Now I feel like if you take a break from destiny for long enough you just need a cutscene of Zavala being like “welcome back guardian, let’s get you up to speed” and just a quick summary. Job done
No, since a quick summary depends on how long you haven't played. For new players or returning veterans the "quick summary" needs to be multiple hours long to explain new concepts, lore and story. For people taking small breaks or year-long breaks, it would be half an hour to an hour of just cutscenes. People complain about having to watch yt to understand things but expect Bungie to summarise 8 FUCKING YEARS of story, lore and things like "paracausal" or "throne world" in a reasonable way. Do they understand that this is an impossible thing to do without making it a multiple hour video or (in gameplay terms) a quest that has HUNDREDS/THOUSANDS of steps to complete. Honestly a joke.
@@coolking4715 you wouldn’t need to explain the entire story, just the big stuff. Red war, cayde dying, savathun, the black fleet, that sort of thing. If they want to learn the whole story themselves they can, but bungie can at least explain the big things to new players.
@@coolking4715 It really doesn’t. As someone else said, the basic hard plot points are all that is needed. Seasons barely have much actual important story besides the beginning and end. We don’t need “we learned all this exposition”, just a simple “this person arrived to do this and we beat them”. A quick 10 second summary per seasonal story to get people caught up. And even then, only where those seasons or expansions are now unavailable

Then you have to explain why he is coming for the light, why do beings want it dead, what power does it give them, why is IT so special. Now do that for every race and every story, it starts piling up VERY fast to the point where you have: Humanity, hive, awoken, cabal, eliksni (and fallen, difference has to be explained), vex, darkness, light, fallen houses, the reef, taken, worm gods, witness, pyramid ships, traveler... Now put all of these things into major events that have to be explained for story purposes and now everything gets jumbled up, since the story of Destiny only recently got connected and normal. You get the jist, there is so much to explain here that unless you want to always ask the question: ("Why?", "Who?", "Where?", "What?"), you have to understand most of it. Even byf's longest videos don't explain all of it, which should tell you just how much there is to explain. This is an impossible task

Not even. Destiny is incredible now and one of the best live service games to be a part of. The main problem with Destiny right now is to become a part of it in the first place. They add and remove so much content you miss out on a lot of stuff or just get confused with all the new stuff. IHE said it best. The game boils down to "You just had to be there".

I had nearly every title, all weapons, countless GM runs, solo flawless dungeons, master raid titles like fare breaker, absurd money spent. I worked 8 hours a day and played destiny for 10. It wasn't a matter of doing what I wanted. I had to just let it go.
true. I think as a new light (started S14, never played D1) it was manageable bc A: I have friends who played it way before me, and B: I played warframe for 5+ years, I knew what I was getting myself into LOL
honestly the most fun I've had in D2 is when you play with friends, the solo experience is a good way to just kind of chill but its nowhere near as good a time
As a new player that tried this game 2 weeks ago for the first time, this video is 900% accurate, I've never been so lost in a videogame before EDIT: that doesn't mean the game is not fun, I will try to learn more.
Best and only thing you can do is try make friends in game or lfg the community for the most part will help you out the new player experience sucks right now and we all know it lol
Dude honestly, this shit hit home. I plaued the original destiny and all the dlcs, played destiny 2 at the start and just didnt have time to get into it, i was so late to the party and this shit is SPOT ON.
As a hard-core veteran player, trust me, you arent alone in the slightest. Everyone is veerrryy well aware how awful the new/returning player experience is 💀 hopefully Bungie is working on it internally. Im glad you were still able to enjoy your time!!
I really want to get back in it now that my daughter is bigger (2 years) but just thinking of opening the game and being inundated by 10 quests that I left undone and paying as much as 200 Euros for the updates, puts me off..

