Howdy!!! New subscriber from the Sandy/Boring/Eagle Creek area. My wife & I did nearly the exact same thing that y'all are doing 27 yrs. ago. Bought 2+acres, and are STILL working on the house and property. The blackberries will be tenacious, as you probably already know. Getting the property squared away where you will be able to mow most of it (it does take some time mowing about 2 acres......) will go a long ways towards helping keep the berries at bay. One of THE BEST THINGS that occurred for us was when a wonderful young couple with an excavating business moved onto the 2+ acres adjacent to us. He came over and cleared more brush and berries in 40 minutes or so than I did in 20 yrs.. That portion of the property is more somewhat like a park, with scattererd spaced out trees, mostly fir and cedars, and the ferns my wife loves. But I've been able to get my John Deere GT 275 in to mow it, keeping the berries and brush in check. Either buy yourself a little track hoe, or paying someone to do the dirty deed for you will pay off in a huge way.
I want you know that I really like your channel. After retiring as a machinst at Boeing, I got into a hobby of building solid body electric guitars. Several of your videos have helped me out, and I'm grateful to you for that!

Hey! Just saw this comment too! Glad you’ve found the channel helpful and I appreciate the advice! We have a few neighbors with more powerful equipment as well so we may still trade favors with them to help up uproot some of the nastier things on the property. We also bought an old Kubot L2900 with a PTO mower so hopefully we can keep things under control through spring and summer. We’ll see though 😂 we’d love for our property to look just like what you described. We known it’ll just take a few years 😂

Congrats, but unless you use napalm on those blackberries, they will all be back in two weeks. I'm of course exaggerating (a little). I once had to clear blackberries from a much smaller lot and spent a whole summer cutting them back and digging out by the roots in WA state. Best to you in your blackberry battles.
