Hey guys! Sorry for the week-long hiatus -- I've been having WAY too much fun in the D.R. CONGO, country #185!!!

More people in francophone countries are now learning English as a foreign language, but French is already the native language of millions of people in the cities and of the local elite, so it's never going to be replaced by English.

Dude, I am impressed by your presentation of this country, in a way that is beyond words. You spoke of the DRC without once mentioning "civil war"; "tribes"; "sexual violence"; "conflict minerals"; "child labour"; "child soldiers" or my least favourite "Africa". And you did this, by speaking of the eastern DRC specifically, where these phenomena are prevalent. Wow! It's really heartwarming to witness that as someone from another part of the world, you spoke so highly and with so much dignity of this country and its people. Congolese people are people first; and the DRC is a nation above all. Not only are they not defined by the perpetual crises they face, they have an abundance to offer in addition. Thank you for showing this, and being so real!
DRC it's not only civil war, rape and others negatives things that there are in our country. We have the right to watch also a positive aspect of our country.

That is a great country, with great weather, culture, and nature. He was in my home town of Goma. And I was born in Masisi. Before the 20 years wars. Masisi was a natural wonder as far as the nature is concerned. I got to see for yourself to believe. I miss it

it's great. on tv they make it seem much poorer than it is, and make it seem like a country u dont wanna visit. u should visit, if u go to goma try the cheese.
The problem is that Congo can't speak for itself because they speak French..which nobody pays attention to out there..
Am Kenyan with Tanzanian roots but I love Mboka ya Bakoko. Grew up listening to musical greats like Franco, Nyboma, Samba mapangala, Koffi Olomide, Extra Musica, Wenge Musica, Arlus Mabele & so many others. I've got nothing but L💖VE for that Country.
I worked in Zaire 40 years ago building a powerline and facilities from Inga in the west on the Congo River to Kolwezi 1,200 miles away. It was a wild time in my life. Having worked from one end of the project to the other was definitely enlightining. I would love to go back and see what it is now.
I remember the name 'Zaire' taught in our social studies subject in primary classes!

okezie christopher corrupt leaders are not real leaders so they aren’t the Congolese leaders. And it is a beautiful place, filled with many resources and wonderful minerals. One day the mercenaries, and westerns will loose their control, so will the Chinese, so will the neighbouring corrupt leaders and you will have a different say

Great video Drew, love your travels. I'm actually surprised. See, as a historian I read about Congo's recent history which is so tragic. Yet, by showing these videos it also becomes clear Congo can be an amazing place!

Hook up with this guy's guide, then. It might be scenically beautiful, but the Congo is one of the most dangerous places in the world, with rampant violent crime, especially against tourists, and this is known. A white woman travelling alone would be in grave danger there.
