I already crashed my Toyota Land Cruiser! Amazingly I've already crashed my Toyota Land Cruiser, even though I've only had it a short time. Today I'm going to explain my Toyota Land Cruiser crash, and I'll go over my initial impressions of my Land Cruiser.

Careful Doug, you are at risk of reducing the lifespan of the vehicle down to 450,000 miles with this silliness!
Best comment 😂🥇
I would atleast keep it clean and rust-proof it, even if you pay someone to do it all the time you get like 20-30k back from the car at 450k miles if it's without rust. We're all about reducing waste and pollution yet here we are knowingly throwing a car away over a couple decades.
@@Turskaify Exactly, especially if it's a genuinely good vehicle, if a 450k land cruiser was looked after, how many more miles could it do?
It'll rust before then.

I'm in Central NJ, deer here are like feral cats. They're everywhere. We need a year round hunting season, or, introduce a natural predator. I've never hit a deer in 25 years of driving in the tri-state but I can tell you it's getting worse and their populations are skyrocketing. Or, could be all the new building, there are apartments and homes going up in new developments anywhere they can squeeze them. The trick is, whether it's twilight or not, if you're on one of those country roads where it's one lane either way and you have just trees and maybe a ditch on the sides (no shoulder) even if you're doing the speed limit or 5mph under to be safe, you have to drive with your foot on the brake when not accelerating... not quite touching it though. Just like hovering. This will save you some reaction time. It's worked for me, that and constantly scanning from side to side. If you're having a conversation with someone in the car or over the phone you'll just distract yourself even more and raise your chances of hitting one.

I have had one for nearly 20 years; and, there's just something about not having to worry about whether your vehicle will start and run, reliably. I've done the German luxury SUV thing; and, I just hated the poor reliability and dealer issues. Nothing beats a Landcruiser.
Except a deer.
Yeah, and imagine what would happen if Toyota makes them maybe just a tad more expensive (or a fair bit with options, and not compromise on quality etc, or have a different trim level), and packed it to the gills with trinkets. They would sell even faster than they already do.

Doug: loves Land Cruiser because it’s understated
Also Doug: doesn’t understand why anyone else would love it for the same exact reason
Because people these days prefer talking about the more flashy SUV's.
He enjoys that its understated for a used 13' Model he spent 25K on, and it just happens to be ONE of the features of it.
He didn't buy it solely for that, especially at new, so it goes back to the point, anyone spending 85K on a vehicle that is outclassed by its Rivals simply to look 'understated' is quite dumb.
People have too much of an inflated level of self-importance, if you're riding around In a Ferrari or Lambo, maybe even a new Corvette, Hellcat, or some sort of classic, those are cars that can attract a bunch of dudes to be like; 'Bro how do you afford that', but nobody is walking up to a dude in a BMW 7 series SUV or Mercedes GLS asking those same questions.
Obviously today, the Landcruiser has a solid reason to be bought over its Rivals in the 20K range, namely not going bankrupt, but at new, when spending 80K-100K+, it makes no sense.
Congrats, you missed the point.
Bingo. Loves that it is understated hates that it isn't fancy. Clown taek.
also, Doug drives a bright yellow defender, a ford gt40, a Mercedes 4x4 convertible etc because understated is the way to go! I might be abusing sarcasm now. :)

PS - Laguna Beach loves Doug Demuro
Doug, as an owner of a 2017 LC, I will agree with you on the driving aspect of it. I drive my wife’s 2020 GX way more than I should be lol.
The LC issue is just a suspension issue, it’s just needs an aftermarket suspension. I myself can’t wait till I put in an aftermarket suspension, much stiffer suspension.
You, the ppl who understands the LC and I ALL KNOW, we don’t buy it for tech, we can care less about it. Tech gets old real quick but, reliability… never.
We don’t wanna pay $5-$600 for a 20-22” flat tire, so a hole in the wall tire shop can eff up a $1000 wheel, or not have a machine for that size wheel either.
Everyone has their own priorities. Exact same reason, why wear a Rolex or an AP?When you can just wear a Casio or Seiko, it’s just to tell time, without the massive overhead cost of maintenance and lack of reliability. And if you or the kids eff it up, it’s ok… it’s a Toyota
Have the newer LC as well, I hate the stiffer suspension setups. BMW loaned me the X7 for a few weeks. Hated it, kids didn’t like it either. Said it felt like a big stiff 3 series. All of them were getting nauseous on the road. Ends up driving like a mini van.
I like the old school setup and the plush seats on my LC. It has its own charm. Comfier imo. it is annoying around town for the driver.

