I agree with you. I’m in Las Vegas and I have a 2016 RAV4 XLE. My gas mileage is decent being just driving in town. Interior could be better with some leather or faux leather if need be. AC is good, just put on some ceramic tint to reflect heat in the summer. Best part about this car for me is the maintenance. Easy to maintain, oil change is about $35 DIY. Alternator, water pump, starter is all easy to get to if needed replacement. Also, there’s a lot of old RAV4’s in Vegas and it shows the reliability and longevity of the vehicle. So whatever you paid for your RAV4, I’m sure you’ll get your money’s worth and then some. Some of the best things doesn’t shine like glitter, instead, it’ll live up to your expectations and always keep you on the move. Now that to me is money well spent.
I got a 2017 Awd Limited, and I'm in love with this car. There are no complaints here, not yet at least. My grandfather had an xle he let me use when he stopped driving, that's why I ended up getting one for myself, great cars, though..
I’m on the fence of trying to get a 2018 or 2022+. I love that the 2018 and under are a bit smaller and look more fun. I want to put rally looking wheels and all terrain tires to make it look for sporty and for winter driving a bit better. Not sure where to go but it’s fun to see everyone’s reviews for these great cars
I have a 2018 Rav4 XLE. I drove to Montana from SoCal and got 32 mpg no higher no lower. Hills, mountains accelerating on to freeway, around town in Eco only 19/20. This particular vehicle has lots of safety features...but the one I will always get now is the Rear cross traffic alert that beeps and flashes blind spot monitors when anything is approaching from the left or right. Grateful many times in parking lots. Sounds like you didn't research your vehicle before you bought. I got this because of the reliability and practically all the mechanics I talked to said that particular engine is pretty much bulletproof.😎
I love my RAV4 limited! I do agree about the mileage, but other than that, I have all the bells and whistles I want . Heated seats, lane crossover , push the start seats, Lane crossover, I was adamant about getting a limited because I feel the limited on any model make cars you he Everyrthing!❤️ I love my RAV4 limited 2017. I got a good price too.✅🙏🏽❤️ SiriusXM.,
It's funny because the people that love basic things like keys and not a bunch of beeping safety sensors love this car. The people who drive this car and don't like it should've bought the Limited edition or something. I love the LE. I love manual seats, manual lift gate, A REAL KEY, cloth seats etc.
IMO, the issues you pointed out are pretty specific to you and your unique preferences. Most people really don't care about the key. I would even go as far as to say I think a lot of people don't like the flip-out design either. I can say that I for one do not like push to start since it feels less secure to me.
I agree that there are personal preferences but at the same time it's not about personal preferences its about what the competition offers. A lot of other comeptitors do not have keys, they have push to start and keyless entry.
@@SchwayZ If it's about the competition then why did you purchase this vehicle? Sounds like you did 0 research. I bought a 2021 RAV4 limited for my wife for $33,000. It's fully loaded and if you compare the same features to a similar car they are $50,000 +. Cmon man.
@@bc_usa you clearly don't watch my videos. I purchased it because i wanted to buy the cheapest car in terms of monthly payment. I have a muscle car as my fun car and this is my daily. They have really good lease offers on this car but as for the MSRP (if I were to finance it) then there are other competitors with better options.
I've had mine for 2 years now and the only thing that keeps me from using the lane keep assist us that we have a lot of highway construction and it picks up the lines as you cross and tries to keep you "in your lane"
Just an advice : stay away from model years '13 to '15 , the spring & shock rate make every ride very unpleasant & will take your tooth fillings off . For those who complain about the bad mpg : it's preferable to have a reliable drivetrain than have expensive repair from a cvt or removing carbon build up from a Gdi engine . Good old 6 speed tranny and simple Efi engine is the way to go . Even the new 8 speed in '18 & up model have some software issues
Bingo! The latest gen RAV4 has eight speed automatic, an extremely complex and not proven gearbox that will likely give you a grief in a near future. You also mentioned GDI engines (KIA, Mitsubishi...). My friendly advice would also be - stay away from them!
