This scene definitely shows that Ms. Knight has a sense of humor. We really don't see this kind of thing where a guest star has a part like this anymore.
Gladys was a sitcom star in her own right. She had already appeared in comedic roles alongside legendary funny man Flip Wilson on his variety show and again as his wife on the short lived *Charlie & Company.* (Also starred a young Jaleel White years before becoming *Stefan Ur-Kelle* on another little know sitcom called *The Family Matters,* a spinoff of the hit series *Perfect Strangers.)*
@@UncleDuTheWatchman Charlie and Company. It was a good show. It didn't go off because of ratings. They just decided to pull it. They didn't want Cosy and Flip Wilson on at the same time, with similar shows.
I was 10 years old when I first saw this. And it would be 7 years later that I would be singing background for Gladys Knight in a children’s choir and stand next to her in a recording session
This remind me of that other episode with Billie Dee Williams. She had no idea it was billie she was talking to. She thought it was an imposter. But in this one she has no idea it was Gladys Knight she was talking to. LOL
Florence you got it right. I have not heard another Black woman who can sing with that one-of-a-kind pop soulful perfect pitch voice that can be incorporated in a love song, R&B ballad, show tune, Jazz and Blues, country western, and spirituals while keeping the authentic style of the music.
Just turned 50 & as mixed race child I always wanted a mother I never had one. Every time Gladys would come to Chicago I wanted my father to go to the concert hoping they would meet, get married & Gladys would finally be my mother.
😂 Lol! Awww... It's clipped off right before Florence tips the white worker & also tips to for Gladys too. Without her knowing it. Now that's what l call, being classy & having a good soul. That Florence. 👌

Funny you would ay that but the writers seemed to think so or else Diana's name would never had been mentioned Thank you! two totally different types of singers with different voices one has nothing more than the other. Both are great.
Even Diana Ross? Oh, I certainly hope so. I cracked up considering on Diana Ross had Gladys Knights and the Pips thrown off a tour with them in the 60s with the Supremes.
@RJM ....well ms knight is a true soul singer who voice got better with time ...unlike some singer... But Mr Green go on UA-cam and REALLY listen to how she tells a story with her music
This one. And Billy Dee Williams are one of my favorites.. I remember it was an interview with the remaining cast of the Jeffersons excluding mother Jefferson and Roxanne roker.. Marla Gibbs wasn't the first pick for their housekeeper in auditioning. She appeared and wanted to episodes and by the 4th or 5th episode she landed. What a great series. All the African American sitcoms had their own greatness with their respect, but I think this show for me has to be my all-round favorite! And yes the theme song is ralona from Good times..
Gladys Knight has NEVER hidden her dislike for Diana Ross, and even in this episode (between laughs and laughs) she MADE SURE you knew, she DID NOT like Miss Ross!!! 🤣4:28
Marla Gibbs and Gladys Knight both are KILLING this scene 😂
They are, aren't they?
I like Gladys Knight's reaction when Florence says her favorite singer is Diana Ross.
Adam Dicy yes!
The shade they were giving Diana Ross is crazy.🤣🤣

Gladys is cracking up under that mask!! Florence is hilarious 🤣 😆
Ikr. 😂
Yes she is. Especially after all the hints she gives and Florence still doesn't recognize who she is talking to. Hilarious
Gladys did a good job acting here. So real and natural.
You can tell that she's one classy LADY off screen as well.
Love Gladys Knight
Agreed
It wasn’t hard. This is a black show with blacks relating to each other, like we do. Natural.
She actually had a show in the 80s with Flip Wilson, I think, but it didn't last long. I forget the name of it. I think it was Charlie something...
@@UncleDuTheWatchman Charlie and Company. It was a good show. It didn't go off because of ratings. They just decided to pull it. They didn't want Cosy and Flip Wilson on at the same time, with similar shows.
"keep working on it" ...lol Florence is something else!
I love to hear Gladys sing. She has a beautiful voice.
This is one of my favorite episodes! Funny funny funny and Gladys Knight too!👏👏
That name tho👍
Gladys Knight looked like the masked singer.
Oh My God Gladys Knights Voice is pure silk
Gladys Night is awesome. I saw her in Wilmington NC a few years ago and what a stellar performance!!! Her voice is as wonderful as ever
Gladys can sing a phone book and it would sound good. Met her a couple yrs ago and she was sweet as honey
I was 10 years old when I first saw this. And it would be 7 years later that I would be singing background for Gladys Knight in a children’s choir and stand next to her in a recording session
Gladys is the queen she has an amazing voice. She still hit that high note . anyone seen how gorgeous she was at the Grammys she was fresh and young
My favorite scene from my favorite episode from The Jeffersons. Man, these two could have had a great comedy series together!
This remind me of that other episode with Billie Dee Williams. She had no idea it was billie she was talking to. She thought it was an imposter. But in this one she has no idea it was Gladys Knight she was talking to. LOL
That's Billy, with a y.
Don’t leave me now!
Billy
This show just gets better every year because it was written so much better than what is out now
lol I just saw this episode. Gladys is such a great singer.
Florence always ROCKS!

