This video is old, but gold. Really well explained. But may I ask if it's possible to "Bake" a geoshell to blend it with the texture? For example: I have a character and I make a geoshel with a tranparency to make a large tattoo... is there a way to join the tattoo (with the right position) directly into the original character texture?
Good day! There are such products that, when applied to a character, copy his material, for example, this is done in custom genitals, when geoshel is added and the material of the body part on which he is wearing is pulled onto a part of the body, how to implement this? All in all. There is some way so that when putting on his body part, the material of the figure on which he is putting on is applied, if the UVs of these parts match?
I hate to ask because you already do so much but is there any chance you can revisit Geometry shells with more current tools and models? The current version of Daz right now is 4.21 and I mostly use Genesis 9 models but when I create a new shell, my experience is vastly different from what yours is here with different or non-existant options and results that are unintuitive. Regardless, appreciate everything you do for the community!
Thank you for your kind words! Geoshells are not any different from when they were introduced. They still come in with 3Delight materials, so you have to convert them. We also now haven an option to disable surfaces we don't want on the shell. I'm setting up a geoshell in my latest video, in which I'm making a tattoo, around 22mins in (haven't make chapter points yet): ua-cam.com/video/XnvweKYSORI/v-deo.html
i want to delete the pupils of my character, but i really don't know how. a person on reddit told me to try geometry shell, could someone help me? i have no idea how to do it, this is the first time i use daz 3d.
Is it possible to use this technique for creating bruises on the skin of a character? and if yes, how can you contain the shell to a specific area (and not the entire body). It would be a great tutorial i think, because apart from bruises you can then do a lot of things with it.
Yes that’s possible, provided you have a material for your character that’s made up of bruises. You can use a transparency map to show only one part of the geoshell. An easier way to get bruises or any other small overlay is to use a Decal, which is like a projection. I have a video about that here: ua-cam.com/video/4fROdn_DMr8/v-deo.html
That is a problem indeed! Technically a Geoshell is just a material applied to a virtual object around the real object. If it completely hides the main object, you may be able to apply the Geoshell material to the main object in Blender. If however the Geoshell material is blended with the main object, you need to duplicate the main object, make it slightly larger, then apply the Geoshell material to the copy. It's difficult to automate this as Geoshells can be implemented in so many different ways, but I'd love to see this process implemented into the DAZ to Blender bridge. Good luck, let me know if you can fix it for your scene.
Loving GeoShells! Thank you Jay for another fun and educational video!

Sadly no. You'll have to combine both textures manually in an external app and apply a single texture.
Excellent video, I came across it by accident, but it's exactly what I was looking for, I wanted to add blood/dirt etc to some characters.
Can't remember where it was but read that 0.0035 is the minimum offset to avoid issues particularly when posing figures

@@WPguru Thank you so much for all you give us!!! I'm watching now and will use CC to watch the german one right after. Appreciate you!

@@WPguru Thanks a lot :) Really helped me there..
Is there any way to bake them? At the moment they don't work with blender and can't have too many in a scene