I think that noise on the front wheel is comeing from the brake pad shim.when toyota couldnt fixed it i made my own service i change the brake pad includeing all the shim on it and till now its 3yrs free noise
I have a 2017 XLE. I bought in 2018. The only problems I've had is 1) Somtimes the the trunk hatch won't. open, Then as Im driving down the road I get an alert that it is opening, so I have to pull over and take care of that. 2) the entertainment system, somtimes is not very responsive, have to hit choice hard 2-3 times before it responds. Other than those I love ihe car. Havent had any work done , just the normal oil changes
With mine, close to 90, 000 kms, the lights have moisture in them, specially the headlights. Also, note to self, NEVER change the interior lights again....since plastic, plastic....and.....yes....plastic!.....breaks easily 😢.....so much for my nice 2018 RAV LE. I also saw rust happening on the top, front part, of the hood. BUT, I had A LOT of great news about how comfy the rear seats are, the folks actually fell asleep well! 😂😂😂😂 Cargo room.....is/was the BEST for this class of SUV. That little blind spot mirror is great....I have both as well. The parking is better with the reverse cam, however when the light hits the small screen it is not good. Winter time.....the car is like "WTF is snow??" 😂 I LOVE the AWD The sport mode really helps from a red light, to get into the other lane. Having from adaptive cruise control, to lane assistance, is great to.
I always never pull my keychain out of my pocket unless I'm in the car. I press the button with my hand in the pocket a few steps before I reach the car, get in, sit in the car, then get the car key out of your front pocket. Try it. You'll be surprised how practical it is especially when you have other cars with pushbutton start.
The clicking sound is your cv joint & axl Wearing out. You can drive it a couple more years before the front wheel Drive part of your all wheel drive Where's out. Then your car will just be rear wheel drive Until it's fixed.
I like your comment about the key. I had a key on one of my older cars. I poked so many holes in several pants’ pockets. The key would drop in and end up hitting the same spot over and over again. That is more annoying to me than scratching stuff.
My 2017 focus does the same popping when turning the wheel stationary. I had a mechanic check my car over a week ago when I got the purge valve replaced. He said my suspension looks perfectly fine. (56,000 miles)
I have never had to put my LE in Sport mode and i am getting 27.5 MPG average it now has 35K on it Yes would like the gas tank to be larger but i think it is 16Gal . I had a 1996 Avalon before i got the 2018 and put 307K on it only got rid of it because the wife said we had it to long
I read that sport mode is meant to be situational, not drive long distances in that mode. I am in WI and I love that I have sport mode during a snowstorm and I hit a bad spot. You can feel it grab
Keys are a problem these days? Maybe I'm just getting too old to understand these things. Aren't all cars interior plastic now? I grew up riding down a gravel road in a 78 f150 w/ a metal dash and no seat belt.
The knocking clicking sound SchwayZ mentioned could be the windows rubbing against the rubber liner. Try wind down 1 or 2 inches likely the knocking will stop. My RAV 4 suffer this as well, brought it to the dealer and they lubricated the liner. It help for a while but the problem came back after 3000 km. Look like lubricating window liner should be part of the maintenance program lol
I just purchased a 2018 rav xle this week. Only 33k and certified. It was a choice between the crosstrek and the rav. The more comments I see the more I’m happy with my decision.
I hate anything but eco mode. All the regular or sport modes do is shorten the length of travel to full throttle. If i want to floor it I’ll do it without a twitchy pedal and sport mode also makes your steering stiff, I have power steering why turn it down ,it doesn’t change the ratio.
My biggest issue has been the radio and the phone interface. the voice commands are inconsistent, the maps are not updated with traffic so no alternate routes offered, the screen does not have a night mode i have to adjust the brightness manually no android auto or apple car. sound quality medium.
The only thing i hate with a passion about this car are THE HEALIGHTS. They are the worse lights ever to drive at night time!!. Any body experience that in the 2018 Rav4 LE model? I had to change my headlights to full LED to aftermarket light back on 2020 .
