There’s something about this vlog that’s just wholesome. We never normally get to see the affection between Zoe and yourself, just watching you both giggling and just sat with one another talking about life and reflecting on Ottie’s first year is so heart warming. Coming from someone who works in early Years and am in my 3rd year of my degree, I can say that although, like you say, Ottie won't 'remember' specifics from her early years, they still matter! The first 2 years of life are THE most important for brain development- everything you do with her, say to her; everything she sees, hears, feels, will all shape her brain, and ultimately create her personality and temperament. So never think moments are wasted because she won't remember them- every single second counts for her- and you are giving her such an incredible start in life x

Re Ottie not directly remembering this first year, don’t forget that not only will she be building that feeling of being totally safe and loved, she will also hear you tell her about the moments of when she was a baby, and that’s such a precious thing for a parent to be able to share. I know that I have always found so much comfort and felt so much love hearing my parents talk about what I was like as a little one. It shows them you paid attention! 😄 So don’t forget to look forward to telling Ottie as she continues to grow about all the things you did when she was just a dot. One thing I will say is that you have it right about birthday cards, its such an amazing way to pour your heart out and say everything you need to say about reflecting on your first year as Ottie’s parent. I’m 21 and my dad recently passed away very suddenly and my mom always sorted cards out so they are all written from her with both their names signed at the bottom but to have a card from him, signed by him in his writing talking about me would be so incredibly precious to me right now.
When Zoe said “Alfie…. Look at us all” I died every time it was so serious as it something bad happened 🤣🤣🤣

My daughter has just graduated uni... like I went to her graduation and it feels like 5 mins since she was having her first birthday. It goes so fast, so just enjoy and appreciate all of it.
my daughter is about to turn 1 too… it is a weird thing because you do feel sadness that you’ll never get the time back again but i just think about that special emotional feeling you get when you go through an old family photo album or a memory box or family videos, i’m so excited to experience that with my children in years to come 🥺

My children are now 8 and 4. My youngest is about to start Primary School next week and my oldest has passed the half way mark through Primary School. Cherish every moment! It goes by far too quickly
My son just turned 11 and I still remember the feeling of being pregnant with him. Sometimes I still have to wrap my head around that he came from me. They don't stay babies long it goes by quickly. Happy Birthday ottilie
Maybe it’s different for you, but for me in the US I only ever see birthday candles at dedicated party stores or in the baking aisle of the grocery store. But you’re right, stationery stores should sell them too!

I was 22 when I found 3 letters that my mom wrote me. 1 before I was born, one when I was 1 and the last letter when I was 2. I was going through an old chest with baby items that she kept for me and I cherish those letters more than anything in life. It seems silly because she can’t read her card now but in 20 years she’ll love it 🤍
Zoe and I announced our pregnancies around the same time and it's crazy to think that we are already at the 1 year mark of our daughters births. Happy Birthday to your beautiful Ottie! Sending lots of love and happiness your way 🤍
This was so bittersweet for me to watch. I love seeing how happy you and Zoe are with your sweet little Ottilie but my ex partner cheated on me a few months after having our daughter 18 months ago so through my healing I feel I’m living through you a little!
I can’t imagine how hard that must’ve been. God has a bigger and better plan for you, and your daughter will be your silver lining through it all. No one deserves to learn such a painful lesson, but you will fall in love again and your family will be complete. It’s okay to grief the life and future you wanted and didn’t end up getting. Even though it may feel a little redundant to write a card to Ottie for her first birthday, trust me, it is so so special to read when you’re older. I still have a card from my parents that they wrote to me when I turned 5. I’m 21 this year, and I still go back and read it from time to time :)

Mine are 9, 7 and 3 and I'm constantly thinking how fast they're growing and changing and feeling that parent guilt that I've not done enough, but I'm working on changing that sort of mindset.
