    I like your channel, My JRT Luna is 2 years old. Never had the crate. Training, with toys and long walks. Did al lot of training, I still train. Love my Luna, always reward them for good behavior. She can be alone, but every JRT owner must invest hours in training. They are so funny, full of love ❤️

    When we moved house last year our female jack got out the front 3 times and ran onto the road. We eventually managed to install a baby gate in the house (unfortunately the one from the old house had broken & we couldn’t find one in stock straight away). Then this year we installed gates on the drive. Thankfully we do have a back garden our dogs can run around in safely.

    I'm so glad I found your videos. My 5 month old. Buddy and 8 week old Shiloh act exactly like this. We adopted them from the shelter. They sure do keep me busy. My poor back yard and my walls. I Love them so much no matter what damage they do. They have my energy

    Watching this with my female jack snuggled next to me. After trying MANY foods (as the breeder gave us dreadful food & our dogs are soooooo fussy) we have found that the best kibble our jacks will consistently eat is “Royal canin jack russel” and for meat we use a few different ones. Royal canin are good because they make many breed specific foods for dogs.
    Yep got a whole toy box full of toys. Tug toys, balls, antlers, chewy toy etc.

    JRs absolutelly hate crates or any kind of boxes. They are not stupid dogs. Our had one small room as "safehouse" when he was puppy so no stuff to brake or to swallow. Body harness is bad since when you pull them it doesnt matter for them. Collar is better. Leash 1.6m long is best, but if you train them well you dont need the leash to be all the time. I liked yor video "10 weird things JRs do". It was so true.

  • @mrjeffweiss

    Make sure you get a harness that has a ring on the front. Retractable leashes can be confusing. The leather 3 position 2 clip leashes work really well and can be adjusted to what you are doing and also let you walk 2 dogs at a time.

    Additionally I really like a dog seat belt that clips to the harness - we have one that clicks right into seat belt buckle....our dog wants to sit on my lap and that device keeps her at least in her seat! Thinking along those lines - How about a video on car ride safety if you haven’t done one LOL. First thing I learned pretty quick was the ‘window lock’ feature! They are so all over the place, gotta have that ‘on’! Thanks for the video!

    I have got a harness which also came with a seatbelt restraint. Regarding digging, I am thinking of providing a digging pit.
    I have bought ten toys of varying types as a start. Buying them was funny as I could not resist making the squeaker toys squeek 😂
    By the way I am getting a male JRT and his name is Eggsy.

    Regarding the crate i think it depends. For example my jackrussell tho even he is only like 6 months old. When we leave he has the living room to himself but he does not break anything. I can see him on the camera waiting in front of the door until we come back. I was afraid to put him in crate and took the risk.

  • @janinekyte3328

    I'm not a fact of retractable leashes. They aren't a good ide, it can be too much freedom on a walk and the cord style line can trip up and cut if your pup starts running in circles. I'm a fan of fillable kong toys for distraction and fun, plus the chewing and kicking makes them tired. Last make sure if you're using a harness it fits well. JRT shoulders are designed to deeply fold to dig and move in holes. My girl has pulled out of some of the best harnesses on the market with just 1-2 pound weight changes, including brilliant k9 and wilderdog.

      It can be a struggle in the beginning. Biggest tips would be to remember they are small and food and water moves fast through them. Stick to a routine and don't break and just keep at it.
      Oh and always reward the behavior you want to see. They are smart and want to please you in that fashion so it will get better.

      They vary quite a bit in personality. They can chew up furniture, bark quite a bit, run off suddenly and jump everywhere, especially on counters. I never created mine. Reserve a lot of time for exercise, as that will tire out the JRT and bend you together. A harness for the car is probably a good idea. Buy plenty of things for the dog to chew on. Mine could go through a chew toy in an hour- she only wanted the chewy center. I finally bought her chew bones, dispose of them when done. My dog would jump on everyone in search of affection, and it took a long time to get her out of that habit.

    • @ccbsnyc
      @ccbsnyc 3 роки тому

      Continuing my reply, I would not keep other pets around except ( perhaps) other dogs. Definitely no cats or rodents. Have the dog neutered. Unless you have a fenced in yard, prepare to walk for hours in all types of weather.
      My JRT was a terror, chewed up furniture and carved attention. She was also affectionate, loved people and was incredibly loyal I miss her every day. She was more like a child than a dog. She taught me to love and respect animals.