Yesss bro I have the exact same sound I always thought am I the only one ?? I’m 59km now. only when I start my car and turn it makes the sound but never after that …
I dont know how you're driving it or the region in which you live. I live in north central Illinois. Around the river basin there are alot of hills. I still average around 30 mpg highway. I too have the LE model except mine is a 2017.
I have a 2014 rav4 le. I just can't find a comfortable driving position. Wondering how your seat is set up. I am 5'11 ,170 lbs. I have watched many videos from chiropractic therapy doctors, showing how to set your seat. For some reason I can't find that sweet spot. Maybe you found the secret!
Interesting video. My 2018 LE gets about 28 to 32mpg, in town! No exageration, it really does. On the highway the max I have ever seen was 36.2mpg. I drive with a light foot and always use the eco light for my acceleration. If I use sport mode my mpg drops down to about 24mpg in town and about 30mpg on the highway. Your elevation may have some effect on your gas mileage. A surprising feature I discovered is the fuel vapor recovery system...one night I walked past my RAV4 and heard an electric motor running underneath the car. Fearing some kind of malfunction I took it to the Toyota dealership the next day. The technician chuckled and said not to worry, it is the fuel vapor recovery system working. Whew, that's a relief! Another annoying feature of this vehicle is the brake system...if I do not drive it every day, the brakes kind of make a scraping noise until the calipers warm up. I took the car to the dealership and my personal auto tech. They both told me that there is nothing wrong with the brakes...as long as they don't seize up, not to worry. I love my RAV4. I wore out my 2004 CRV(over 247,000 miles) and sold it privately. I still see it running around town. Thanks for this video.
omg yoou are experiencing the knock too!!! I thought I was the only one. it is usually on the initial start up right?! i took it to firestone and they could not figure it out
Really?....regular/basic keys suck? The Key is a Key and you can't deal with that?. oh, my thigh, oh all the Scratches I put on the car. lol. ?? And I believe, thought I saw, the tank is about 16 gallons..not sure. yes, the gas mileage seems to really suck...that's the thing that is stopping me, right now, in buying this thing,.....that and You Can't put the back seats down from the Back...the back back. what's that about!!
That's what I was going to gripe about! The key goes in the egnition, not on the dashboard or the side of the door or any place of the car other than the egnition. That's only if it's not a push button, that is. And by the way, since when does plastic scratch? This guy is an idiot. WTF?! 🤣
I have that noise on my 2018 rav4 to but i only heard it twice .i have 108,529k on it now and still running like brand-new when i first got it from the dealer
Well all i can say on my rav4 is its my daily driven car after work i also used it for uber so I consider it as sevear driven and still running good.i have 122k on it now
I also hate the small gas tank and the lack of power. My 2018 XLE started getting about 18-21mpg, though after 10K it increased to about 22-23. Now, at 18K, I'm getting 24mpg consistently. Not sure why it's taken so long to get that, and why it's so far off from the advertised mpg. My G37s Convertible got about 20mpg and was a LOT faster! I also hate the hard plastic and the outdated entertainment options. I turned off the lane departure warning because the beeping drove me crazy. I also hate that the stupid cruise control requires the camera to use. If the camera by the rear-view mirror gets occluded by dirt or snow (or even the Sun in the morning/evening!), the cruise stops working. I replaced the rear-view mirror with a frameless version that has the built-in Homelink transmitter for the garage door. Other than that, I like the RAV4. My dealer added aftermarket heated & leather seats that match the dash, so it looks nicer. I added about $4K in amplifiers and speakers and it's now a nice place to spend time.
Yeah I hear ya man! Nice that you were able to get the leather seats and speakers to make it a better ride. As for the cruise control, I recently discovered that if you hold down the cruise control button you can turn off the adaptive cruise control and just use it like a regular cruise control. This will help when the sensors are covered in dirt. Hope that helps!
