I feel so fortunate to have gotten to see him perform live! He is INCREDIBLE! He gave a concert at my university just this evening and it was just phenomenal.
Ning An just finished performing with Symphony Silicon Valley with an electrifying performance of Rachmaninoff's Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini. Both Saturday and Sunday concerts (June 2, 3 2012) were sold out. A very gifted young musician not doubt. However, he seemed to fly past some of the most intimate and beautiful moments in the work and opted more for virtuosity. Also, the last variation was clearly a struggle -- well fought though. Its probably the toughest in the set. I'm sure he has a very bright career ahead of him.

It's written in the score that you can skip this variation.The same you can do with the 19th variation. Rachmaninoff did that very often.
First performer that I've ever heard that gets the interpretation right for this amazing work. Hint: it's not a "Russian-style" piece.
