A long time has passed since I made this video, and over the past few years, some major changes have taken place, making it more difficult for the VPD to hand out unnecessary noise violation tickets. The best thing to remember is to always keep your car in 'Comfort' mode when driving throughout the streets of Vancouver. Do not drive in 'Sport' or 'Race' mode, causing the car to pop, bang, or make any additional noise than it has to. Besides that, keep in mind that according to the MVA, any modification made to the exhaust system to make it create more noise is technically against the law. We are no longer raising money to combat these problems and have been extremely happy with the successes we have had over the past few years. Thank you all for watching, and thank you for your support!
Good stuff! Me and my friends are scared of taking our summer vehicles out and get harassed by VPD. And our vehicles are in pristine condition with legal modifications done to them.
Thanks for the video! I just got a ticket for my sporty 6.2 V8 L unmodified véhicule. 106dcbl he said! I will fight that ticket 100% ... nothing has been modified in the car at all. Can you help me with documentation if tou have any?
Quick question, could you drop a link to where it says in the MVA about the 15 meters back? I found the decibel ratings but not distance of measurement. I wholeheartedly agree with this video I just want the evidence to present to the cop if I do get pulled over.
Nice work with these tests, shows the flaw in the regulations for vehicle noise approvals, question is which standard is being used to test new vehicle compliance? If that’s within the guidelines then all others should follow the same practices on testing, but I also think a moving/accelerating car makes more noise at the same RPM than a stationary car, more fuel and volume being pumped through and therefore more noise, which may level out that difference somewhat at 15m vs 50cm, roadside tests can’t be performed unless stationary, so that’s something to also look into. So in the end I’d be looking at whether vehicle compliance testing is accurate and passed, if so then roadside testing is flawed, or manufacturers are somehow finding a testing loophole, a little like emissions testing was circumnavigated with dieselgate. Important though to find all the facts to find the best approach, as it may just make cars quieter in the long run, or it could sort out roadside testing to fall in line. Laws in Australia are 90db I believe at 3KRPM (lower) so all those tested cars would be legal here.
You need to take this thing down to the construction on Robson and record how loud the dump trucks are going up and down the hill on Robson near Broughton / Nicola. It's insane how loud they are. My Apple Watch gave me a warning with how loud they were hard accelerating up the hill.
This is such a stupid law. 83db? I lived in California and they have it at 95bd and we are WAAAAAY lower. My car is 81db on idle (50cm away) but I HATE how I have to rev to 4K rpm, I don’t ever actually rev it that high.... totally bs
I have a court date on Oct 6th regarding unnecessary VI on my 2022 Mustang under 1000 kms only. This is Surrey RCMP officer ticketing everybody who was going to car meet at 192nd. I passed VI same week. He tested my car 1 meter away from muffler tips. He ask me to turn the engine off and then start it. He gave me ticket for Loud noise and VI for no mufflers. I watched your Video, it is very helpful. Thanks for your effort, It takes lots of time and run around to do this. Much appreciated!! any more tips that I can use to fight for my case. Its not about $120. its about harassments that I went through. I want to prove him wrong.
Has your exhaust been modified? If you don't have mufflers or if you've modified your exhaust in any way at all, he can ding you for that. It's BS I know, but just wanted you to be aware. If the car is stock, hire a lawyer and take it into court.
Since the Durango R/T has the tow and go package which includes SRT exhaust I wonder how much DB it makes it's a 5.7 but still is louder than the SRT and maybe the trackhawk
Normally if you measure the car or cars the rules are pretty much the same for eu and us or Canada. You’re not allowed to have objection in close proximity of 3 meters depending on the year and 50meters around the car itself. It’s measured 3 times with dual exhausts, in total 6 measures and the middle reading is your total DB.
NYS and its dumb governor Kathy just made a law where cara cant be over 65 decibels and it blows my mind that my friends fully stock v6 Camry is on the edge of failing that standard
Great vid and you should share this to the Global News. Curious if you can test on other makes such as BMW M cars, AMG, Porsche’s, Lamborghini, Maclaran, etc.
Dang, that would scare the pp out of me, living out west. I'm actually scared of being pulled over and getting caught with no catalytic converter as it is, and never thought about being db checked b4. My car would fail horribly, being 100% strait piped from turbo back, with zero resonator, or mufflers lol. I have actually been debating picking up a new HFCatted DP, just to play it safe. It literally isn't worth the extra couple HP, to get a whatever the hell they call it here in ON no cat fine?
I have a stock unmodified Trackhawk. I will not drive it in Vancouver. This video clearly proves it will fail the incorrect dba testing done by the Vancouver Police Dept. I don't need the inspection orders, fines, points, towing bills, plate seizures, stress, etc... Actually, I have purposely avoided Vancouver since all this nonsense started a couple years ago. I'm sure the VPD sees this as a win, however my spending dollars no longer end up in Vancouver restaurants or businesses. Careful what you wish for Vancouver.....
I was told by a few VPD guys that they can't stand Cain. He apparently walks into the station boasting about how he ruined people's days like it's some kind of accomplishment. Their words.
Cain also likes to use his police officer status when he is off duty to get his way with people. Also heard a rumour from other VPD officers that he is a snitch and has snitched out fellow offers in the past.
Luckily I live in Richmond and cops here r a bit more friendly, but if say ppl with stock M3 or 911 got a VI, can't they just get a lawyer and bring it to court for good? My only guess is the cost for the lawsuit is way more expensive than pay the ticket.... But really wish a well off guy to bite the bullet and bring it to court, since this is really getting outta hand
You nailed it right on the head. Most people just want to pay the ticket, pass the inspection and get back to living their lives. The problem is that doesn't help the issue at all. We need people to challenge the tickets and provide as much evidence as they can to the judge to prove that it was wrongfully given to them in the first place. The more people we have doing this, the more judges will notice the BS that is going on.

VPD’s standard is based on the officers mood. J. Bercic test it literally from the exhaust tip.
unfortunately, nothings gonna change until a class action lawsuit

What you wrote isn't even remotely close to how the laws are written in the motor vehicle act in BC for how they are meant to be tested.

It's officers like him that give a bad name to the entire department. Cain is nothing more than a bully with a badge.
Best thing to do is to get as many dealerships to sign on as a collective to challenge the VPDs unlawful tactics

No, we shut it down earlier this year once we made some positive progress. Some big changes took place behind the scenes over the past couple years.