Same here my mom gets mad when I get on the high way cause I literally have to floor it so I don’t get rear ended. That’s the only problem I have with the rav4 the lack of power
I have a 2018 limited. It holds 16 gal and i can drive almost 400 mi on a road trip. I have gotten as high as 38mpg on a trip. Most of the time about 32-35. But there is one thing i noticed this year. I do the same road trip several times a year to the same place. This year,i went in Dec. The weather was cold. I got 27mpg going and coming and no more. I couldnt believe it. The temp makes a differant. I have 4000mi on this car. It is well maintained. Also you'll notice the transmission does alot of shuttle shifting when you use adaptive cruise. I keep mine turned off.
As a 2018 XLE Owner. Dislikes: Uncomfortable Seats, Electronics for Stereo & Navigation, MPG on Highway are worst than City, I drive 80mph (26mpg average), Very noisy on startup. Likes: Easy to Drive, Safety Features, Average Daily Commute mpg 28mpg.
On most cars if you go above 70mph, your mpg exponentially goes down. When I drive on the highway, I usually get really good economy. Also, most cars have a loud cold start.
Hey sir if you see this comment I have a urgent question. So I want to buy a rav4 2022 lie but the engine is confusing me. So there 3 options. One is FWD second is AWD(8shift) 3 is AWD. So my question is, is the second engine option gear shift?? Like do I have change gear while driving?
@@foodreview3187 I see what the difference is now. So the third option is a CVT transmission. It's just a different type of automatic. It doesn't have gears, it just uses a pulley system that will change the gear ratios. The 2nd option is just a traditional automatic. The cvt is usually more fuel efficient but not as fun to drive.
Thank you so much omg. I’m going to get a Subaru and I’m building it and I’m stuck on this part. Thank you so much. I will go with manual. First I thought manual was where u have to shift gear while riding turns out that not the case. I will go with manual on base crosstrek 😭 thank you and god bless. Also to add my old that 2018 rav4 ate a lot of fuel too.
@@foodreview3187 so actually the "manual" transmission is where you shift gears yourself. Subaru does have manual transmissions on some of its vehicles. The difference between the 2 AWD options for Toyota is that one AWD option is automatic with a traditional automatic transmission that has gears that it shifts automatically and the 2nd AWD is a CVT automatic transmission where it doesn't actually have gears. Whenever you see "standard" or "manual" transmission you can assume that you will have to shift gears yourself. I know it can be confusing
I agree with sports mode for passing. My car is always begging me to ta ke a break with a picture of a cup of coffee lol. I never use mu auto hi beas because other peoples dont seem to work. I'm good with my key. The key and the old style emergency brak are the reasons I bought the base car. The gas mileage does suck. It gets worse. Yesssss cheap plastic. The dust collecting aspect of thd interior of the car. My base came with heated seats.
@rhaven50 the auto high beams have a feature that turns off the high beams if there’s a car in front that is level with your high beams. It’ll turn on if the car in front turns or goes up/down out of eye level.
I’ve got one myself. Had the first model rav4 1995 back in 06 then someone smashed into it so bought me a 04 Corolla in 2013 excellent on gas but in 2018 I decided to splash out and buy me a brand new car something I’ve never had and it’s just brilliant. I got the FWD version, I didn’t need the AWD as I don’t go off-road and it never snows in Auckland but does suck up a bit of gas for a CVT but still no regrets!
I have currently a 2018 Rav Hybrid Limited and previously had a 2011 Rav 4 Limited. (my 2011 I put 200K in miles in 9 years, with very little yearly maintance) I am looking to pick up this car for my son to drive, the feature I am mostly looking for is the safety sense feature. The one thing that disappoints me is the LE is there is no automatic blind-spot monitoring, like in the Limited models. The LE pretty much has every safety feature in the as the Limited, except for the automated blind-spot monitoring. (I realize the mirror is there but it's not the same). Toyota is selling itself as being cash prevention on all vehicles, why not have the automated blind spot monitoring?
I love my RAV4 limited! I do agree about the mileage, but other than that, I have all the bells and whistles I want . The key? cmon, I have 2 cars with the push button and one with a key, we are constantly replacing key fob batteries as the back-ups need batteries replaced as well because they are always ON. There should be an ON/OFF switch with the FOBS but the Dealers make $$$$ changing Fob batteries.