I have to agree. I tried coming back to Destiny 2 a month ago, but I was just so confused as to what was going on (hadn't played since shortly after the launch of Shadowkeep) & what I was supposed to do. I ended up noping out of the game more quickly than I had any game since the last time I tried World of Warcraft. Whatever, I'm very happy just playing Final Fantasy XIV instead (and COD for my PvP fix)
You perfectly explain the new light and returning player experience. It truly is a deep hole bungie has dug. I still don't know how I got my girlfriend into gaming with destiny being her first fps game. I think the only way I was able to do that was recommending she play destiny 1 first and she became captivated and interested in the world. Unfortunately she missed playing the original 3 campaigns
Yeah the destiny experience back when they made it free was really good for someone who hadn't experienced destiny , although one of my thoughts was this would be so much better if the story was better cause the heart was definetly there and destiny has a way of making you feel small like no other game or media can make you feel and I adore that
same for my partner, she played destiny 1 and was Interested enough in the world but soon after with destiny 2...since she missed all the og content it's hard for her and myself who stopped after warmind to get back into it, so much has changed and it genuinely feels very uninviting now...which is a massive shame as there is so much lore and Interest that feels missed out
I have a love/hate relationship with this game. The core gameplay is so fun but there so many little things that add up so fast. I started playing a few months ago for the first time. The new player experience is so bad unless you have someone to guide you through like I did.
every now and then i start missing d2 but it’s way too difficult to get back into it to the point where i haven’t consistently played it in years. it sucks cuz it would be perfect for my friend group but ik most of them would lose interest fast especially cuz the content locked behind paywalls.
Champ mods, mods in general, the transmog system, seasonal pass, bright dust, artifice armor, strikes, raids, dungeons, daily lost sectors, nightfall, gambit, trials. Titles and triumphs and weapon crafting and patterns. So much isn’t explained and it’s just assumed you know it all. Ghost mods for better stat armor.. as I keep typing more stuff keeps coming to mind. It’s too much for a new player or returning player
I started playing yesterday for the first time and I lost about an hour trying to finish the last mission of the first area. I ran all over the place, literally because I didn’t have my personal hover craft yet, trying to figure it out. Eventually I googled it and it was a glitch, I needed to do some goofy steps to get it to activate. I really want to like this game, but it’s just so exhausting. Feels like work, when I just want to have fun and decompress.
Yeah, the game is fun and it looks great, but the new user experience is just... well... not there. I think even the devs were scratching their heads when someone proposed a complex tutorial system. Where do you even start with that? Me and my pal we just jumped in the game not knowing anything. We derped around and it took us way too long to even reach the Last City. We kinda just went on different planets after that and did the local campaigns and events, got a few weapon drops and just had fun shooting things until we ran out of the f2p content. We did not fuck about with various currencies, builds, min-maxing gear, looking at spreadsheets or reading wiki. We just approached the game like a Borderlands title. Then we got bored of doing the same planets and dungeons and we just stopped after about 1 month. If i didnt play it with my pal i probably wouldn't even bother learning all the mechanics and just stop playing on day one.
I just picked it back up last weekend . I just stuck with shadowkeep-nightfall and once I was done I was already 9-10 levels over the soft cap. I also noticed how redone the bounty’s were. As far as I know only the gunsmith has bounties you can complete for powerful gear and you just have to play the playlist activities a certain amount of times for the rest. I haven’t gotten into that yet though so I’ll have a better opinion of it when I actually get into it
Current day Destiny 2 is what Destiny 3 would’ve looked like. Everything has been updated and polished. Sure it’s not beginner friendly and can be hard to casually play, but it’s really hitting the spot especially with friends. Glad to see people are getting back into it
Honestly the new user experience is so bad i cant get my friends into to save my life. But i think destiny right now is pretty casual-friendly. I think the end game experience will always be a debate, but in my experience with seasons, the more you grind the more mundane it gets.
@@calebclarke69 honestly end game grind isn’t that bad. I got 4 red borders in 1 kings fall raid and it was my first raid. Getting red borders takes time yes but having friends to play with is where the most players draw the line

You know what I like ... the fact that, Angry Joe, complained about ALL the written lore, in what was it Halo 3? & how it sucked.. to have to read that much. I love to see how big this channel has gotten, ive always gotten into these small channels that disappear after their first hit video, and seeing this channel grow through the years and see all the recognition hes received is amazing.
The thing I find fascinating about Destiny is that despite all of the widespread flak it’s gotten throughout the years, the fans are some of the most dedicated out of any fanbase I’ve seen. My cousin has sunk over a thousand hours in Destiny 2 alone and counting

For me it's that while the game has no small amount of issues, the things it DOES have going for it are things very few other games have too. Nothing compares to joining a crackhead LFG raid run and having a blast. Literally and figuratively.
D1 I was over 3000 D2 I’ve crushed my D1 time. I don’t think it’s because we really enjoy the game as much as we just slightly enjoy it but have a massive FOMO when it comes to loot
The game really just needs a good intro for new players. Kinda like the red war campaign, how it would introduce everyone to what’s happening and how to play.
I hear everyone saying something like this. Why doesn’t Bungie do it, then? I don’t get it. I played the Halloween/Fall seasonal event and only understood about 1/2 of wtf I was doing. And it’s a lot like when I play Warframe and a random player (PvE) just one hits everything while I pick up scraps, despite me feeling like I’m playing well most of the time. No a lot of fun. Buuut it’s still the best feeling shooter with the best music ever, so there’s that.

I am glad to see you coming back to Destiny 2 again. As a solo player who has played this game since Forsaken, it almost feels like D2 has evolved into an entirely different game. Even though to this day the game still has some rough edges such as the new light experience, I personally think that the game has gotten better, and thankfully we are getting some QOL updates with the next expansion coming, such as loadouts and in-game LFG. I've been wanting to help new players get through some of the endgame content and this will definetely help me out a lot.

I'm still pissed. I think during Shadow Keep I spent a LOT of time perfecting my armor. I maxed out all of them but my cloak. Come next major update all my armor is usuless and doesn't work anymore.
This is 100% correct. The game, at its core, is amazing. The gunplay is extremely satisfying, the art direction is stunning, music is beautiful, it has a very rewarding gameplay loop, awesome and plentiful gear to make your character look however you want, and TONS of content to lose yourself in, but for a new player, I can imagine how incredibly confusing everything can be. Godroll weapons, stat distribution, build crafting etc. It's all either poorly explained by the game, or not at all. That's where the game probably loses most new players, especially with all the year one content being vaulted. Like you get this New Light quest and once you get through it, you just get thrown into the deep. No way of knowing which order the expansions are in, no deep explanation into core mechanics, just you against the world. This concept has been proven to be very popular. Look at FromSoft games. It's just that Destiny is NOT that type of game. Or well it is, but it has no right being it. There should be tutorials, clear indicators of where to start, recommended gear and pre-made loadouts+an in-game method of crafting your own loadout (which I know is finally coming with Lightfall). Like how the fuck is a new player supposed to know where to grind for materials such as enhancement prisms, ascendant shards etc? Or hell, even exotic gear? Seriously, how hard is it to add a tutorial that tells you "hey, enhancement prisms? You can grind those with Nightfalls. The higher the difficulty, the hugher the chance." Or "hey, want to grind out your exotic armor? Play legend lost sectors solo." The game should be full of things like that to point a new player in the right direction, but it isn't. You either find the game fun enough to look up all these things on your own, or you drop it, never to pick it up again. In this regard, Bungie REALLY needs to give the game a MASSIVE overhaul