I can't argue with you Doug, I bought my 2018 recently for the reasons you list. Durability, reliability and one you didn't touch on, resale value. These simply don't depreciate the way an X7 or Range Rover do. Now I can certainly be accused of being a "Soccer Dad", mine is my primary foul weather and carry kid/stuff vehicle. I use it for ski trips, mtn biking, potential off roading but it sees a ton of daily driving and kid hauling as well. I didn't want a luxury German vehicle, I've owned them in the past, I didn't want to deal with repairs, complexity and resale value hit. I do wish my Land Cruiser had Apple Car Play, I find that inexcusable that it doesn't....
The LC will still be going strong well after the others have been recycled into White Claw cans.
I just purchased a GX with 160k, and it drives like a new one.

I REALLY am amped for the review of the Gen 1 Explorer at 0:39, Doug!!!!!! The vehicle that made the SUV a staple of suburbia rather than simply being a backup family vehicle, as it, for the most part, HAD been until the Gen 1 came out in the spring of 1990. I say "for the most part" because other than the Isuzu Trooper & (XJ) Jeep Cherokee, the SUV was not really thought of as primary family transportation before the Explorer was introduced.
Yeah it's funny I vividly remember when those Ford Explorers were brand new and "cool", then when they became old ubiquitous hoopties, and now they're mostly extinct... Definitely excited for that review.
Some how I feel like those first gens were hoopties even when they were new..
Damn shame what "cash for clunkers" did to all those good rides

I currently have an 05 Sequoia I bought as a beater to tow my motorcycles around New England track days.
I thought for 2 grand and 250k miles I’d be lucky to get 6 months out of it.

I felt the same way you feeling, but honestly you haven't driven it long enough, you have to let it break into you for you to really appreciate it.

People buy LC's in suburban areas for several reasons:

2: Reliability=less money spent in the long run
3: Resale value

Coming from a J100 owner, i never saw the J100 & J200 Land Cruiser as an actual luxury SUV. Mine for example has cloth seats, basic AM/FM/cassette player, 16 inch steelies, unpainted bumpers, no cruise control, no air suspension, no locking diff, no abs and not even a driver side airbag. My old 2002 RAV4 had more options and features in contrast.
Simply put, the J200 Land Cruisers could be described as a Sequoia with proper offroad capabilities. Over here in fact, they were roughly priced just above the Sequoia by few thousand dollars. It's just that Toyota of USA, for whatever reason, decided to only offer the Land Cruiser in it's fully loaded model with all of the bells and whistles.
Anyhow, I'm glad that you're okay Doug.
@Doug, I have many friends who own these in the Austin, TX area. Most folks don’t buy them for the most up to date tech and amazing sporty feel. Folks buy them for the simplistic rugged reliability - less stuff to go wrong and lower cost (time/money) of ownership outside of fuel. They like buttons and a CD player. Along with REAL off-road capability when needed or even further modified. I’d own a LX, GX or LC any day over Land Rover, BMW or Mercedes.. In fact I do and they are flawlessly reliable and fun to drive. As you know, the residuals tend to hold better as well. Very glad that you’re ok! Good that you were in a Land cruiser :)
Land Cruiser also has slightly to significantly higher towing capacity than alternatives.
Old Toyota Camry would provide reliability, buttons, CD player, better milage and be easier in the city. Why go for the land cruiser then?
@@tcm81 pretty much. Let's be honest most people that buy these big SUVs, be it Mercedes, BMW or a land cruiser don't really need them. But they still buy them because why not.

I'm impressed with how well this Land Cruiser took the hit. I hit a hare last year in my car (2001 Acura TL), and I feel like the damage was comparable to what I'm seeing on this video (though I was going fast, like about 100-120 km/h).