I just bought the 2018 Rav4 XLE and I don't like the cabin noise and uncomfortable seats. Other than that, it's a nice ride. Handles well, great turn radius, and Eco mode seems to help with gas mileage. I like it a lot.
I like when reviewer of auto mentions what he/she likes and don't like; and suggest to improve on. If you do similar review of 2019 onward RAV4; please mention that such great RAV4 in every aspect, why infotainment is with thick frame and tiny screen comparing to competition, certainly not appealing like their 2021 Camry. Toyota did good job on 2021 Camry infotainment update from previous years so take a chapter from it and reflect it on the next(2022?) RAV4 updates. For safety, Every vehicle priced above 20K should put infotainment screen 8" standard and with add on package 10" or higher.
my toyota rav4 2018 instead of running 587 km per tank runs 389, after 21000 km, and ?i have new cabin, engine, oil filters, and I have used Cfoam and premium gas twice to clean the fuel injectors, still shows 389, NO error codes though, dealership also deos not know "what is wrong" :)
I have a '18 SE. Only thing I've done to it was brakes and oil changes. Easy DIY. That's it. Still drives great. No rattles or squeaks. Almost 60k miles. Up for some new tires and drain and fill the transmission fluid soon.
I’m the opposite of you. I like the no frills key! My biggest complaint with the vehicle is the infotainment system. Toyota really could’ve done a lot better on that aspect.
I agree with you 100%. I have a 2018 rav4 xle with remote start 🔑 . The part I don’t like is the ⛽️ it’s only teach to 280 miles range. I have about 36800 miles
Hello , I am in desperate need help in clearing a doubt I had in my rav4, I thought you could probably know the answer to my question...so to begin I don’t live in the states, so the RAV4 I have is not the same as yours, we get the 2.0L version in my country. So I thought that the difference was only in the engine but a few days ago I ordered a replacement rear view mirror from the USA bc it was cheaper to bring and install than to take it to the dealer but when they installed it I realized that it was much smaller than the other one and now it looks asymmetric, one side with a bigger mirror than the other, so I was wondering two things, is it possible that the American version rav4 has smaller mirrors than the 2.0L ones or did I just get scammed and got an unoriginal toyota piece on Amazon?? If they are smaller I think I’ll just order the left side from the states as well so it doesn’t look bad, if you think I got scammed with a smaller unoriginal mirror I guess I’ll have to spend the extra buck on a dealer mirror 😕 thanks hope you could help (mines is the 2018 model btw, the mirror I bought supposedly fit all models from 2013-2018, but I’m guessing only American versions?)
Thanks for reaching out. I don't have experience with the European models but there is a chance that they are different. I will say that my version has pretty big side view mirrors. I can't imagine. I can't imagine the European version having bigger mirrors than the ones on my car. Did the Amazon reviews say anything about it? Otherwise, as long as they work and fit the car then maybe it's best to replace the other side if the aftermarket mirrors and cheaper than OEM
@@SchwayZ Thxs for answering, ehhh well I didn’t read the Amazon reviews, which I guess I should have done now that you mention it, I only read the product description, I think I’ll have to get another one from the same seller in order to make the car look normal and still save some cash
@@MiguelLopez-fh7vx yeah if it still works fine and looks good then might as well just swap the other side and keep money in your pocket like you were saying
i have a 2018 i get 36 mpg useing 92 octane i keep it out of sport mode and that is my average i have got a high of 42 mpg on imperial measurement or 4.5 litres per gal.
Things u hate are all nitpicking.....its a base car of course u gonna get alot of plastic. As for the key i can see ur point, altho i never had a problem with old style keys..u want a push to start/switchblade key...more issues down the road. why u swing ur key like a mad man besides putting it in the ignition where it attended for.