      I have a 14 year old JRT rescue that I have had for 10 years. Most awesome dog ever: He is super calm, loves people and attention. He is the EXCEPTION. I now also have a 4 month old female JRT puppy. She is a maniac. She harasses the old guy. Rips everything apart. But is super smart and also loves attention. She is a lot of work but I am retired and a certified trainer. Go to the Jack Russell Terrier Club of America and read up on it. They are not for everybody. Fearless and very independent, they have a mind of their own. Combined with their smarts and their speed, they can be a handful. But if you are willing to put the time in, they are the most awesome dogs you will ever own.

    How would you feel if you were stuck into a crate while the person you love went away ? My dog goes everywhere with me if she can't then we don't go. Crating is cruel.

    • @robnewsome2407
      @robnewsome2407 3 роки тому

      I dont like crates either but I have one that I will only use in neccesary situations and a high in energy dog like JRT does not like being constrained. I live in an apartment building so i put her in the bedroom when neccesary if i leave her. We all cant take our dogs anywhere, some places do not allow dogs like the grocery store but a crate does have its place

      OMG… the shock collar/ E-collar is a great tool , love it
      Mine cost under $25 and it has beep , vibrate, shock ..
      My JRussell is so smart -she knows Tha beep then vibrate then low shock if she doesn’t obey … used low shock 1 time & she remembers.., don’t need it again bc she knows that as free beep , vibrate is shock if she doesn’t obey … she now stays away from the street and really obeys great … Thanks so much .. E collar works so well.. and cost so little plus at night the little light on it helps so much to keep her in sight….
      A must have to keep your baby dog SAFE… you really don’t need to shock your dog at all..
      and a shock on her neck is like a pinch bc I tried it .. that’s a lot better than a car tire running over her !
      Thanks again for the E collar 👍😎

  • @AntonGully
    @AntonGully 3 роки тому

    Dog crates virtually unknown in the UK. First time I heard about them I thought it was the cruellest thing ever. I've seen the reasoning but it still seems like dog torture.
    I use a mid-length lead that I control with two hands. It's about six foot long but I feed it in and out as required.
    I use a halter and a collar. I hate just halters for dogs - pretty much no control with one - they make it super comfortable for a dog to pull. Literally nonsense that a halter makes it harder for a dog to pull. Have you seen dog sleds? The halters with a front connection are much better but not perfect. I use collar and a halter with a back connection with a chain between them, in case one or other fails.
    Clicker training baffles me. He hates the noise. How often do you see people using clickers with older dogs? Why not? Because it does nothing. You got sold a clicker. Good for you. A terrier is a nose with four legs attached. They don't have ears, that's why they never recognise their name and why a clicker can't work. You see how often people use clickers in obedience trials? Yeah, never.
    Treats, check.
    Food bowls - don't get those elevated bowl holders. They're especially bad for big dogs but not great for any dog. Like an inch off the ground is fine, but more than that and you risk bloat.
    Jack Russell? Picky Eater? Hahahaha. Oh, sorry, I was extrapolating one dog's behaviour for all dogs' behaviour. Got a Russell that will eat anything.
    Toys? Absolutely mental here. Kong Teddy holding up. Various high end balls, rope toys, mini rugby balls, clockwork rats (retired - got dangerous) - all grist to the mill.
    Dog shampoo? See above ref water. Brush plus lick pad with peanut butter or whatever. No matter how much you brush you will only get 10% of the hairs that you'll find on your good shirt.
    Shock collar? Electric dog fence? Mebbe just hack off a leg and see how that slows them down. Sparks has a seven foot block wall at the back garden. He watched cats and figured out that he could hop from one flower bed to another (they were staggered at the edge of the garden) to reach the wall. We have video of him mounting it with his little elbows and hauling his sausage body onto the wall. This wall ran seamlessly about seven houses down the development. Now picture me on the wall like an errant pirate walking the plank, shouting at him to come back. Rather that than an electric collar.
    The digging is mental. Concrete planters around the perimeter are a solution, but expensive. You can drive metal stakes along a fence line, or put cement blocks along it (bear in mind that narrow blocks will just fall on your dog if it digs under them, so better to go with edging slabs) but whatever you do you better do it good. Dogs have time on their paws and will use it to find a way.

    when your first accessory is a cage, you loose every credibility.. why are you people promoting this torture thing, when dogs can be trained so easily without torture.. ugh..