That's what happen when you have the audacity to use your car. Glad the car is relatively ok.
I've newer hit a deer, but been literally one inch from hitting deer's and moose at ~80km/H. Gets you heart pumping.
I totaled my 1969 Firebird after one year of owning it. My fault too, as I was driving closer to the car in front of me on the highway than I guess my brakes could handle. 🤷♂️ in my defense, I wasn’t expecting traffic in my lane to come to a sudden dead stop, but now I know to always keep space and be prepared for anything. I also now own a 1970 Dodge Dart with a 440 Magnum, so all is not bad.
That's nothing. Friend of mine hit a moose in his truck. So tall it rolled over the truck, smashed the hood, without smashing passenger compartment, LANDED ON IT'S FEET, and walked away. His truck was not so lucky. Fixed it, then hit an elk the same height as the grill. Goodbye truck.
I think the final version of the LC/LX a lot of the issues you mentioned as your problems with the vehicle were resolved. My wife and I own a 2020 LX 570 and it is incredibly luxurious. It doesn't have issues with body roll and it drives better than the Cadillac Escalade that it replaced.
Also, the reason we bought it was because the camshafts and lifters killed our Escalade and I refused to pay $6,850 to fix it. The vehicle was garbage and we only had 118,000'ish miles.
I wish I had bought the LX 570 the first time, and I plan on keeping this for as long as possible.
I actually agree with Doug on one thing-I think most people would find themselves to be happy in a highlander which has better dynamics due to its unibody structure and it retains the reliability of the land cruiser. I was always confused why people buy 4Runners over it when not off-roading lol
I had a girlfriend who bought a new Highlander... in Montana where you really NEED 4WD. I was in it the first time she encountered one inch of snow going up to Big Mountain. It didn't fare well. It's four wheeling prowess (in street use mind you)(partially because of the tires - for which there were no viable choices, but the rest because of the drivetrain and the vehicles inclement weather dynamics), meant that by the time the second season was over: the new Highlander was done. She has driven in the snow all her life, but frankly (I just simply have to be honest) the Highlander was not a four-wheel drive vehicle capable of what most 4x4's, and many AWD vehicles are capable of.
@@jeffapprill6879 I’ll grant you that it’s not the most capable option out there. In your situation maybe it wasn’t an optimized experience. I say that because despite the damage being fixed, it still was never the same and the body lines weren’t quite matched up. Any car that’s wrecked and fixed will never be the same as it was originally. I truly feel your pain Doug, I will never lose my grudge against deer because of that.
Yes how dare the deer to be confused by the intrusion into their territory, into their natural way of life that was forced upon them. Truly vile creatures attacking poor innocent drivers like that

