It was 178mph at the peak and 99mpg according to his wacked out display cluster. You'd have to be sailing off a cliff to get those for even a moment but it's quite funny to think about.

SAME HERE, In my 2001 LS1 TRIPLE BLACK VETTE I Got up to about 155 and WIMPED OUT,LOL. Plus there was Cars ahead and i didnt want to risk hurting anyone,when i was speeding there was absolutely NOBODY On the FREEWAY At 12 midnight on Highway 295 between exits 112 and 114

its actually not gm's fault atol for the tach. I later found that someone had spliced into the signal wire leading out of the ecu and when remove it worked perfectly.

I had a stock 1993 lt1 -6spd. that I bought new back then , had it too 168-169mph a few times . If I had the room to safely keep going it would have topped 170mph. The 1992 did 172.2 in a magazine shootout so I guess the 93 would do about the same.
BUT it too a lot longer than your Z06 to get there .
The '93 would not stop from those speeds -so it was VERY DANGEROUS , it felt like the pads were welding up to the rotors and shook the car so hard you wouldn't believe it -destroyed the pads rotors first time I did it. ZR-1 brake upgrade = easy fix.
Nice cars the old Z06's pondering getting one and doing a complete build w/turbo etc..

I know this was posted 7 years ago....but still......mo in tents.....ha!!!!! That is great! BTW....my Prius often goes to 199 mpg when i let off the accelerator. Averages 60 MPG all the time. I have a 2007 Zo6 and it is the car I most love....but the Prius is the one I drive most....mostly to get parts for the Zo! Always upgrading and changing.....

believe it or not but the c5 zo6 when it has is lights down is actually more aerodynamic then the c6 so it handles top speed runs very well

Z06 wasn’t designed for top speed runs; it was designed so you could slap numbers on the doors and road race it.
It’s a FAR superior car to a base Corvette in every way but absolute top speed.

The hatch body is also a lil more stream line. The frc causes more drag with down force on the trunk.