Downloaded it on game pass a month ago, while later bought a couple DLC’s and could not find any info on the store page or online about how to start the campaign or access the items or do anything related to it. Couldn’t get a refund or figure out how to play what I paid for so I just gave up, it’s too eclectic for a first time player
Well it all has the feel of trying to push away new players. Friends tried to get me into it and explain the mechanics but it's still unreasonably confusing. The tutorial is beyond a joke of obsolescence. Truly they cater to their current players and whales who will buy literally anything they put out. But for their players who have been there since the beginning there is no incentive to create tutorials for anything since they already know everything.

man I left for 3 years and came back season 16 had no ideal why only the void class was 3.0 🤣🤣🤣 it's still a bunch of mechanics that I'm learning. I just found out about wells and warminds and I've been playing again for 6 months now
Same I hadn't played since season2 and played one game a week before lightfall and logged back in and was in the first mission of it no idea what I was doing. Is there a video to watch that makes it easy to understand step by step what to do?
The new light experience has always been pretty jarring but once you get past that and have friends to play it with Destiny really picks up. Destiny is truly at its peak during Dungeons and Raids. Once you’ve made a build and have good rolls on weapons the game comes together like nothing else quite can.
For the longest time, all I did was strikes as everything else was too jarring.. Eventually, gradually, I started to open up to more parts of the game. Fast forward now i'm doing Grandmaster Nightfalls and Master Raids! Just a matter of time.
@The Rotten💯 don’t be afraid to solo content. Trust that each one has its own rhythm and once you get it down it becomes easier to solo harder content. Try soloing dungeons:)
@The Rotten💯 All dungeons can be done solo, they even put rewards in there for doing them solo and flawless for those that do it. And tbh, most of the best weapons aren't even locked behind the raids, a lot of really good ones can be found in dungeons or main game activities.
Fun fact about the pop-ups: to my knowledge, they only appear for returning players and whenever they are first introduced. The amount of pop-ups you experienced is only because you returned to the game after A LOT of changes took place.
It’s honestly so hard to start destiny 2 that most just give up. And doing it on your own is damn near impossible for most people. When my friend was getting me into it I tried to explain that to him and he just didn’t get it lol

The new player experience is rough. So rough that when Xur abducted new players and dropped them into Dares of Eternity, veteran players would drop their own levels just to hop in and rescue them. Eyes up Guardian, the New Lights need rescuing and we can’t rely on Bungie for help.
I've been playing destiny since day 1 and have loved it ever since. I feel lucky the game gripped me enough to keep me playing regularly, because I highly doubt I'd put in the effort of catching up if I ever fell behind. New users and returning users are really put in a tough spot trying to play the game.
Damn right. I would never play this because it would be too frustrating because of that. If i have to read 50 wiki pages before the fun begins i rather play something else.
tbh I stopped once my equipment got sunset (as a solo player) it was especially frustrating as they removed the Callus raid, which was the only get raid equipment I could get lol, so once my equipment died, I just stopped playing, then 2 years later I come back and I just had no idea what to do for 3 days so I just quit. I’m a returning player after two years and I feel lucky to have my friend onboard me. It’s been overwhelming as all hell to get back into but luckily the homie is there to answer my thousand plus questions 😅 It’s been about a month and I’ve been hooked harder than I ever have

This is actually great timing. The next large Expansion, Lightfall, is coming in February and the one of the main features is a better, more detailed new player experience. Bungie also said they are no longer going to vault content
Remember when Eververse was pitched to be the way Bungie funded development on things like dungeons, and we could all play content like that thanks to a few whales buying cosmetics? Now dungeons are $10 a pop in Eververse? Not particularly relevant I know but it's a sore spot for me. Also fuck Lightfall is stupid expensive. I want Activision back.

@@munchnerkindl7480 dollars to doughnuts I spend $100/year on Destiny for approximately 1,000 hours of entertainment every single year. That’s $0.10 per every hour of entertainment. That is well worth it in my opinion. I’d also rather front load the cost than pay a monthly sub on an MMO.
Recently redownloaded destiny 2, for the first time in about 4-3 years. Haven't played any of the dlcs up until now , but I can honestly say this shit is actually really fun (and extremely addictive) when you get the hang of it
Yeah mate, you got it. Destiny is still a fun pew pew game and it is VERY well optimised and good looking. Sure the new user experience is shit, but me and my pal we didnt care about stories and gear and min-maxing stuff, we just visited the planets, did the campaigns, did some dungeons and had fun. We completely skipped over the seasonal events because they were much too convoluted. If you just wanna pew pew stuff for a few hours, its a great game for that. We just never had the time of the patience to learn about all the gimmiks, coins, convoluted game modes and events.
@@mancamiatipoola its not well optimized. if it was damage multiplier wouldnt be tied to frame rate. so for example playing at 30fps enemies hit you for less than when playing at 60fps. but ye the games optimized. if you want an extensive list of how shit destinys engine problems are just ask. its well documented online also so a google search is all thats required.
I just started playing this franchise about 3 weeks ago. I've had more fun playing it in those 3 weeks than I have in Halo the last 10 years. Destiny 2 is a fantastic game. But yes, the new user experience is horrible. Had I not had both of my brothers, who are experienced Destiny players, to walk me through everything, I would have been absolutely lost. The game does a terrible job of telling you what you need to do, where you need to go, what is/isn't important, why things are happening, what things are for, etc.
The Red War Campaign removal was truly a bad idea. As someone who only dipped his toes into the original Destiny before playing this one, the Red War campaign was great for getting me invested and explaining how things were done.
Yeah, as a experienced player, it sucks new players are going to confused with the story, and that sucks because the writers have been knocking it out of the park with these past few seasons, the story finally got good and intriguing. But that’s why we have lore daddy Byf to guide us.

