Very useful and not to long either which is good because it is all the time you have sometimes
Thanks for sharing this wonderful informational video with us. These tips are much better to get richer darker colors than adding black to the colors as I was told by one teacher. I have found that I am not a fan of adding black to darken any colors.
Black is a terrible option, it will deaden and muddy any colour!
@@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber Yes, as a beginner I found out quite quickly and grew flustered until I found your channel.
I keep wondering if you are going to run out of tips, lol. But you always come up with another great posting. This explains the subject so well. You are a talented teacher!
Thank you! I have a few more yet :-)
Thank you for the tips. I apply a layer of yellow first that makes red applied on top much brighter. To darken colours, I use neutral tint most of the time.
Great tip!
I like darkening my yellows with a bit of magenta. A tiny itty bitty bit. If I don’t want a warm yellow from the magenta I use an even smaller itty bitty dab of dioxazine violet/purple.
Great tips :-)
The chemistry triad view is amazing. Suddenly it makes sense ! Thank you.
You're very welcome!

No problem!
Thank you ❤️
Thank you for all the tips❤️
Thanks for watching ☺️
very good basic art lesson and excellent teaching,Thanks
You are very welcome!
Thank you for this! I tend toward the second two ways and always forget about playing around with complementary color mixing. That would be a fun swatching activity (I tend to do playful swatching when I want to play with color but either don't have a lot of time or am not feeling inspired to paint anything in particular)
Another really useful video Michele. Thanks !
My pleasure!
Great reminder for me. Enjoy nice well presented tips like this. Thanks
My pleasure!
I know all about complementary colours. I use them all the time in my pictures. Mixing them together only makes shades of brown and gray, but are still useful.
Yes they are!
This information was great! Thank you!
You're welcome 🙂
Thx. You are wearing a very beautiful ring, 👍
Thanks it was my mother's :-)

Priceless, thank you
My pleasure!
I've recently started thinking of complementary colours this way and it has been mind-blowing.
All the pieces fall into place :-)
This was an excellent excellent video. I really learned so much thank you!!

You're welcome!
Very useful - thanks Michele!
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent tutorial!
Thank you!
Very useful. So simple and yet important and easy to remember. You have a great talent for communicating. Thanks. ♥️💚💛
Thank you ☺️🙏
Always love your tips, though such a newbie... I still learn. BTW, your ring looks like chalcedony... It's stunning! With love from a California Gramma ❤️
It's actually a Chrysoprase. It belonged to my mother (it originally had a cameo which was broken) I put the green stone in recently so I could wear. It was made by a man who purchased a pedigree puppy from her years ago. He was a jeweller and was so delighted with the doggie he gave her the ring, she gave it to me when I was 18.
What a lovely memory 💖! Thank you for sharing... my mother gave me an opal ring when I was 18! Love ❤️
This was very helpful! Thank you so much!
Glad it was helpful!
This is a brilliant explanation of the effects of the blue going more brown or grey. Thank you.
Most welcome!
All makes sense.
Thanks!
I found this video very useful... i watched it twice....mikelle art mom🎨👩🎨✍
Thank you so much 😀
Well with great respect I’ve been painting for 40 years. Watercolour and oil and acrylic. Trained for 6 years plus experience I’ve taught all ages and abilities. To darken a primary or secondary colour just look at its hot or cool tone or shade. Eg add sepia or Burt umber to warm or hot colours Then Payne’s grey or neutral tint eg blue tone or pinkish tones never black its like coal dense and containing brown and yellow.
Thank you, Michele! VERY helpful. You're a GREAT teacher.
Question: What do you think about using Payne's Gray to darken? When might be a good time to use Paynes Gray...or not?
If you haven't already, could you do a video with a list of "staining colors"...and how we can tell if what we have is a staining color?
Thank you!
I actually have that one planned very soon! Payne's grey is mostly blue pigment so could be used to darken blues 🙂
@@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber Thank you!
Good information. Another method some people seem to like (I haven't been using it myself) is using neutral tint or Payne's grey. I wonder if the reason you don't mention it is the same why I think it's doubtful; those kinds of neutral paints are always multipigment mixes often containing with (lamp) black. I think it could easily ruin the colour intended to be darkened.
Exactly so 🙂
I love your videos. You give so much information in a short amount of time. This was good. You didn't mention adding something like black. Is there a case for that as an option?
You can get away with it to an extent with acrylics, I would never do it with watercolor except for something that's already black like the pupil of an eye 🙂
@@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber Thank you, Michele!
Thumbs up
Cheers 🙏😅
Hi I love learning from you especially since I am a 72 year old oldie.😀. I don’t know where your patron and class schedule is. Can you tell me where and how? Thank you.
I started out card making with the inks and stamps, but I want to do more with paints and backgrounds! Thank you for what you do !

Thanks greatly Michele for your video making it easier to understand what we do with caution in creating darks in our painting, greatly appreciate your inspirational ideas and explaining certain ways of finding the right colour. Thanks again stay safe and healthy
You are very welcome!
It’s all but it just doesn’t have what I want because during art class I keep encountering with yellow but more in dark color because of the shadow , do you have a way for this?
To darken yellow try lilac. It's not entirely satisfactory because yellow isn't really dark. If you see dark then try isolating it with a square cut in white card to see what the colour actually looks like.
@@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber I Will try that thank you!
