I can only do this with transfer board. You make it look so easy I might need to start practicing more without the board.

Oh don’t worry, you’ll get there! At this point I have over >10 years practice so don’t be too hard on yourself :)
I used to only be able to transfer with the board too, but slowly slowly worked out a way that worked for me.
I do still actually use a transfer board for some vehicles, so it’s all about using the tools at your disposal appropriate to the situation you find yourself in 👍

Hi. I have a 120i 3 door, which I love. Currently there are no 3 door BMWs (or a lot of other brands) on Motability (2021). How much leg room is there in the X1? I’m 6 foot 3 (T12 level). Thank you 😊

Nice motor! 😎 Like you I love 3 doors, way sportier and way easier for transfers!
As you say though, sadly Motability has all but abandoned them which is really frustrating!
I’m 5’8” and find the X1 has plenty excess room so I’d be hopeful that at 6’3” you’d be good: best to pop along to a BMW garage for a try though: they’ll be very helpful and let you have a shot at all their models in the BMW Mini rage I’m sure.

@@LizzyFerretOfficial I don’t think it’s Motability as much as BMW and other brands not producing 3 door models for 1 series. But I’ll take your advice and look at the X1. My local dealership has supplied my 2 cars since injury and are excellent

very few folk transfer and lift their legs by the pant leg. can you share a video of other transfers you do this way or explain why? It'll be of interest to many ( especially those with shoulder issues).

Very few? Based on a sample size of...?
(For reference, If I were to take my sample size of +30 friends and teammates who are also wheelchair users I can think of at least 6 or 7 others who transfer into their cars this way... That’s 1/4 if you count me too).
Which other transfers would you like to see?
Genuinely interested to know why you wouldn’t go legs first by putting your feet off your footplate to get onto a chair/bed/loo, because that’s how it’s almost universally taught.

Can you please send me the width and the depth of your chair please?? That would be very helpfull for me..!!

do the feet always go in first for a transfer

    • @LizzyFerretOfficial
      @LizzyFerretOfficial  3 роки тому

Just depends tbh! Some people do it this way, some people put their feet on the ground first and use them as a pivot.
In fact I do that for some vehicles but for this one I find feet first easier.
All about finding what works best for you in each situation 👍