It's so cool your getting back into Destiny. It's one of the few universes I can't seem to walk away from. TBH, it's the little things like exotic weapon missions, subclass overhauls and seasonal stories that keep pushing things forward when other activities get stale. Hope you enjoy your time!
My friends and I got back into Destiny about a month ago, and it has definitely been a good time. The raids and dungeons are the type of content I crave. Challenging skills as an fps player as well as teamwork and mental focus. Good stuff.
@@VallornDeathblade When Scourge came out I was too new to destiny to properly try it. 2021 onwards I haven't stopped playing and that includes many raids, but of course, Scourge is gone :(
As someone who hasn’t played Destiny 2 since Shadowkeep, I’m finding I’ve really started to enjoy the game again. Playing with friends definitely makes the game, and I was just as lost as you were when I came back, Act Man. Honestly, it’s nice to play and have a lot to play with still even as a f2p person at the moment. Glad to hear you gave it a second chance.
Heads up guardians! For people who enjoy the 3 man Raid-like activities those are called dungeons and there is 5 of them of which the one called Prophecy is free and can be found in the legacy directory on the map.

@The Rotten💯 Imagine doing one of the hardest activities in the game and being rewarded the same way as someone doing a public event, it wouldn’t make sense and nobody would be doing it. Also not all raid weapons are must have best in slot, hek one of the best dps weapons rn is a linear fusion you literally get for free. The fact is you can do most content with what ever guns you want as long as you enjoy them.
This game has put me through crying moments and much depression. Endless pain and suffering and ripping my eyes out my head in the crucible. I have almost burned down my house bcs of lord of the wolves... I love this game

Never thought I’d say this, but the reason i have stuck with Destiny 2 the most, is actually how amazing the story has gotten since the beyond light expansion.

Been playing ever since Destiny 1. Glad to hear you’re gonna come back to visit sometime in the future. The new expansion Lightfall is shaping up to be huge, and will even give us a new subclass with abilities never seen before. Love your videos, man! Also, if Zavala comes back, a certain empress of an alien species we’ve allied with might be a good co-star for him.
One of the best things about playing Destiny 2 is when a friend either returns or finally starts, because they have so much shit to do that I can help with, and I can explain and answer any questions they have in however much detail as they want, but the moment they try to play alone they get frustrated because the new/returning player experience is so fucked they NEED help from someone. One friend had a blast with that experience because the more distracting and confusing the game is, the less he's in the real world. Another friend handled it very well because he actually likes looking up videos about stuff. My brother-in-law wanted to start, and considering he had no idea how to even buy the game because purchasing the DLC for it was/probably still is so fucking convoluted he gave up, so the game even with my help would've probably been the most miserable experience of his life. Overall I DO highly recommend Destiny 2, if you're unsure when to play, now is good if you have a friend who's already playing, otherwise, you might want to wait until 'The Final Shape' DLC releases, Bungie has said there'll be some changes to make the new player experience better, and what they've already shown seems to confirm that, but, while I doubt it'll be 'Great', I think it'll be 'Good'.
What you went through is exactly what I went through a month ago. Came back after stopping around Curse of Osiris. I was confused as heck with 60+ quests, new mechanics, and missing a third of locations. But after spending a couple of weeks, I feel like I am at a good place that I feel comfortable. I'm just chipping away at all the quests right now and getting my light level up (1590 gang now). I like it. I feel that Destiny is at a good place where there is something for everyone. And I agree, this is a game best played with friends. I have none that play this, but I have been joining fireteams with mic on and I have a blast being with randos and have made a few Destiny pals now.

Somehow I always knew that you were a Titan main lmao I'm glad you're having fun with the game. If you love the art direction, the raids have some of the best locales and music in the game. Garden of Salvation, Last Wish, and *especially* Deep Stone Crypt are beautiful
Buggies would prolly never do that because 1: how would they make it a rewarding activity to do constantly and 2: they’d have to get each redlined and unique ship model in the game to function in it.
my exact issues too. It's really hard to jump in after a long break, especially if you really enjoyed the story and lore it feels bad to miss out. But the game is really fun when you get to mess around with friends or figure out the raids together. And once you get past the initial return hump, you got a decent hold on what to do.
Every single game on the planet is fun if you get the mess around with it with friends even if it's the worst game on the planet. It shows that Bungie are extremely lazy game developers if they don't even put a f****** codex system into the game. Mass Effect 1 had a codex there's no excuse for this game locking one
Destiny 2 is so awesome right now, and I’m glad you’re playing it again! The story is really ramping up into something awesome. You do need like an expert at the game to teach you what’s up, and if you just do the campaign for Witch Queen and Beyond Light you’ll get plenty powerful. D2 is such a big game you get to a point where you make your own goals in the game.
I have been pleased with destiny lately and I hope lightfall continues that. It’s nice to see more people getting into it and enjoying it. Yes destiny is it’s flaws, many of them, but overall I’d say they had a pretty solid comeback

