I like how Aaron Tveit plays Gabe as this spiteful demonic wraith, but Jack Wolfe's interpretation as the sweet pretty "golden child", almost like a fairy or a siren, works incredibly well too!
@@jenpacheco1669It’s not the same interpretation, so comparison just doesn’t work. Aaron burst onto Broadway like a hurricane in this role. This isn’t giving me hurricane. Aaron’s Gabe was the American football quarterback. The superstar. The legend who refuses to let go.
@@IslesYankeeLadyOk, but if this new interpretation has been updated to be closer to present-day (I don't know if that's confirmed but it seems to be so, though the original production was in 2009), then this new interpretation fits the production and the new present. In 2009 I would argue that the "all American football player" son would be part of the archetype of the golden boy. In 2024 this has changed some, so having a quieter presentation fits. Also this is a UK production and therefore is playing to primarily British audiences. While the production still has them set in the US (w/American accents), maybe the football player vibe doesn't translate as well. And this is a studio recording not on stage so that also changes the perception
This is stunning but doesn’t actually do what he does in person justice. When he’s on stage singing this myself and my friends were transfixed. He was all the more dangerous because you felt safe with him and didn’t realise how in danger you were. Flawless
Only recently discover Jack as an artist. He was captivating in the movie The Magic Flute. The few UA-cam videos are a delight to listen to whether he is singing or talking about his craft. This one takes on an entirely different meaning once you know the story behind the song. What makes Jack's version so delightfully chilling is his Pan like demeanor while localizing some really dark lyrics. Incredible talent!
@@juliasings6131 SAME! I kinda fear that *is* what they put all their effort into though :( in a way it doesn't "make sense" to work on and promote both...
OH MY GOSH! If I could I would get a passport and fly straight to the UK for this show. Thank you Jack! You’re proof that celebrities can be wonderful people and amazing on screen or stage. God bless!
his performance on stage was phenomenal! i wish they would have filmed this to stream, so many people didn't get the chance to witness such an amazing piece of theatre
this will be the only thing i'll listen to for the next month!!! also, how do i like a youtube video a million times cause this is just sooooooo good!!!
I only recently came across Next to Normal, and noe apparently there's a UK version coming...or has it already been...either way Jack Wolfe's version of this song is lovely.
Haud oan! You’re cute as f**k. You can act brilliantly. And now you can sing too?! If your boyfriend ever dumps you, look me up 😉 lol. Best of luck to you my friend 😙
he’s not really acting here, in most of his recorded performances he doesn’t do much acting along with the singing, but trust me he performs a lot more when he’s on stage
that's an unfair observation to make. He's clearly singing the song here as a "recording artist", not as a "musical actor", as this is completely out of the context of the show. All of the *personality* is on stage, when the song is performed in its appropriate context. You could say that you don't like the approach chosen for this recording, but you're way off in saying he *doesn't have* personality, feeling, mischief, and charm.

Beautifully said. Wolfe's Gabe could tie you up in honey before you realized you were trapped.
It works incredibly well on the stage, even more convincing than Aaron’s version I think. You could literally feel her love for this sweet little boy.
@@jenpacheco1669 He is flame. He is fire. He is destruction, decay and desire.

my jaw literally dropped when this thumbnail showed up on the homepage
SAME. I'm on the bus and audibly dropped my jaw on the FLOOR!
this is jack wolfe's world and we're all just living in it - what a SUPERSTAR!
This is stunning but doesn’t actually do what he does in person justice. When he’s on stage singing this myself and my friends were transfixed. He was all the more dangerous because you felt safe with him and didn’t realise how in danger you were. Flawless
this cleared my skin, watered my crops, and changed my life in the best way possible
This is literally the best version I have ever heard.
and seeing it live is CRAZY. had a grin on my face the whole time.
Finally I can listen to his voice singing that song on repeat. It’s a wish come true. I can’t wait to hear and see it live in July.
You won't be disappointed...it's just as good or even better live. So glad they recorded these and hopefully the full show

I’m actually in love with this man. If there’s not a cast recording that’s going to happen, I will die.
ISTG IF THE REMASTERED RERELEASE OF THE OBCR REPLACES A WEST END CAST RECORDING, I WILL BE SO UPSET

The smile at 0:57, he's so cute 😭

Well he has a sweet set of lungs, bravo.
His performance is HANDS DOWN the best out of all the productions. The Broadway one doesn't even come close to Jack.
Jack Wolfe you will always be famous
It's mesmerizing how effortlessly he's singing this. Also how does he look so damn good?
Ikr, hard to believe he's turning 29 in just a few months
Oh, so thats what love at first sight feels like😮
I was already on that page when I watched Shadow & Bone. This amazing performance just added on.
now proceeds to watch this for the 22657373 years on repeat

You guys don’t understand seeing this show live has done to me
❤❤❤❤❤❤
i promise the live version west end is even better than this
thank you, youtube account next to normal uk
Jack is awesome but Aaron will forever be my Gabe. They both put different spins on the character and they’re both good.
incredible!! he resembles michael sheen, just me or?
This would slay so hard if they kept the drums in!! It sounds so empty and looses the power without them :/
😮😮😮
Out of context this is giving demon twink energy

What the heck is the deal with this song ??? Just a tad evil
He’s really good, but he doesn’t have the skullduggery needed
He's a good singer but he's devoid of personality. I'm sorry this is not it, he has no feeling, no mischeif, no alluring charm.
