Update on Ace - I have gotten him involved in playing some of the games ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU and I can see a difference in his confidence already! My other dog played along and he became intrigued - now its a daily part of our routine - about 3 times a day we do the shell game and the muffin tin game. I am so grateful for coming upon your training techniques!

According to AKC and other reliable sources, cucumbers are perfectly safe for dogs to eat, and they actually love them as crunchy treats. Just be careful not to overfeed, and cut the cucumber into small enough pieces to prevent choking.

Great video! So many people have told me how mean it is to have dogs in small crates. They just need to be able to stand and turn around. What's mean is setting your baby up for failure and they end up in the back yard for her or rehomed.

To get through the night, keep the puppy active for an hour or two, then let him nap in the crate for about an hour before you go to bed. At bedtime, take him out quickly to do his business, and take his crate into the bedroom with you. Most puppies 10-12 weeks old will make it through the night. If he doesn't, he'll make noise to wake you up, and you can take him out.
If you have to go to school, you should arrange to have someone come in every 3 hours or so to let him out until he's older.

Thank you! This is the best tutorial I have seen so far!
    *Edit*
After using this same technique for 5 days in a row our puppy started peeing on the command "quickly". If she doesn't go right away and I know she should I put her in the crate for 5-10 mins and take her back out until she goes. I wasn't sure how she would start going to the door on her own but for the past 3 days she goes and jumps on the door when she has to pee and/or poop. This has been easier than potty training a toddler. Now I don't have to take her out so randomly. I'm letting her do things on her own and so far so good. She's only 7 weeks old now. Thank you again!

We let the young puppies sleep in the crate in our bedroom overnight - they will normally cry or make some kind of fuss when they need to go out. You have to accept the fact that you may be getting up in the middle of the night for the first few weeks.

Try feeding her in the crate to establish positive associations. Also, whenever you put her in the crate, use the word "crate" and give her a treat as she goes in. If puppies are properly acclimated to the crate, they will feel comfortable there, and won't mind going in. If the breeder didn't start the crate training, you'll have a little more work to do, but food should do the trick.

    • @henrylana4610
      @henrylana4610 2 роки тому

Or maybe food should do the ‘treat’ 😜

We have a Miniature Pinscher puppy who will be a year in January. Min pins are known to be very stubborn and don’t want to be told what to do. When he was two months old we had a crate that had a divider for a bedroom and potty pads on the other side so he could go whenever he needed to. We attached a playpen to the crate for his playtime spot. He used the potty pads for awhile, but then started having accidents in the house. I’ve heard about crate training, but was hesitant cause I didn’t like the thought of having my puppy hold his bladder till I let him out. He has been going to obedience classes and our trainer wanted us to start crate training him. So we got rid of the play pen, and potty pads.Got him a smaller crate for his size, 30” wire crate. He’s had a couple accidents in his crate when we first started the process. But he quickly got the hang of it. It took about 2-4 months for him to be fully crate trained. When he needs to go, he just stares at me, and I say “ need to go potty”? And he heads straight to the back door. Process of crate training: have dog in the crate for 2-4 hours. Then let dog out to potty. (Dog needs to potty before playtime) If your puppy is taking too long to potty, go back and put your puppy in the crate for another 20-30 min and then try again. If he/she doesn’t go after 20-30 min, repeat the process. I give my dog about 10 min to potty and give him time to pee and poop. After the dog has pottied, the dog can have 15-30 min of playtime, training, etc. then goes back into crate for another 2-4 hours, then repeat the process. Feeding time is important part of potty training, which maybe why most owners have a hard time potty training or have more accidents. My dog is fed twice a day. Morning around 10 am and dinner around 5-5:30pm. They should always have access to water, but not the entire day. I cut my puppies water off at 6pm. So that way he’s not peeing every couple hours throughout the evening which will cause accidents when he needs to be crated at bedtime. So dog owners, make sure to cut your dog’s food/water off no later than 6pm, or else they’ll just keep drinking which will cause more accidents and your having to take them out more which can be annoying. This is all from my trainer which has been working out very well. Crate training is very Tedious. It takes patience, time, and consistency. No matter how well your dog is trained, they are still going to have accidents if your not watching their cues when they need to potty, or if they have a medical condition (UTI, etc). Once you feel confident that your puppy is fully crate trained, that is when they can have free roam of the house, with supervision.

One of the best videos I have seen. He is gifted in this area.
The only critique I would make is to change the title from house breaking to simply house training.
Breaking is an antiquated term going back to the old concept of breaking the spirit.
Although it is not the trainer's intention, the YT video title may imply to some folks that he is trying to "break" something in the puppy.
Furthermore, given that most any puppy that is being crate trained is being trained for the first time, there is not yet a history or habit to "break."
Other than that, this is a first rate video and a nice change from most of the others on the Tube.
...Another thought is that puppies naturally will want to bite or mouth you, especially as they approach the teething phase. But it is best to always have a chew toy at the ready. This will cut down on biting later.

It was a toe tap, to the Blenheim outside, and the puppy did do a shake off, not the way I would treat my pups, worrying about their faces and mouths/new teeth, I would use a hand signal and simply say Wait, which is taught as early as this by doing recalls (spoon tapping on the bowls, or whistle peep peep peep) and adding a wait hand signal before putting the bowls down.

It was so easy to potty train our tiny runt maltese. Not a toy, not a teacup, not fixed. Lil guy was just the tiny guy of his litter, fully American Kennel Certified, but Small. So, our Bet made the call. We live in a cold state, with lots of snow, and also Lots of birds of prey. Artie was only a pound in weight for his first 2 years. That meant indooor training on puppy litter trays. Those hurt his feet, so in a area in our house not used much, i put down industrial plastic wrap on the carpet, great stuff!, Then stacked 3 big towels next to each other over half the area for pee n pooping. He got it right away. He may be small but he is smart! Lots of good reinforcement, and now he is 5 years old and still under 5 pounds. Our vet is thrilled with his health and physique! He has tons of energy, happy lil guy, and plays with everyone. No problrms. Truly our tiny baby. And potty training him was easier than my kids!

Very good. Especially liked your assigning specific ""WORDS" or "NAMES" to teach various functions. This NAMING, includes Obedience Training too, like Stand, Stop, Stay, Sit, Down etc. A STOP or STAY COMMAND, can save a dog's life as they wont run into a moving car. The 1 reason I too believe ppl take adopted dogs back to a shelter, they don't take the time, have enough PATIENCE or don't CONSISTENTLY, use the same words for bladder & vowel elimination. Dogs want to to know what's expected of them. When ALL FAMILY MEMBERS use the SAME WORDS REPEATEDLY, dogs will understand & learn. They do want please us. Also approve very much of not giving the pup too much room in the crate; ultimately, even after fully grown. Crated dogs should be able to standup straight & turn around, but ballroom dancing sized crates are asking for accidents in the crate. :) if you do another training clip, please explain when they first go into a crate alone, they may cry, whimper or bark maybe 4-5 nights or days. Given enough time & patience, dogs learn to feel SAFE IN THEIR CRATES..just like their ancestors.wolves in their Dens.
For some reason I lost the last part of the audio; could be my device. Thanks for good CRATE TRAINING BASICS. Look forward to more K-9 training.