I was a dedicated destiny 1 player and played destiny 2 until I think it was beyond light. However I tried to jump back in recently and I was honestly overwhelmed by everything and not in the good way. I just noped outta there haha. Your video basically encapsulates my reaction.
Just a tip for you: if you go to the terminal near the eververse trader there is a origins section that shows the timeline order! I just returned after not playing since year one and I found that a very helpful tool!
Our whole group came back with The Witch Queen and we actually played A LOT. We've fallen off a bit during the summer period but we still play every now and then when time let's us. When I catched up with The Witch Queen it was so much fun and addicting to play again with friends.
I find Act Man so relatable. Here we have a game which we had high hopes for from the beginning. While it has badly monetized us as players, it has some bit of nostalgia. Even after so much changes, parts of the game's DNA are still memorable.

I just started playing D2 last month; never played D1. It is one of the only games my husband and I are able to enjoy playing together. It's a ton of fun, but I totally understand where a lot of the confusion can come from. Especially since I missed a lot of the story. But I really am enjoying it and can't get enough! Also, that warsat in the cosmodrome strike has gotten me more than once, totally felt that :D :D :D

Now I feel like if you take a break from destiny for long enough you just need a cutscene of Zavala being like “welcome back guardian, let’s get you up to speed” and just a quick summary. Job done
No, since a quick summary depends on how long you haven't played.
For new players or returning veterans the "quick summary" needs to be multiple hours long to explain new concepts, lore and story.
For people taking small breaks or year-long breaks, it would be half an hour to an hour of just cutscenes.
People complain about having to watch yt to understand things but expect Bungie to summarise 8 FUCKING YEARS of story, lore and things like "paracausal" or "throne world" in a reasonable way.
Do they understand that this is an impossible thing to do without making it a multiple hour video or (in gameplay terms) a quest that has HUNDREDS/THOUSANDS of steps to complete.

@@coolking4715 It really doesn’t. As someone else said, the basic hard plot points are all that is needed. Seasons barely have much actual important story besides the beginning and end. We don’t need “we learned all this exposition”, just a simple “this person arrived to do this and we beat them”. A quick 10 second summary per seasonal story to get people caught up. And even then, only where those seasons or expansions are now unavailable

Example, so they see an alien. "Gary the cabal turtle", wouldn't your first thought be, "what is a cabal". Then you have to explain why he is coming for the light, why do beings want it dead, what power does it give them, why is IT so special.
Now do that for every race and every story, it starts piling up VERY fast to the point where you have:
Humanity, hive, awoken, cabal, eliksni (and fallen, difference has to be explained), vex, darkness, light, fallen houses, the reef, taken, worm gods, witness, pyramid ships, traveler...
Now put all of these things into major events that have to be explained for story purposes and now everything gets jumbled up, since the story of Destiny only recently got connected and normal.
You get the jist, there is so much to explain here that unless you want to always ask the question: ("Why?", "Who?", "Where?", "What?"), you have to understand most of it.
Even byf's longest videos don't explain all of it, which should tell you just how much there is to explain.

Not even. Destiny is incredible now and one of the best live service games to be a part of. The main problem with Destiny right now is to become a part of it in the first place. They add and remove so much content you miss out on a lot of stuff or just get confused with all the new stuff. IHE said it best. The game boils down to "You just had to be there".

I had nearly every title, all weapons, countless GM runs, solo flawless dungeons, master raid titles like fare breaker, absurd money spent. I worked 8 hours a day and played destiny for 10. It wasn't a matter of doing what I wanted. I had to just let it go.

I tried coming back to Destiny 2 a month ago, but I was just so confused as to what was going on (hadn't played since shortly after the launch of Shadowkeep) & what I was supposed to do. I ended up noping out of the game more quickly than I had any game since the last time I tried World of Warcraft.

You perfectly explain the new light and returning player experience. It truly is a deep hole bungie has dug. I still don't know how I got my girlfriend into gaming with destiny being her first fps game. I think the only way I was able to do that was recommending she play destiny 1 first and she became captivated and interested in the world. Unfortunately she missed playing the original 3 campaigns
Yeah the destiny experience back when they made it free was really good for someone who hadn't experienced destiny , although one of my thoughts was this would be so much better if the story was better cause the heart was definetly there and destiny has a way of making you feel small like no other game or media can make you feel and I adore that

