  • Bigger 4-5 foot WNW Swell today at Scripps Beach. Today was another really clean and a couple feet over head for a few local break here in San Diego, CA. The deep am tide at 8:50am made for massive rollers down the beach at green wall and as the tide slowly dropped out the waves got more hallow.

    Grew up in the 80s and bodysurfed and boogie boarded there whenever I could. I used to leave my fins at the lifeguard station. My friends and I would ride with them in their jeep to get Jeff’s burgers. I remember them letting me use the speaker do I could tell swimmers to “ stay South of the checkered flag”. Great memories. Thanks!

    Scripps pier is about 1/2 mile north of La Jolla Shores. I learned to surf at Scripps in 1963, ridding the "soup" on a 9'10" board. I have seen La Jolla Shore on a south swell at 12 feet a few times.

    This is where I learned to surf in the summer of 1963, riding the "soup." There were more parking spaces then.

    That's a pretty good day for the Shores, it's usually pretty inconsistent with short rides. Love it though

    i live here in san diego, and honestly this is consisted big down here for most people lol. just cause it’s a usual consistent 1-3 ft all the time. recently the storm currents have been giving us lovely sets

    My dad worked at UCSD scripps for 30 years I grew up surfing that beach from the time I was a little kid the other side of the pier was called the happy hunting ground and it would break once or twice a year

      Yeah, the north side is fickle.
      The reef on the north end does good sometimes in the winter.

    If the Shores is good, everywhere else is insane.

    I surfed the biggest surf of my life here during a winter storm. The swell was so big that the cove was breaking too. I caught a right near the pier and road it all the way to green wall. We were well outside the end of the pier to catch the waves.

      Sheesh that’s quite the walk! I’ve done that before, my feet killing me by time I finally get there 😆 now I just park on La Jolla farms and walk down or hike down from glider port

      Aren't those the Scripps stairs? Wayyy too far to walk. We'd park up in La Jolla Farms and walk down the private road, though that was a long time ago.

    As someone who went to School at UCSD in 80’s , if camera walked 1/2 mile north to Blacks Beach , surf would be minimum double the size , with sneaker sets triple the size of shores .
    You surf the shores if you don’t want to get pounded .

    • @SoCalSurfer
      @SoCalSurfer  5 років тому +1

      Charles Herm Your totally right! Blacks get much bigger because of the deep canyon middle peak!

    • @bctesla
      @bctesla 5 років тому +2

      Yea. I had to figure that out the hard way my first year . 6’2” thruster , check from the Knoll looks like fun head high maybe a foot overhead . Paddle out to find the sets were were double to triple overhead . You can catch the wave of your life there , but watch out for those sneaker sets . They can turn into nite mares , especially when your leash snaps . Great video dude .

      Charles Herm thanks man! Don’t forget to subscribe! Yea yesterday every 5-10mins a new board would come in either broken or snapped leash, new video coming today!

    I grew up surfing scripps and shores the place is garbage. Too crowded and waves suck 90% of the time

    • @SoCalSurfer
      @SoCalSurfer  4 роки тому

      California adventurous I surf Scripps almost everyday, yes it is crowded but if you know where to sit you can pretty much surf the place by yourself even when 30 other people are out!