XD the replies
@@captainjackparrotcjp2827 sorry but how far removed does anyone have to be from reality to end up like op? XD
Sounds like you've got anger for antlers. Venom for venison.
The G-Wagon is even less used for what it's actually made for. The G-Wagon is the most capable normal off-road vehicle, at some point celebs just got them for the style and it got known for that, but in reality it's an off-road beast.
Sorry to hear about the accident Doug. Glad you are OK and everything seemingly worked out well with the repairs and the insurance claim. Thanks for sharing, continue creating such great content. Thank you!!
The only accident I’ve ever had was hitting a deer under the same circumstances, except I was in a Lexus with much more damage, with the moonroof open, and the deer’s feces ending up on the back seat, so unfortunately I can relate. 😵💫
Damn that sounds like a wild turn of events lol.
Deer shit in your car before dying lmao
Feces in the backseat! How in the world did that happen????
You'd think that the cargo shorts would've broke the crash.
Way to go, Doug! 😁
However, stay safe man.
I had a Lexus IS300 5-speed manual. It was lowered 1.5in. Same thing. A deer jumped out and there was less than .5 seconds between when I saw it and the impact. There was much more than 4,000 worth of damage. It tore the bumper off, destroyed the hood, and came through the windshield.
Doug is the type of that won't wash or care about his land cruiser but wants his pearlescent white perfectly matched
I feel for u Doug. It's a very crazy world we live in now. Driving is a hazard now. And expensive.
I am glad someone mentioned Toyota reusing parts from cheaper cars in their more expensive models. I always hated how much hate the car community gave like Genral Motors and the Volkswagen group for reusing parts across their lineup when Toyota is just as bad if not worst about it and seems like no one cares. Like Toyota reuses entire power trains and Platforms from cheaper Toyota in Lexus models and it seems like no one cares.
Oh no, Toyota reusing parts from cheaper models known for their reliability in their higher-end cars (also making them reliable.) What would we ever do? The problem with VW and GM doing that type of thing is that generally their cheaper stuff is poo, and therefore the higher end stuff also ends up becoming poo.
We care but Toyota is better made parts
@@tundrav8georgia In The modern car industry part sourcing is really inbred and most parts are sourced from a few third parties.
@@snapchatsnacks3154 very aware it’s on all sides however content is far better on Toyota vs everyone
Well this wasn't something i was expecting 🤣
I live up in the mountains, where lots of older folk end up retiring, maybe 1/10 family’s own, or have owned a land cruiser, never understood why they spent so much for the interior until a family member got one. Reasoning was that they were used to all this old technology. All these screens and such they didn’t like, and well it doesn’t have that inside and he knew it was gonna last. So I’d say that’s why most of the people up here get them. They are already used to the older technology and they know the cars gonna last longer then they will.
My mother's husband had a 1985 Toyota Land Cruiser back in the day, it really was a big truck, I drove it myself a few times before I even got my driver's license! (but not very far from home, a couple of miles) It was very useful to tow a trailer with a pontoon boat, that thing was super strong and durable, maybe not the most comfortable for long rides, but it was very reliable, have lots of fond memories with this amazing truck! I heard they sell a special "whistle" that you can install in your vehicle's grill that actually emits a sound (activated by the wind) that deers hate, that repels them, to avoid collisions, so if that can help you,, check it out, Doug. 🙂
"Bad News!"
"What?!"
"My new Toyota Land Cruiser! I crashed it!"
"Oh no! Anyway..."
we love you doug. keep up the good content my man, keep pushing for success and nothing less. 🍾
Doug Pointing At Ford GT - “You know, this is pretty reliable.”
Doug’s Memory - “So you forgot the video where the Ford GT had to be towed??”
An 18 year old car that’s only broken down on you once? Yeah I’d call that pretty reliable.
Lol that’s not the reason why the Ford GT got towed. I think it has something to do with the battery but I forgot. Other then that it is really reliable
Jeremy Clarkson wants to tap in here....
@@kirkericson2722 Clarkson’s problem wasn’t with the car. It was the immobilizer his insurance company made him install. That’s not an issue with the Ford GT in any way shape or form.
Hah! It has been 3 months now that I bought my 2018 Hyundai Ioniq Electric and exactly one week ago it also had it's first "accident". Mainly cuz of my stupidity and inexperience, during backing up in my in-laws tight garage, the driver side mirror met the door and it bent backwards. Thank goodness the mirror did not crack, the electronics operating the autofolding and the blindspot light are still functional... However the housing is now broken and the entire module has to be replaced now.
Glad that Doug and his Landcruiser is okay tho, stay safe on the road!
Doug the type of guy to put license plates in the background saying 6-6-6 then say he didn't realize it just another "accident" I guess.
Plz make a vid on the Lamborghini Sian also
Yes
Doug is the type of guy who holds the deer he hits as it's dying.
Doug is the type of guy to promote Cars and bids for a video on his accident 😂
I've hit two deer with my car over two years. The second time it nearly shattered my windshield. The body repair shop found a piece of deer antler in my dash during repairs. So I drilled a hole in it, sprayed it in protective coating, and it now hangs from my rearview mirror. It serves as both a trophy, and a warning to other deer.
I don't hunt. I can see why some people have to. I am against all trophy hunting. When you hit a wild animal and gravely injure it like what Doug describes here then you do the humane thing, you do it a final quick favor. The cruel thing is to let it crawl away in sheer agony and prolong it's suffering.
“Teach those deer a lesson.” 😂😂
Plz make a video on the lamborghini sian
Yess
Doug is the kind of guy who would hit a deer to check the car's durability.
Doug the type of guy to make a whole video just to get people to watch the cars and bids ad at the beginning
Years ago, i had a deer crash, too. I repaired it. It was a 90s car, so used parts and paint was 700 €.
3 month later, a stupid BMW driver parked in front of me, reversed his car straight into mine, pushed the whole car 15cm backwards, do his short stop and drove away. I had pics of his license plate, but till the police got him, there was no evidence of a crash to his rear bumper. So the police said, there was no crash and i had to pay for my own bumper AGAIN and this time with all the steelparts and many more.
I can't tell, how much i hate BMW drivers. Every bad driver, every bad situation i had in the last 25 years, there always was a BMW involved. They are plague. Followed by Audi drivers close behind.