I have a love/hate relationship with this game. The core gameplay is so fun but there so many little things that add up so fast. I started playing a few months ago for the first time. The new player experience is so bad unless you have someone to guide you through like I did.
every now and then i start missing d2 but it’s way too difficult to get back into it to the point where i haven’t consistently played it in years. it sucks cuz it would be perfect for my friend group but ik most of them would lose interest fast especially cuz the content locked behind paywalls.
Champ mods, mods in general, the transmog system, seasonal pass, bright dust, artifice armor, strikes, raids, dungeons, daily lost sectors, nightfall, gambit, trials. Titles and triumphs and weapon crafting and patterns. So much isn’t explained and it’s just assumed you know it all. Ghost mods for better stat armor.. as I keep typing more stuff keeps coming to mind. It’s too much for a new player or returning player
I started playing yesterday for the first time and I lost about an hour trying to finish the last mission of the first area. I ran all over the place, literally because I didn’t have my personal hover craft yet, trying to figure it out. Eventually I googled it and it was a glitch, I needed to do some goofy steps to get it to activate. I really want to like this game, but it’s just so exhausting. Feels like work, when I just want to have fun and decompress.
Yeah, the game is fun and it looks great, but the new user experience is just... well... not there. I think even the devs were scratching their heads when someone proposed a complex tutorial system. Where do you even start with that?
Me and my pal we just jumped in the game not knowing anything. We derped around and it took us way too long to even reach the Last City. We kinda just went on different planets after that and did the local campaigns and events, got a few weapon drops and just had fun shooting things until we ran out of the f2p content. We did not fuck about with various currencies, builds, min-maxing gear, looking at spreadsheets or reading wiki. We just approached the game like a Borderlands title. Then we got bored of doing the same planets and dungeons and we just stopped after about 1 month.
If i didnt play it with my pal i probably wouldn't even bother learning all the mechanics and just stop playing on day one.
I just picked it back up last weekend . I just stuck with shadowkeep-nightfall and once I was done I was already 9-10 levels over the soft cap. I also noticed how redone the bounty’s were. As far as I know only the gunsmith has bounties you can complete for powerful gear and you just have to play the playlist activities a certain amount of times for the rest. I haven’t gotten into that yet though so I’ll have a better opinion of it when I actually get into it
Current day Destiny 2 is what Destiny 3 would’ve looked like. Everything has been updated and polished. Sure it’s not beginner friendly and can be hard to casually play, but it’s really hitting the spot especially with friends. Glad to see people are getting back into it
Honestly the new user experience is so bad i cant get my friends into to save my life. But i think destiny right now is pretty casual-friendly. I think the end game experience will always be a debate, but in my experience with seasons, the more you grind the more mundane it gets.

The thing I find fascinating about Destiny is that despite all of the widespread flak it’s gotten throughout the years, the fans are some of the most dedicated out of any fanbase I’ve seen. My cousin has sunk over a thousand hours in Destiny 2 alone and counting

@@icarusfluffybottom899 yea, i recently just hit 5k hours and i've been playing since day 1 of F2P shadowkeep. not a long timer per se but still, 3-4 years is still pretty good.
For me it's that while the game has no small amount of issues, the things it DOES have going for it are things very few other games have too. Nothing compares to joining a crackhead LFG raid run and having a blast. Literally and figuratively.
D1 I was over 3000 D2 I’ve crushed my D1 time.
I don’t think it’s because we really enjoy the game as much as we just slightly enjoy it but have a massive FOMO when it comes to loot
The game really just needs a good intro for new players. Kinda like the red war campaign, how it would introduce everyone to what’s happening and how to play.

I hear everyone saying something like this. Why doesn’t Bungie do it, then? I don’t get it. I played the Halloween/Fall seasonal event and only understood about 1/2 of wtf I was doing.
And it’s a lot like when I play Warframe and a random player (PvE) just one hits everything while I pick up scraps, despite me feeling like I’m playing well most of the time. No a lot of fun. Buuut it’s still the best feeling shooter with the best music ever, so there’s that.

I am glad to see you coming back to Destiny 2 again. As a solo player who has played this game since Forsaken, it almost feels like D2 has evolved into an entirely different game. Even though to this day the game still has some rough edges such as the new light experience, I personally think that the game has gotten better, and thankfully we are getting some QOL updates with the next expansion coming, such as loadouts and in-game LFG. I've been wanting to help new players get through some of the endgame content and this will definetely help me out a lot.

I'm still pissed. I think during Shadow Keep I spent a LOT of time perfecting my armor. I maxed out all of them but my cloak. Come next major update all my armor is usuless and doesn't work anymore.

This is 100% correct. The game, at its core, is amazing. The gunplay is extremely satisfying, the art direction is stunning, music is beautiful, it has a very rewarding gameplay loop, awesome and plentiful gear to make your character look however you want, and TONS of content to lose yourself in, but for a new player, I can imagine how incredibly confusing everything can be. Godroll weapons, stat distribution, build crafting etc. It's all either poorly explained by the game, or not at all. That's where the game probably loses most new players, especially with all the year one content being vaulted. Like you get this New Light quest and once you get through it, you just get thrown into the deep. No way of knowing which order the expansions are in, no deep explanation into core mechanics, just you against the world. This concept has been proven to be very popular. Look at FromSoft games. It's just that Destiny is NOT that type of game. Or well it is, but it has no right being it. There should be tutorials, clear indicators of where to start, recommended gear and pre-made loadouts+an in-game method of crafting your own loadout (which I know is finally coming with Lightfall). Like how the fuck is a new player supposed to know where to grind for materials such as enhancement prisms, ascendant shards etc? Or hell, even exotic gear? Seriously, how hard is it to add a tutorial that tells you "hey, enhancement prisms? You can grind those with Nightfalls. The higher the difficulty, the hugher the chance." Or "hey, want to grind out your exotic armor? Play legend lost sectors solo." The game should be full of things like that to point a new player in the right direction, but it isn't. You either find the game fun enough to look up all these things on your own, or you drop it, never to pick it up again. In this regard, Bungie REALLY needs to give the game a MASSIVE overhaul

Downloaded it on game pass a month ago, while later bought a couple DLC’s and could not find any info on the store page or online about how to start the campaign or access the items or do anything related to it. Couldn’t get a refund or figure out how to play what I paid for so I just gave up, it’s too eclectic for a first time player
Honestly, Bungie should just concentrate their effort on Destiny 3. The 2 had it's run, there's no point in mending an obsolete project.

