  • First all understand there is no real opinion around the history of the Wat but people taking sides due to history instead of the why. Why does someone need to build a replica? why put your money towards it? Is this what we should be arguing about?

Like Muay Thai, if Muay Thai Thai really belongs to Thailand. UNESCO may already recognize it. But Muay Thai does not have a clear source and there are not enough documents that Muay Thai belongs to Thailand, so the name Muay Thai is just a name that Thailand gave itself and there is no character to prove that Muay Thai belongs to Thailand. Not enough documents. But they tell their people that this is theirs. Globally recognized as Muay Thai, but the world never knows exactly where this martial art comes from.

Thai created Muay Thai history is around 300 years I believe. they created their history of Muay Thai when the Burmese sacked the city of Ayutthaya. That's when the history of Muay Thai started but they don't have anything to prove that lol.

why they want ? because they want to prove that they have their own culture. I think the Thai words that thailand have nowadays like nearly 200year. before that they still use khmer and lao word also in 20th century they fix their history say that say those about khmer (bad) and some those nationalism in thai say their history older than khmer. yes, but thai (tai) they are mongolia ethic than move south to yunnan province become chinese ethic then they move down south but myanmar didnt accept. after that khmer accept thai people and let them make a settlement now a day ayutthaya.

Thais have never studied history in school. They just learn from google. And they conclude that everything is true. All the letters in Angkor Wat are all Khmer script, no Thai script. According to the temples of Angkor Wat, all the temples are engraved in Cambodian script, all temples have only Cambodian script, no Thai script. Did not learn from history. They only hear that they will learn from a couple. I feel sorry for the Thai people who have a vague history and want other people's things.

Are you saying that Thailand is less developed than Cambodia? Studying history, we can go back more than 3,000 years to the same era as Funan from South India. such as Dvaravati state from Chinese, Persian and Malay documents, DNA samples from human skeletons Ancient times show that Thai people have lived in the present territory for a long time along the river basin. There are many small and large communities. The important thing is the language used for trade in the Tai Kadai group. And studying information from Google is not wrong, but it is important to analyze what is true and what is false. Bring information to support it, not just talk nonsense.

David K. Wyatt, a historian of Thailand, argued that their ancestors who at present inhabit Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, India, and China came from the Điện Biên Phủ area between the 5th and the 8th century.[34]: 6  Thai people began migrating into present-day Thailand gradually from the 6th to 11th century, which Mon and Khmer people occupied at the time.[35] Thus Thai culture was influenced by Indian, Mon, and Khmer cultures.[36]: 203  However, according to the genetic researches, the present-day Thai people were divided into three groups; the northern group (Khon Mueang) are closely related to the Tai ethnic groups in southern China, the northeastern group (Isan people) are mixed Tai and several Austroasiatic-speaking ethnic groups, while the central and southern groups (formerly called Siamese) strongly share genetic profiles with the Mon people.[37] Thus, the origin of the Thai people is more complicated than would be predicted from ethnolinguistics;[38][39] even the so-called Thai-Khmer people in lower northeastern region that shares borders with Cambodia are genetically distinct from an ethnolinguistically related group, the Cambodian Khmer

Khom (Thai: ขอม, pronounced [kʰɔ̌ːm]) is a Tai-language term referring to the people and civilization of the ancient Khmer Empire. Its use is recorded as early as the 13th century, though its exact meaning-whether it refers to a specific empire, a certain historical period, or the Khmer people in general-has been unclear throughout history.[1] The term has been used extensively in 20th-century Thai history writing, partly as a way to disassociate the historical Angkorian civilization-of which many archaeological sites are spread throughout present-day Thailand-from the present-day Khmer people who form the majority population of Cambodia, whom many Thais still believe to be an inferior race unrelated to the people of the ancient empire. This discourse was popularized by 20th century Thai nationalist thinker Luang Wichitwathakan who asserted that contemporary Khmers are unrelated to the ethnic group responsible for the Angkorian civilization, coining the term "khom" for this purpose. By repurposing the term "khom" derived from the ancient Thai term "Khmer krom" meaning "lowland Khmer", Wichitwathakan attempted to create a new ethnicity to accentuate a distinct separation between Angkor and Cambodia, despite the ethnic continuity between Angkor's builders and present-day Khmer being well-established.[2][3]
This is a commonly leveraged theme for anti-Khmer sentiment and historical negationism in Thai nationalist discourse.[4]
