    I decided that I wanted to be able to run a 5k by the end of the year. Right now I can only jog two minutes at a time. I never realized growing up that there was a proper running form. @@AWildKyle I have definitely felt like I can run faster since I started doing it more. However I have come up against my conditioning. One of my legs is weaker than the other and I started feeling knee pain that kept me from running. Took some time to implement some lower body bodyweight strength training into the routine. So will now be trying to balance how often I run vs how I often I do "leg day." Either way I am feeling good about the direction I'm taking.

    The elite marathoners that “heel strike” when you slow down their form, is not an actual heel strike. It’s a heel touch but the forces end up more mid foot, so it’s not slowing them down

    People are strange (Inc me.) When I go downhill I use my forefoot to brake my momentum, not my heels. I have to consciously want to use my heels to run with them in any forms. It's a reflex and I feel if I use my heels I'll slide and fall on my back, kind of like the feeling you get walking on ice. Even when braking my momentum for any action like jumping or to change directions I use my forefoot and toes. Never understood how people could run with their heels. Only time I use or land on my heels is when walking.

  • @mariooliva8967
    @mariooliva8967 2 роки тому +1

    after toe off, having a high heel kick is efficient, especially at faster paces, because you’re shortening the radius of your lever (leg, as you contract and pull your heel) from its pivot point and in turn you’re creating a smaller moment of inertia. this means your muscles use less energy to swing your leg forward as you prepare for the next stride.
    for example, it’s a lot easier for you to spin on an office chair with your limbs very close to you, where the opposite is true if you spread your limbs completely out. a similar effect is goes on with the right amount of heel lift for a given pace
    your body seems to subconsciously learn how much heel lift allows for max efficiency at a given pace. so just like any other part of a proper running form, adjusting this is just a matter of what “feels right”
    (spoken from just a college student who’s taken physics, not a scientist nor anyone who’s taken classes on biomechanics. just me connecting some dots)

    • @MichaelLoweAttorney
      @MichaelLoweAttorney 2 роки тому +1

      Well said. It also feels like gravity assists the hip swing forward as the heel falls.
      This is something I’m working on. I’m trying to improve mobility and hamstring strength to do this better.

    • @jdgatlin8813

      So try to almost do butt kicks while running? I’m trying to fix my foot turning out and sometime my leg kinda swings out.

    • @mariooliva8967
      @mariooliva8967 Рік тому

      @@jdgatlin8813 i think when i wrote this i was overthinking the whole idea, but both yes, and no, and it depends on the pace and other things im prob unaware of. i actually know what you’re talking about but have no idea how to correct it 😭 id assume it would include some hip strengthening if that points you in the right direction, but otherwise i wish you luck in figuring it out!