Well it all has the feel of trying to push away new players. Friends tried to get me into it and explain the mechanics but it's still unreasonably confusing. The tutorial is beyond a joke of obsolescence. Truly they cater to their current players and whales who will buy literally anything they put out. But for their players who have been there since the beginning there is no incentive to create tutorials for anything since they already know everything.

The new light experience has always been pretty jarring but once you get past that and have friends to play it with Destiny really picks up. Destiny is truly at its peak during Dungeons and Raids. Once you’ve made a build and have good rolls on weapons the game comes together like nothing else quite can.
For the longest time, all I did was strikes as everything else was too jarring.. Eventually, gradually, I started to open up to more parts of the game. Fast forward now i'm doing Grandmaster Nightfalls and Master Raids! Just a matter of time.

And tbh, most of the best weapons aren't even locked behind the raids, a lot of really good ones can be found in dungeons or main game activities.

Fun fact about the pop-ups: to my knowledge, they only appear for returning players and whenever they are first introduced.
The amount of pop-ups you experienced is only because you returned to the game after A LOT of changes took place.

I used to play Destiny with a few friends a couple years ago and it was really enjoyable. I still have a lot of nostalgia from both Destiny 1 and 2.
The Equals Three transition at 3:02 made me feel something I haven’t felt in years.
I've been playing destiny since day 1 and have loved it ever since. I feel lucky the game gripped me enough to keep me playing regularly, because I highly doubt I'd put in the effort of catching up if I ever fell behind. New users and returning users are really put in a tough spot trying to play the game.

tbh I stopped once my equipment got sunset (as a solo player) it was especially frustrating as they removed the Callus raid, which was the only get raid equipment I could get lol, so once my equipment died, I just stopped playing, then 2 years later I come back and I just had no idea what to do for 3 days so I just quit. Recently redownloaded destiny 2, for the first time in about 4-3 years. Haven't played any of the dlcs up until now , but I can honestly say this shit is actually really fun (and extremely addictive) when you get the hang of it
Yeah mate, you got it. Destiny is still a fun pew pew game and it is VERY well optimised and good looking. Sure the new user experience is shit, but me and my pal we didnt care about stories and gear and min-maxing stuff, we just visited the planets, did the campaigns, did some dungeons and had fun. We completely skipped over the seasonal events because they were much too convoluted. If you just wanna pew pew stuff for a few hours, its a great game for that. We just never had the time of the patience to learn about all the gimmiks, coins, convoluted game modes and events.
@@mancamiatipoola its not well optimized. if it was damage multiplier wouldnt be tied to frame rate. so for example playing at 30fps enemies hit you for less than when playing at 60fps. but ye the games optimized. if you want an extensive list of how shit destinys engine problems are just ask. its well documented online also so a google search is all thats required.
I just started playing this franchise about 3 weeks ago. I've had more fun playing it in those 3 weeks than I have in Halo the last 10 years. Destiny 2 is a fantastic game. But yes, the new user experience is horrible. Had I not had both of my brothers, who are experienced Destiny players, to walk me through everything, I would have been absolutely lost. The game does a terrible job of telling you what you need to do, where you need to go, what is/isn't important, why things are happening, what things are for, etc.
The Red War Campaign removal was truly a bad idea. As someone who only dipped his toes into the original Destiny before playing this one, the Red War campaign was great for getting me invested and explaining how things were done.
Yeah, as a experienced player, it sucks new players are going to confused with the story, and that sucks because the writers have been knocking it out of the park with these past few seasons, the story finally got good and intriguing. But that’s why we have lore daddy Byf to guide us.

It's so cool your getting back into Destiny. It's one of the few universes I can't seem to walk away from. TBH, it's the little things like exotic weapon missions, subclass overhauls and seasonal stories that keep pushing things forward when other activities get stale. Hope you enjoy your time!

My friends and I got back into Destiny about a month ago, and it has definitely been a good time. The raids and dungeons are the type of content I crave. Challenging skills as an fps player as well as teamwork and mental focus. Good stuff.
Wait until the new raid drops with the next expansion. There's really nothing like the day 1 raid experience anywhere.

As someone who hasn’t played Destiny 2 since Shadowkeep, I’m finding I’ve really started to enjoy the game again. Playing with friends definitely makes the game, and I was just as lost as you were when I came back, Act Man. Honestly, it’s nice to play and have a lot to play with still even as a f2p person at the moment. Glad to hear you gave it a second chance.
Heads up guardians! For people who enjoy the 3 man Raid-like activities those are called dungeons and there is 5 of them of which the one called Prophecy is free and can be found in the legacy directory on the map.
Wasn’t there something called “vault of glass” in destiny 1 where you could have 7 players? Its been years since I even touched destiny 1 or 2.

@The Rotten💯 Imagine doing one of the hardest activities in the game and being rewarded the same way as someone doing a public event, it wouldn’t make sense and nobody would be doing it. Also not all raid weapons are must have best in slot, hek one of the best dps weapons rn is a linear fusion you literally get for free. The fact is you can do most content with what ever guns you want as long as you enjoy them.