i remember this, ahhh the good ole days,Florence made that show!!!!!!
Just turned 50 & as mixed race child I always wanted a mother I never had one. Every time Gladys would come to Chicago I wanted my father to go to the concert hoping they would meet, get married & Gladys would finally be my mother.
Funny how Gladys knight is trying hard not to laugh at Florence's comment about keep working on it
I disagree, that she wanted to laugh.
😂 Lol! Awww... It's clipped off right before Florence tips the white worker & also tips to for Gladys too. Without her knowing it. Now that's what l call, being classy & having a good soul. That Florence. 👌
Yo, a lady in the audience is falling out laughing. LOL
Yep
Yes! 😂 Makes it even more funny,Lol!
Ikr..3:20 I keep goin back to it😂😂😂
I could just imagine how the cast were laughing when they tapped this. 😃
lol! "keep working on it. I mean you got potential and all that, but you aint ready for no church choir."
Cringe moment. 😂
...that shady EVIL EYE Gladys SHOT, when Florence said, "Diana Ross", (1:26) ...ha-HAAA!! ...She knew sumpthin' WE don't KNOW!! ...that joke was WAY ahead of it's TIME!! ...ha-HAA!! >got2Breal
Gladys threw that shade when Florence said Diana Ross was her favorite singer.

Yes I remember watching it when I was a little girl. I wish they would of kept it on longer.
HAPPY 74TH BIRTHDAY "EMPRESS OF SOUL" GLADYS KNIGHT (MAY 28, 2018)

Ha ! Ha ! "Keep working on it." - Florence
Florence is a mess ,"that's okay honey they free!" With those sandwiches!😄😄
Amazing, I had not seen this episode, but I laughed so hard.
make yours a happy home, taking that midnight train to the Georgia, the best thing that ever happened to me.
I love this episode.
Great episode lol.
My Queen of Soul.
❤️❤️❤️
Gladys Knight is The Empress of Soul; and Aretha Franklin is The Queen of Soul.
That why she’s on the masked singer show
Lol I think so too. I cant wait to watch it tonight.
This was a well written scene. Marla and Gladys played it effortlessly.
Not ready for church choir.blew me away.
Florence is
Funny as shit😂😂
If Florence only knew who she was talking to.....
Love overboard...
Must be quite a treat for the regulars to get a famous guest especially a favorite. Gladys is an outstanding singer of course.
@myfathersprincess AMEN!!! I ADORE The Supremes but..Mis. Gladys Knight is OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! And yup! Miss Ross ain't got a thing on Miss Gladys!
Diana aint got NOTHIN NOTHIN on Gladys Knigh NOTHIN
myfathersprincess right say that everyday and night 😁😁😁
NOTHING AT ALL
ABSOLUTELY
Diana Ross was jealous of Gladys and Patti. Diana is entertainer not a singer like these ladies.
Funny you would ay that but the writers seemed to think so or else Diana's name would never had been mentioned Thank you! two totally different types of singers with different voices one has nothing more than the other. Both are great.
Keep working on it 😂😂😂
Hush yo mouth.
They woulda just spread peanut butter on my face and sent me on home. - Classic.
😂
Keep working on that singing. I be like hell no!!! LOL!
Even Diana Ross?
Oh, I certainly hope so.
I cracked up considering on Diana Ross had Gladys Knights and the Pips thrown off a tour with them in the 60s with the Supremes.
Florence ti adoro! ❤
One of their best.

🖤
Marla Gibbs had a cold on this episode. You can hear it in her voice ❤
'You keep working on that!!!'
Legendary!!!❤❤❤
Oh, what a wonderful episode. I never saw it in syndication.
Florence will always be straight forward. That's who she is and she's not ashamed about it either. 😅
@RJM ....well ms knight is a true soul singer who voice got better with time ...unlike some singer... But Mr Green go on UA-cam and REALLY listen to how she tells a story with her music
FUNNY!!
Plus, Florence has her best coiffure in this episode.
I watch this on TV

Season 9, Episode 20: The Good Life.
The fact that Gladys doesn’t act along singing is a shame
Diana Ross rotfl!
I would love to see the entire episode....
Lo potete caricare in Italiano x favore? 20/4/2021
Aw, did Florence eventually see Gladys Knight's face?
Yes, she did. LOL
Gladys didn't sound good at all ,singing to the Florence, but she can sing now, I don't like Diana Ross songs that good.
Keep working on it 😂😂😂
😅🤣😂🤣😅
