Seldom do endocrinologists use optimal lab ranges. This is a major issue. I hope I find a doctor who listens. For anyone else, please go to Stop the Thyroid Madness Group! Good Luck everyone!

Need to look at selenium and reverse T3 as well.

Hey Chris, not sure if you still monitor older videos for comments but fingers crossed you see this! I have normal TSH, it is slightly high of the middle, I have low free T4, very bottom of the normal range as well as low free T3, very bottom of the normal range. I also had reverse T3 tested and it is high, slightly above the normal range and outside of tolerance. I requested to join your program several weeks back and am still awaiting a response, hoping to connect with you soon and trouble shoot together!

My TSH is in normal range
    T4 is extremely low
T3 is also in normal range
My doc said it might be a mistake from the lab because if tsh and t3 is normal then there's no chance t4 would be low
    What do you say?

If it’s a mistake, repeating the test will correct it.

Same here. TSH and T3 are normal, but T4 is low.
What to do? I'm on synthroid 25mcg/day and would like to get off it, but T4 is at the lowest point of normal and TSH and T3 are completely normal.

I think the TSH ranges aren't correct either. They've lowered the top of the range to around 4, but I've read that people who don't have thyroid problems actually have a lower TSH. I've been to an endo who said that some people do better with a TSH below 2.

If this is happening then something is terribly wrong and we have no idea what. There's a subset of the population that has this routinely. People who're in the hospital after a horrible accident or are fighting for their life from a disease. People who are very, very sick. When this was first noted, they tried to give these sick people some thyroid to see if that could aid their recovery. This practiced was abandoned quickly because this very obviously killed people.
A two years ago I presented with this profile and it turned out that I was very sick with scleroderma. Although I was still walking around, going from doctor to doctor because I felt like I was dying, I didn't look *that* sick and didn't get help for way too long.
I finally stumbled onto a doctor who did get it. I showed him my diet journal and my weight chart. I described my symptoms (I feel like I'm dying. Every cell in my body is screaming in pain. I'm so tired and I can't sleep because of these horrible, burning rashes, i have to eat below 800 calories a day to stop gaining weight...")

What happened in the end? Did you get help/ cure yourself?

    • @vociferonheraldofthewinter2284

@@JoeWhittakerNutritionist There's no cure for scleroderma, but I did find something that's made a remarkable difference. Believe it or not, I eat carnivore. My BP is stable, no more heart palpitations, no more skin blisters, inflammatory maarkers down, off my immunomodulators, and two months ago I took myself off opiate pain killers.
The only issue that nothing touches is small fiber neuropathy. But the doctors haven't had any better luck than anything else i've tried.
Oh! And my face has gone back to normal. No more crypt keeper looking back at me in the mirror. Got the flexibility back in my fingers, too.
I really do suggest that anyone battling an autoimmune disease at least give it a try. Can't hurt, might help.
But I do need to take vitamin C. I can't get away without it like so many other carnivores can. I also need to keep my electrolytes up.

    • @JoeWhittakerNutritionist
      @JoeWhittakerNutritionist 5 років тому

@@vociferonheraldofthewinter2284 That is great. A lot of people seem to have success treating autoimmune diseases on the carnivore diet. The GAPS diet, also used for autoimmune diseases and has an intro phase which is basically the carnivore diet + bone broth, but then you slowly add in vegetables and other foods as tolerated.
Have you considered adding in something like stewed vegetables & bone broth (aka chicken stock) to increase your phytonutrient intake, fibre and micronutrients?

@@JoeWhittakerNutritionist I had a genetic screening for mutations and i have a ton of them. I lack the ability to cope with lectins in any form. Lectins are found in everything that we eat - including meat - but in meat the amount is much lower than any plant. (Gluten is the most famous lectin, but there are many, many more. Even rice makes me sick)The lectin problem is a huge one for me. If I eat a significant amount of any lectin my scleroderma flares. I can get away with a bit of herbs and spices on my meat, but I can't eat an entire salad or a cup of cooked veggies.
Fiber is another serious problem. I had ulcerated colitis from the scleroderma and that was literally killing me. I was just about to give in and return to the surgeon to get a colostomy bag. Fiber irritates the condition terribly. But without fiber i have no symptoms at all. So I think I'll pass on the bag, thank you.
They cause me a ton of problems in general and, even if i could eat them, there's really no point to it because I can't do anything with plant nutrients anyway. I lack the ability to produce enzymes to convert most plant nutrients into anything my body can use.
According to my genetic test, it was the plants that made me sick in the first place. Had I eaten a meat-heavy diet my whole life, i'd have been perfectly healthy. probably wouldn't have scleroderma. The test was so conclusive that they even noted that a vegan diet was contra-indicated and that I should eat a "hunter-gatherer" diet - meat-heavy with a bit of seasonal berries and veggies. But now that I'm broken i can't even deal with that. On the genetic level there's nothing wrong with me at all. I just wasn't eating as i was meant to.
I became sick very slowly and in that time I desperately tried everything. Anything I could find that might help in some small way. One thing that frustrated me beyond all reason is that it seemed that the 'healthier' I ate, the sicker I became. The more nutritionally dense vegetation i put in my body, the faster i'd collapse. When I stumbled onto carnivore, i'd given up. I was terminal (that was when my thyroid profile was normal TSH and low T4) and the doctors couldn't help me. There was no more hope. When I tried it my attitude was 'why the hell not? These stupid salads are destroying me anyway." Within a month I knew I was onto something big. I had no idea it would take me so far.
