    The Seiko 6105 is a legend, but the first 6105 is not the one you may be thinking of. The Willard is the famous 'son' of the 6105-8000. My favorite Seiko diver is now back in a modern re-interpretation. Seiko Prospex professional 200m diver. This one is powered by the 6R35 movement and costs $900 USD.

    I've heard that when dealing with this movement, just skip the Timegrapher and just put in on your wrist, as it appears to have no problems when worn.

  • @monsieurp_
    @monsieurp_ 2 роки тому +18

    I've had this watch for two weeks and I'm very happy with it. the movement is a very precise one for me, -7s when the watch is worn and +7s when it is laid down. every morning it is on time. I also had a mini alpinist with the same movement and it was only losing a second a day consistently.
    hard to explain these variations on yours, FT.

      Something is making the power delivery not even enough. When the amplitude is consistent the numbers are stable as it should be.

      @EscapementWatch you're suppose to wear it on your wrist not a timegrapher. I bet if you didn't have one you would have been more happy with it the movement. Its like putting a framerate counter on a game. before you had that the frame drops didn't bother you at all. A thing I did notice, I own a quite a few newer Seikos and I always try to get JDM versions or watches like these that are made in japan because I like to believe these are better. But all my japanese made watches run way too fast or too slow while all my international versions all run around 2 seconds fast a day. The Japanese watches also seem to have more flaws often. bad bezel action, uneven click springs, bended or crooked hands skuffs on the rotor. There hasn't been one I was completely happy with yet. While I never had issues yet with the international versions, they are all flawless so far. Maybe its all coincidence but I start to believe nowadays the quality control is more tight in the international factories.

    I've bought SPB313 recently!
    And for my experience with multiple 6R35 movements..(alpinist / SPB213 62mas / SPB313 )
    Their deviation on timegrapher varies in position but... surprisingly not deviated far in actuall use in living!
    Toughness is just one of the pros of 6R.. You may agree with extended 6R use on your wrist!
    Thank you for a great review!

    I have had this watch for 3 months and I love it. I wore the watch for a week straight, day and night, and I measured the rate deviation every day. my watch had an average rate deviation of +7 sec/24h. The highest rate deviation was +11 sec and the lowest was +4 sec/24h. If the watch is static, the rate deviation is of course higher.

    Yeah. My SBDC105 and my new SBDC111 both had sub-satisfactory performance out of the box, both with the 6R35. The 105 at nearly -30 s/d. The 111 -13 s/d.
    I manage to regulate the 105 to be no more than +1 s/d, was very happy with this, of course.
    I will regulate the 111 soon.
    In both cases, the case back was super hard to open. I had to take the 105 to a jewelry store to get them to help me open.
    I will can't open the 111 with my current cheapy case back tools. So, I recently purchased a much better case back opener.. one with a solid base and frame with the crank wheel on top to get a solid torque. That should hopefully allow me to open the case back myself and regulate the 111 to my better standards.
    I like the new crown position that is angled further outwards away from the center. However, I do t understand why they can't make it perfectly aligned with the 4 o'clock position. I think most, if not all, vintage examples were perfectly aligned.. and they can do it on say their Marine Master series. From an aesthetic perspective, that would be the perfect position for the crown to be offset at.
    Really like the 313 version of this watch with the white dial.

    • @EscapementWatch
      @EscapementWatch  2 роки тому +2

      Yes I use the same caseback tool and it is very easy to open with the wheel. The fact that they repositioned the crown means they could have put it at 4 exactly but maybe it was on purpose to create difference with the original? Or create room for a reissue that will be closer to the original, for both the dial, date position and case.

    • @khronokraze
      @khronokraze 2 роки тому +1

      @@EscapementWatch yes, those faithful reissues or limited editions, and for around $3k+, they give you a perfectly aligned crown to the 4 o'clock position. Lol. Otherwise, no. Seiko's longstanding policy about perfect alignment, or there lack of, stands with sub $3k models. Jk.. sort of. I think the only Marine Master (now just Prospex) under $3k that has perfect 4 o'clock crown alignment are the Tunas (300m and up).

    • @justmeeagainn
      @justmeeagainn 4 місяці тому

      Seiko almost always over-torques the caseback. My guess is that it's done by robots on an assembly line. Believe it or not, if you take a hot glue gun and coat the back of the case with hot glue and glue it to the bottom of a metal cup, you can come at the watch from the top with a wrench and unscrew the back this way. Then peel the watch back off the cup and peel the layer of glue off. I've done this twice and it works.

