I love and hate Lebanese at the same time.
All due respect and appreciation to Lebanon..I have lived in it for 8 years since I was in the first grade..and I am now in my age 14, but I did not feel a sense of belonging there, despite the closeness of our people and our history. However, some and most of the Lebanese act as if they are better than us and that they are developed and we are stupid people. We don’t know anything . we don’t know English or French and they even mock our Syrian dialect although it is somewhat close to them but there are some differences. I was convinced of this idea. Do you believe that I am ashamed to say that I am Syrian!!! I have three Lebanese friends who are wonderful and did not make me feel racist. Unfortunately, I met them for one year only, and after that I traveled with my family to Spain... As for the rest of the Lebanese, they always blamed me for being less than them.. Do you? Do you believe that Spain here deprives us more because we are Arabs? With the fact that we occupied Spain for 1,700 years, they value us. Studying, French and English, and that they look like Europeans and blonde with blue eyes, stuck in my mind..although there are many wonderful people in my country, but I feel sorry for myself, why should we be racist towards each other, while the countries of the West made me feel more belonging, even though I missed Lebanon, but frankly, Spain makes me feel that I Most of them came from Lebanon.. Despite my young age, I faced a lot of racist attitudes.. Do you know that my teacher did not know that I was Syrian? She thought I was Lebanese, but one day she said a sentence that came out of her mouth unintentionally.. She said *;; Why do you act like Syrians fleeing Bashar al-Assad, shut up ;;;;;;* (Bashar is our president, I hate him so much, everything happened because of him).. The important thing is that after that she apologized to the three Syrian people in my class and that she did not mean that, and then my Lebanese friends (whom I talked about) told her that I am Syrian too, and the teacher was surprised (this is proof that we are very close people , she did not even realize that I am Syrian) she apologized to me but I felt that she had changed a bit despite I excelled in her class and she was always praising me, but I felt that her view of me had become a look of (pity)) my three Lebanese friends about the only ones who made me feel happy, but despite that I was shy and nervous whenever we talked about Lebanon or that they were from Beirut .. Baalbek .. I send them WhatsApp via a group We are special to us, and I feel like a stranger among them, although they are very nice, but I always avoid talking about our nationalities because because of some Lebanese, I have an inferiority complex, and the idea of ignorant, backward, uneducated, and unclean Syrians implanted in my mind..although this thing is wrong..I think because The Lebanese saw some Syrians Those who came from the village and small areas and who do not prefer education thought that all Syrians are like this..Why does this ugly world not understand that in every country there is dirt, the ignorant, the uneducated and the stupid.. I am a Lebanese girl, and I think Syrian people are awesome. I know we have a lot of ignorants in Lebanon, sadly, and these ignorants build stereotypes on what they see in their villages and cities. Because most of them have never been outside of their area, they don't know that there is a different world outside of their group of people.

I'm half Syrian and half Lebanese and I can totally understand the stereotypes both people have for each other, these extremely westernized Lebanese think Syrians are very poor, strict and serious all the time. @@binhilabi In short, politics. Syria and Lebanon share the exact same history and they have similar looks, accent (to some degree) and food. There are many Lebanese of Syria decent. Its after the French colony division was created and Lebanon adopted western like lifestyle while Syria embraced national Arabism, generally the people in Syria are more conservative, and one thing that made many Lebanese hate Syria the most is due to the Syrian military interference in Lebanon (which actually stopped the war in Lebanon) but, Syria refused to leave until later

I lived in Lebanon for 12 years and now i live in Canada. I have met many nice people there and some of them became my life friends but i have seen many horrible things done to syrians in lebanon. For starters, Lebanese people havea sense of superiority towards syrians. I have seen girls look at syrian guys in disgust and seen many other syrians men beat up on the streets for not having their papers on them when they dont even have to. Syria has shaped how lebanon is right now and militarily intervened and stopped the civil war, so i still dont understand what lebanese people have against us.

I'm an Arab Canadian and honestly I'm happy my father came to Canada because from my experience, Arabs (on average not all) are very racist. My mother is white and many Arabs (Especially Arab women) have a problem with that. I'm glad to call Canada my home.

I would have absolutely no problem dating a Syrian Christian woman especially if she's Catholic or Orthodox. I can't date a Muslim because my understanding is that Muslim women don't usually date Christian men. I think people tend to forget such as president Trump that Syria is not a Muslim country it is a multi-religious country that just happen to have a Muslim majority. It also does not have an official religion which is something I think is really cool Lebanon is similar in that instance, open there's argument over what the largest religious group in Lebanon is personally I think it's Christians.
Syria is around 75 percent Muslim, not nearly as multi-religious as Lebanon where Christians and Muslims are half and half.

@@ramranchlover5374 actually in Lebanon, the lebanese people living in Lebanon are 69-70% muslims(Schia,Sunni and Druze and some Alawites) and 30-31% Christians(catholic,Orthodox and Maronite) but if you count all people living in Lebanon including Palestinians syrians irakis Egyptians and other people living in Lebanon it would be between 75-76% muslims and 24-25% Christians

It is true that to the eyes of the world, and in the media, Syria is supposed to be the "sister country of Lebanon". However, this doesn't remove the involvement of the Syrians in Lebanon in the civil war from 1975 to 1990. It doesn't highlight the fact that most families in Lebanon lost someone to the Syrians, or the horrors that were suffered, or that Lebanon was under Syrian occupation until 2005. The Syrians presence in Lebanon impoverished Lebanon, and their current presence in Lebanon is doing the same. This image of Syrians is not forgotten, they cost Lebanon too much, and not much time has passed, so give me a break with political correctness and tolerance empty talk. There is more to it than that. To quite a lot of Lebanese, they are a hated people, they are demonized, and this is passed on to the next generation. It would take a lot of time for this to be resolved. I know the Syrian army doesn't equate to the Syrian people. Canada doesn't have that history.

The girls are using the word culture which is wrong in a way. One of them used the word Style. I think they all mean that the "style" of the people and their way of life is different from what they are used to. I believe it's up to them to decide by themselves because they will be married in their society and are not necessarily going to move to another country. Having said that, however usually if a woman dates someone in the middle east it would mean there is future potential of marriage, and hence most of the girls would eventually be taken to live in Syria so as to follow the husband- which I think most of them wouldn't like to do. I know i'm commenting late but I just want to let you know of the fact that Assad's evil regime specifically targeted the poor areas in Syria while bombing. It's something none syrians rarely think of but it's why you see over representation of less educated Syrians among the refugees. I don't shame anyone from a poor background but also I get annoyed by false stereotypes, that a very evil man contributed to it called Assad. The regime actually tried to whipe poor areas especially in Aleppo and Homs to rebuild it then. I mean, yes we want to make those communities better but not in this way that even Hitler can be astonished by.