Never thought I’d say this, but the reason i have stuck with Destiny 2 the most, is actually how amazing the story has gotten since the beyond light expansion.
I'm the D2 player that skips almost every dialog. So story for me is not so important. I'm glad that someone enjoys it

One of the best things about playing Destiny 2 is when a friend either returns or finally starts, because they have so much shit to do that I can help with, and I can explain and answer any questions they have in however much detail as they want, but the moment they try to play alone they get frustrated because the new/returning player experience is so fucked they NEED help from someone.
One friend had a blast with that experience because the more distracting and confusing the game is, the less he's in the real world.
Another friend handled it very well because he actually likes looking up videos about stuff.
My brother-in-law wanted to start, and considering he had no idea how to even buy the game because purchasing the DLC for it was/probably still is so fucking convoluted he gave up, so the game even with my help would've probably been the most miserable experience of his life.
Overall I DO highly recommend Destiny 2, if you're unsure when to play, now is good if you have a friend who's already playing, otherwise, you might want to wait until 'The Final Shape' DLC releases, Bungie has said there'll be some changes to make the new player experience better, and what they've already shown seems to confirm that, but, while I doubt it'll be 'Great', I think it'll be 'Good'.
I have the same feelings about the art from Cyberpunk. No matter how much that game or Destiny stumbles I can never deny how cool everything looks
What you went through is exactly what I went through a month ago. Came back after stopping around Curse of Osiris. I was confused as heck with 60+ quests, new mechanics, and missing a third of locations. But after spending a couple of weeks, I feel like I am at a good place that I feel comfortable. I'm just chipping away at all the quests right now and getting my light level up (1590 gang now). I like it. I feel that Destiny is at a good place where there is something for everyone.
And I agree, this is a game best played with friends. I have none that play this, but I have been joining fireteams with mic on and I have a blast being with randos and have made a few Destiny pals now.

But the game is really fun when you get to mess around with friends or figure out the raids together. And once you get past the initial return hump, you got a decent hold on what to do.

Destiny 2 is so awesome right now, and I’m glad you’re playing it again! The story is really ramping up into something awesome.
You do need like an expert at the game to teach you what’s up, and if you just do the campaign for Witch Queen and Beyond Light you’ll get plenty powerful. D2 is such a big game you get to a point where you make your own goals in the game.

I have been pleased with destiny lately and I hope lightfall continues that. It’s nice to see more people getting into it and enjoying it. Yes destiny is it’s flaws, many of them, but overall I’d say they had a pretty solid comeback

Thank god for act man, seriously borderline my favorite gaming UA-cam channel now a days, it’s the consistency in uploading and quality that’s won me over tbh, lots of great channels make this style of content but for some reason it seems super common to only post once (if that) a month, I get the work they put in, I’m just saying act man has the perfect balance between video essays and comedy gaming videos of the past like avgn. I was a dedicated destiny 1 player and played destiny 2 until I think it was beyond light. However I tried to jump back in recently and I was honestly overwhelmed by everything and not in the good way. I just noped outta there haha. Your video basically encapsulates my reaction.
Just a tip for you: if you go to the terminal near the eververse trader there is a origins section that shows the timeline order! I just returned after not playing since year one and I found that a very helpful tool!

Our whole group came back with The Witch Queen and we actually played A LOT. We've fallen off a bit during the summer period but we still play every now and then when time let's us. When I catched up with The Witch Queen it was so much fun and addicting to play again with friends.

I find Act Man so relatable. Here we have a game which we had high hopes for from the beginning. While it has badly monetized us as players, it has some bit of nostalgia. Even after so much changes, parts of the game's DNA are still memorable.
Honestly i don’t play destiny2 anymore. I quit when they decided to remove planets. I’ve never played any game that does this.

Not only did I lose game content, free players like me were barred from good equipments too T.T

I just started playing D2 last month; never played D1. It is one of the only games my husband and I are able to enjoy playing together. It's a ton of fun, but I totally understand where a lot of the confusion can come from. Especially since I missed a lot of the story. But I really am enjoying it and can't get enough! Also, that warsat in the cosmodrome strike has gotten me more than once, totally felt that :D :D :D
Raids are the PEAK of gaming. Getting a fun fire team together is just heaven.
Raids are definitely the best part of D1 and D2 but if you don’t have a steady team to raid with, LFG can be a mixed bag.
@@GabrielIgnacio Fully agree, Garden of Salvation has been forever ruined for me due to repeated 4-6h long marathons where half the team gets replaced and the other half either trolls or are just plain stupid to understand the raid mechanics (the same people that ask what "KWTD" means in LFG....)

Raids are usually a mixed bag. You can have utter train wrecks of bad teammates or get hillarious and epic memories.
@@icydragon308 Vow is even better for weird callouts due to the sheer number of symbols. Though, I guess I don't really need LFG for that when I already got a friend who's known for having called axes in Calus a 2nd cup.
I recently returned to the game and it was the same experience for me. I had no idea what to do and it took a full two weeks to gain some semblance of an idea. I recently discovered the Destiny Item Manager and watched a few videos on how to spec your build and this was an absolute game changer for me.
This perfectly sums up how I felt when I came back, super confused at first. Overwhelming, but once I figured it out. Fun as all hell