    All my Seiko heritages seem pretty good with my Willard and 62mas pretty much spot on, my MM200 gains a couple of seconds but, no big issue whereas my new SPB317J1 is -3mins, way off tolerances! I will be sending in to Seiko for checking after finishing run in test for 7 days. It is the first duff one I've had, although I really like the watch itself. This makes me curious if Seiko has teething issue when releasing new model? My other heritages had be out for couple of years before I bought them, where as the SPB317J1 has only just been released and this is the one I have had issues with. Just a thought especially after watching your video.

  • @NotThatSlow

    Wow, that movement is abysmal. Over the last three years, I've gotten two watches with DOA 4R movements and my King Turtle with the 4R36 runs -35 seconds per day, so something is up with Seiko. I have the SPB317 and it’s one of my fave watches currently for the way it wears, the heritage, the overall package. And you are right, the only thing that let it down is the ridiculously inaccurate movement. It’s easily 30 seconds or more faster per day. I can set it in the morning to my watch and by evening, it’s another 15-20 seconds faster again….

I've had a couple that have constantly given me +2spd over weeks or even months of wear, then one that was something like +25spd and a couple that were more like +10. Oh man I love the 237...but the crown position and mood I get from the 8KX is superior. What would be good is wait for a textured dial version of the 8KX if the 317 is too plain jane for you. the 237 is awesome so it is a tough choice.

      @@EscapementWatch although I haven’t been able to see it in person, that textured dial and vintage look of the 237 is a killer for me, the aging seems perfectly done, I also find the willard to be more rugged. Then again the proportions on the 317 look spot on and I really like the date execution, I kind of think I’d wear this one on more ocations, although I’m not sure.
      I’m from Chile and whatever watch I buy, I’ll have to do so without trying it on, so I want to be really sure 😅. Thanks for your response!

      pure luck lol. Buy from an AD and after a couple weeks of continuous use check the rate on wrist. not on a timegrapher. Use and app. Set the time to the apps atomic reading and then check every day. If its way off return to AD and use the warranty. Have them send it to seiko for service or regulation.

    Why does the 6R movement vary so much?! It's definitely some design flaw because most of the 6R movements run awry like this. You need to get to the bottom of this issue and make a comprehensive video.

    • @EscapementWatch
      @EscapementWatch  2 роки тому +1

      I've boiled it down to the power delivery is not even. When I watch movements and the amplitude stays steady, the rate is constant as it should be. But in this one something keeps sapping its power and the delivery is erratic. I should give it to my watchmaker and ask what causing it but the watch is going back and I'm going to wait for an SLA version.

They put it on the presage line even cheaper watches then this watch in price. For a company as large as seiko who makes their own everything in house, the manufacture cost to make a signed crown vs non is basically zero. But they put signed crown with word "seiko" on vintage reissues SLA high end models.

    If you love this model like you say, why not send this back for a replacement with a better running movement?
    People love to talk trash on the 6R movement, often people who don’t know anything about movements (or someone who gets one that’s not running perfect or has been magnetized).
    The truth is that the 6R is one of the toughest and most durable movements ever made. It’s a tank. Get one that runs decent, regulate it and that thing can run for decades without service.
    Ones that run outside of spec are not uncommon, but when was the last time you heard about one failing or having mechanical issues?
    Tudors for example- The ETA’s in the Black Bays had problems & failures winding, the MT5652 has date changing failures and now we’re seeing crown issues with the new MT5402.
    Ever heard about 6R’s having any of those kind of issues? No, because the 6R is damn near bulletproof.

    • @EscapementWatch
      @EscapementWatch  Рік тому +2

      I hear about them failing probably once every month from Kavar jewelers warranty claims. And 4R's die too. Sometimes watches I reviewed in hand on the channel and months later its in for replacement. Some shock me as they were running great. So it does happen. If you work closely with an AD you will start to hear about it more often. Why not send it back and get it a better movement? Because the experience was soured for me and I decided I'm going to get an oem case of this watch and put in a 4r and build my own. Original Seiko case I have spoken to someone to get it for me and I have a 1 year old 4R that is running amazing 0s on wrist since day one. I'm going to put that in my 8kx oem case.
