I do mine every winter on my 2014 Vintage, looks great when I'm done. No big deal at all and I love the look of real leather. All real leather will fade in the sunshine, I enjoy working on my bike's in the off season.

I have a 2014 Indian Vintage and the original owner treated the leather with the 'free dye kit' from Polaris/Indian, but wasn't too skilled at it. I purchased new medium brown dye from Fiebing's thru Amazon. Your recommendation to treat the leather 1 or 2 tymes annually gives the answer many are asking and why you don't see this leather option any longer. It's a lot of work and many bikers quickly tire of the ordeal. My friend's 2017 Chief was done in black imitation leatherette. So there you go. I'll probably do my leather every couple years because I don't mind the distressed look. And besides, it's kept in a garage out of sunlight most of the tyme. Where ever I travel & stop for a break & folks are close by, they admire the Vintage for the leather & the look of an antique or at least an older bike. .

I really appreciate Polaris making this video!! Someone screwed up on these bags in the beginning but they are now trying to make it right.

Awesome video. Wow! That leather never looked like you'd get it back to original, but you surprised me.

OK so I'm a goof, but when you get to the parts where it is sped up, I keep hearing the theme from Benny Hill in my head!!
    Helpful video, thanks!! :)

Good video, Indian. Upload more and more of these. Never stop. It helps us better understand the super-expensive motorcycles that we bought from you...to support your renaissance. (America loves an underdog, until the underdog gets cocky. Never forget that.)

I enjoy taking care of my leather. my riding boots are 11 years old and look as good as ever. bags are 7 years old, same.
I really like obernauf for leather care and protection, has the side effect (benefit?) of darkening the leather a bit, if you're worried about or have sun fading.
It's understandable some people prefer not to do that sort of thing in todays disposable everything society, especially people who have never known anything else. to each their own, doesn't harm me one bit

Does anyone know if this restoration kid will work for the Indian Scout saddlebags? The color on mine are wearing miserably and I want to know if the dye will match the color of the Scout’s saddlebags.

Water soluble dye? What happens when I ride in the rain? Will the dye run or streak?

Why do the tops of the Bags start to "pucker" and Dimple over time? Wish Indian put some sort of support under the skin to keep the bag top true!

I was going to buy a new Indian Chief Vintage - rethinking that now. My Suzuki's (2) have had zero defects or issues with form, fit, or finish. Same with my BMW.

If you start the video at 14min20sec(final result), you can easily see the difference of leather tincture between the front of the bag and the top and side !!!!....Owner of a three months aged Vintage 2014 bike(and really proud of it!!) but I need to restore AGED leather to like-new condition!!!!!!!.... I m waiting for the kit...and final result....!!!!!

That's awesome there's a care kit. But the dealership and corporate don't sell it no more. What brand pf dye and stuff do I get now since indian don't care about their new customers that left harley for indian. You know harley, the company you're competing against??

I wish this company the very best, but I like riding my bike not rubbing on it. Imitation leather does not fade, won't crack & a little mink oil every two or three months makes it waterproof. 1984 Yamaha Maxim still looks new. 1980 Goldwing seat cover replaced 11 years ago still looks new. 1994 Honda Magna still looks new.

I love riding my 2015 Chieftain, I like polishing it too! It's like a piece of finely tooled jewelry. And that stage 3 Thunderstroke 111 is bad ass!

Leather boots need to be cleaned and polished frequently too or they look like shit too. Enjoy your vinyl.

As long as the new sealer has enough UV blockage it shouldn't be an issue.

...this SUCKS !.....WHY should the owners do this ?....they bought a NEW bike and the damn thing has leather that looks like SHIT in only a few weeks ?.......INDIAN,"step up" or you'll be just another failed attempt !

He says "Um" way too much to be a professional host on a video.
And why did he treat the vinyl panels on the bottoms and inner side panels of the saddlebags (the sides that face the fender)?

  • @electricritual4197

Leather looks cheap. So does the plastic on their bikes.
If you look on the left side of the frame it bolts together. To change the oil on their Scout motorcycle you have to take the horn off to get the oil filter . I'm not saying I would never buy one of their bikes. But I'm going to wait a few years to see what improvements they make.

    • @deweyx0xx
      @deweyx0xx 7 років тому +1

You do not have to take the horn off. Use a strap type filter wrench and its easy to get it between the filter and the horn. Twist it up with your fingers till the slack is out of the strap, put a ratchet on it and turn counter clockwise. Voila. Done.

totes jel. you know the 3x dip on the chrome is really nice and the paint just looks thick, ive been running this thing for 3 years and not one road chip in the paint.
i own a couple mercedes of different years and as new as 17 and as good as their paints are i still see road chips in the front ends, but whatever paints indian uses is good stuff. give it a go youll feel so much better riding one of these, ill likely never go back to HD and a lot feel the same way.

.....this will NOT correct the problem !...this damn leather is JUNK and every piece of it should be replaced,NOT re-dyed !.......all you owners need to be raising HOLY HELL with your dealers !

Point well taken. Indian got rid of the issue of fading brown leather by DISCONTINUING that option. . Plenty of us Vintage owners keeping our bikes & left with this maintenance issue, 'till death do us part'. OH sorry, ........ that's the other life-long commitment. Bikers know what we're in for don't we.
