Aftermarket parts

I'm rebuilding a Volvo Penta SX/DPS upper gear case and needed a used carrier out of another drive that I will rebuild in the future. after I removed and disassembled the carrier I found an odd aftermarket component I had never seen. The part shows using this was taken apart and put together by a non Volvo Penta dealer and likely why it failed.
