't so important, even should they all work. I think they are just there for show, and you can see that 1 amp is micced up, and that does the trick, let the PA handle the volume :D
@joeblogs34
Agreed,
But keeping in mind that everyone SVR included is copy pasting Jimi, :)
brings a smile to the whole topic.
When the hell did he get so skinny ? Did he quit drugs or booze or start Fast 5k and tofu. Anyways he sounds great.
@flowerdrop1 I 100% agree with that, I went to see him live a few months ago. I must have heard him play the same Eric Johnson lick about 15 times, and that is genuinly no exageration. His live playing is to be honest, pretty damn tame (in comparison to his album versions). His solo's on his actual albums really stand out for me. Which makes his live playing even more dissapointing I think.
:O JOE! You don't look like Andy from Little Britain anymore! Wow... Subway diet? hahahaha
@officialericjames lol! Never let your mixer be a drummer or a bas player xD
i have read that the chassis/cab rattles like crazy and the tubes suck..
Joe rocks my f@#kin' ass off!!!
I'm gonna mod mine, make it a little more like a marshall.
@beeeastmaster
misprint or course... SRV
Doesnt have the big bottom end of his usual tone..but still great!
The quality of the recording, or at least the finished video sound is absolute shit. The playing here deserves a lot better! I am amazed that Marshall does not do a better job when they have this chance of promoting the amp.
@devnullwest
No I am not trying to be a dick, I really like Joes playing and his gentlemanly demeanor, its the note for note exact copys of Eric Johnsons licks that bother me cause Joe is taking the easy way out and should be tapping more of his own inner magic. Eric clapton likes Joe and doe many other greats. I agree its just annoying that he should photocopy Eric Johnson to such an extent.. thats all Im saying..
