A off road legend. It can go almost anywhere without road in Mongolian extreme cold winter. UAZ-469 (same vehicle) pulls Land Cruiser & G-Class from mud! My Stepfather had it. It’s simple, easy to maintain, and easy to fix !!
You Russians are lucky to still have these cars and trucks being built several decades later. All of our new cars here in the US suck, even the imports. Everything here has to be an over complicated smartphone that can practically drive itself. The closest thing that we have here to this car is the Jeep Wrangler, but even that doesn't compare to something like this.
Gotta love these Russian cars. They look purposely built to be easy to work on. Unlike all these new cars from Europe and America that even a dipstick has been replaced with an electronic device.
Love the detail you put in these videos. I think its cool to see the cars and technology fron other countries, and a cheap no-frills 4 wheel drive truck like this would be awesome to have. Thanks for uploading, keep up the good work.
I would love to have a Uaz or Lada in America. I live in West Virginia, where the back roads are little more than drunken goat paths that were paved twenty years before and never touched since. I think a vehicle that would survive in Siberia would thrive in my home state.
This the Hunter, the civilian version of 469. They are made to be more comfortable but are also more prone to get rusty. Especially in cold countries with salty roads
It’s not a suv it’s a real 4 wheel drive, a real 4x4 car designed for tough men. It’s not one of those sissy suv girly cars so popular in western countries.
I absolutely love this concept. A basic, tough 4x4 for those who want actual utility. Plus that awesome classic styling. However, I just wish the things were built a bit better. That plastic creaking would drive me crazy. It is very possible to be both simple and well built.
Unfortunately it was not made to look classic and utilitarian. This car has been in production since 1973 and was originally designed to be a military vehicle. Nothing has significantly changed since then. Maybe the engine has, but I can't say for sure.
I am aware of the cars history. They have attempted to give the car a modern interior, but I don't know if its much of an improvement. They could put in a higher quality dashboard, or less cheap materials.
Just figured out a way to do it, we have a 15 year import restriction in Canada, anything imported has to be at least 15 years old. So buy a 15 year old UAZ, and a new one, transfer the VIN plate from the old one to the new one, bammmm, brand new "15 year old" UAZ Hunter.
They were imported to this hemisphere until fairly recently. A handful made their way to Canada and they are fairly common sights in rural Latin America. With the 25 year rule approaching, you'll be able to import and reg one in legally soon enough.
Thanks MegaRetr for uploading these Russian Cars. There is places where you couldn't see one of those. These cars are fantastic, keep up the good work!
I wish I could have one! I would love to enjoy its strengths and fix its weaknesses. It is a time capsule from multiple eras. So wild to see 1950s build "quality," hear 1970s valve train chatter...while seeing a MAF sensor sitting atop a 1990s style intake manifold, and a nicely wired row of individual coils from the 21st Century. Come to think of it...if you are a mechanic, the UAZ Hunter is deeply symbolic of Modern Russia.
Eastern Doug Demuro. I like it because he can actually keep his mouth shit for over 5 seconds. And because the cars aren't the same everybody else reviews.
cant decide whats cooler: these rugged rudimentary uaz steel monsters or something hightech like a tesla. that they both have 4 wheels is probably the only thing they share, apart from beeing damn cool ;D
My husband wants to get the Uaz Hunter Trophy. He is more interested in the Car for the history it represents hence the interest. We know the car is not the most comfortable car and was designed more for off road. Can this jeep be used for daily commute in Moscow City? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

They have all of the equipment and they can easily update the engine with a more fuel efficient engine etc.... So its crazy why they wouldnt create new versions of old cars.

I believe these trucks have the new Euro 5 engines.. can you tell us more about the engine itself; is it based on another well known existing engine, are parts commonplace etc. The engines from reputation are very solid reliable motors but can you tell us more about it's background and history please? Also tell us how it's so good with low quality fuel grades and low octane. All these factors I believe appeal to buyers who see UAZ as a workhorse with a long shelf life.