So my rav4 is a gas guzzler I put 35 dollars in the tank this morning and filled it up now it’s almost on E my brother dropped off me and my mom at work then went to school and came back to get us I don’t understand how it took the whole gas tank I know nothing about cars can someone help me and explain this 🤦🏾♀️
Winter tires help more than AWD. AWD only helps with acceleration in snow while winter tires help with braking and turning, which I would argue is more important
@@aszul7750 Winter tires make a big difference, I agree, and on my FWD sienna that's what I have, and I don't have an issue. However, RAV4 was soo bad on acceleration in a slippery conditions, that a few times I barely was able to clear an intersection, making a left turn, before other cars started moving. I had to disable a traction control to be able to move. That's my personal experience with a FWD RAV4. Now I have an AWD Highlander and have no issues.
@@Pertplus I live in Canada, Toronto. But I drive a lot north of Toronto and there is a lot of snow. I would strongly recommend an AWD if you live in a snowy area, it will give you much more confidence.
@@Pertplus The issue with a FWD, it slips on you in a very unpredictable situation, like on an intersection, when you turn left and you need to clear it. What I found is the weight distribution, it's designed for an AWD, so front is lighter than it should be for a FWD. I didn't have so many problems in winter with my FWD Camry, Accord and Sienna. I hope this helps.
We have a 2018LE in dark Teal, - I think that if you had upgraded to your 2018 standard RAV4 LE from the much better built standard 2015 LE Model that your complaints would have extended this video another 10 to 15 minutes. Having An Earlier Vehicle for comparison would really challenge your conscience when making that monthly payment on the 2018. Although Toyota seemed to have Downgraded on its Quality and adding some extra quirky behavior,: a few odd mechanical noises, a few random computer system cognitively mild brain farts at times-all which seem more obvious during the full moon, it doesn’t seem quite right that I paid extra for these new options and expected to forget the past. -Oh, and the Paint scratches and chips wayyyy to easy.
Whoa, at @7.41 in the video, you said you can get the RAV4 LE to go 0-60 in under 4 seconds in sport mode? Hmmm, really? I have a 2016 RAV4 SE which I think it has the same engine and transmission as the 2018... it won't do 0-60 under 7 seconds in any mode.
@@genesisz1 at 7:38 he says sport mode does 0-60 in 4 seconds then at 8:31 he contradicts himself. In all seriousness the sarcasm at 7:38 is not obvious.
I hate the sound it makes when you lower your window. It doesn’t matter which window or all of them at the same time. The sound it makes it’s horrible and actually hurts your ears. Am I the only one having these issues???
I have a 2015 and I noticed that!! at first I thought something was wrong w the window but after rolling it down a few times along w the passenger I figured it wasn't an issue and that's just how it was
Wow! I really enjoyed your video. I got in a jam with COVID needing a car, so, I had to compromise with the shortage of choice. Wound up with a late 2018 RAV4 Limited. that I bought with about 28,000 miles 1-owner coming off a lease. I love a few things and hate a lot that I could not determine accurately until I purchased it. Sucks. I don't know what to do about it. Would be a loss to sell it, but, I'm very frustrated with this Toyota and I've been buying Toyotas for years. Only good thing is based on Toyota reliability reputation, I should get years of trouble free driving out of it, but, I'd still like to get rid of it, if I could, without taking a large financial loss. I had a 2016 Camry that had a better speedometer! I still can't believe that there is a digital part to this 2018 Rav4 speedometer without a digital speed part while you are driving to the speedometer in a 2018 when my 2016 Camry and some earlier models than that already had a digital speedometer and this is not an LE base model, either. It has leather seats, etc. It's a Limited! Apparently only some LImited models that year added the digital speed part to the speedometer. You are 100% right on about the gas mileage. Very deceptive. 4-cylinder? It gets worse mileage than a 2006 All-Wheel Drive Highlander that I had, at one time. Horrible. Further, I experimented with the ECO mode, regular mode and sport modes. THERE IS VIRTUALLY NO DIFFERENCE IN GAS MILEAGE USING ECO MODE. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THAT THE PICKUP AND PERFORMANCE ARE VERY POOR IN COMPARISON!! I don't use SPORT very often, but, it is a much improved ride for pleasure when I leave the ECO mode off. It has absolutely no impact in regular driving on the gasoline mileage. Just dumbs down the pickup and perrformance. Exactly what you said. I have to fill up the gas tank every 250 miles, it starts getting low. Cost of gas aside, this is very very annoying and disruptive, at times, when you get busy during the week and you have to do something and you are in a rush and you have to stop to fill it up. Best I've ever done on a tank is about 23mpg and a complete fillup does not even make 300 miles. Early 2018 Rav4 Limiteds included a CD player with the Entune JBL Premium Entertainment system. This model stripped the CD out of there which is incredibly strange since they used an entirely different Entune radio in the 2019 RAV4s. So, a late model 2018 should have had the CD part like the earlier models that year even if CD's were discontinued from the radios, I have a late year 2018 model. Sucks. They had a 2019 model LE on the lot that I could have chosen over this 2018, but, the 2019 LE had this awful bare bones entertainment system that did not even have an option for satellite radio. The loaded 2018 Limited missing the CD, at least had a built in satellite radio and navigation. I asked the dealer if I could buy an upgraded radio and they said it was impossible and I even asked if I could add a speedometer that had a digital speed like in some of the other Limited models in 2018 and the newer 2019 models and the dealer said it would not be compatible with the way it was built by Toyota at the factory regardless of my out of pocket willingness to pay for it. So, I'm stuck. The digital speed in the face is something I got used to for several years , like I said with my Camry, etc. JUST DISGUSTING to see how Toyota started thinking. Again, if I had picked the 2019, I could not even upgrade that radio to unlock the features at additional cost if I bought the 2019 LE, like to add a built-in satellite radio. You buy the LE and you are stuck with a bare bones radio and a low end audio system. Anyway, found everything you said in your review to be 100% accurate of my experience with my Limited, but, I wanted to put my 2-cents in at my disgust with the 2018 RAV4 Limited and the stupid thought pattern at Toyota after always having confidence and appreciation for their engineering decisions through the years in other Toyotas that I've owned. What also weighed in my decision to go with the 2018 over the newer but more base model 2019 was the reviews stating that there were minor issues with the transmission in the newer 8-step transmision they introduced in 2019. So, I chose the 2018. But, every day, I wish I wasn't in a hurry and a bind needing to buy a car on short notice in a panicked car shortage and overpriced car market. I feel stuck with this car and what irritates me about it with few options to move on from this vehicle without a financial loss. But, I am reminded about it every time I drive it.
😅😅. Scratch your thigh. What do you do about your home keys? This guy. Thanks for the review. I am getting one and your video helped me make the decision.
Things I hate: 1. MPG, I get 21 average in the city. 2. no illuminated window buttons. 3. No power outlet in the trunk. 4. No extension for sun visors 5. Narrow seats 6. Awful Lane Keep Assist system; It is more of a ping pong which works when you are already CROSSED the line, which is sometimes too late for steering. Not to mention it sometimes does not work at all when you cross the line a little quick. 7. Keys! 8. poor infotainment
If your biggest complaint about a vehicle is that the key is a key then it must be a pretty good vehicle.
I love having the key
Hahahahah no kidding right?
exactly.
@@emilybarber3773 I have keyless entry. Love it
@@lung21 ahh so lucky!!! On a 2018 rav?

It's funny because the people that love basic things like keys and not a bunch of beeping safety sensors love this car. The people who drive this car and don't like it should've bought the Limited edition or something. I love the LE. I love manual seats, manual lift gate, A REAL KEY, cloth seats etc.
And you probably have a rocking chair at home that you love too… right?😂
IMO, the issues you pointed out are pretty specific to you and your unique preferences.
They have really good lease offers on this car but as for the MSRP (if I were to finance it) then there are other competitors with better options.
automatic emergency braking in rav4 is the most notable safety feature, according to me. should come standard on every car.
I like the o.d style emergency brake.
Cargo room.....is/was the BEST for this class of SUV.
That little blind spot mirror is great....I have both as well.
The parking is better with the reverse cam, however when the light hits the small screen it is not good.
Winter time.....the car is like "WTF
is snow??" 😂 I LOVE the AWD
The sport mode really helps from a red light, to get into the other lane.
Having from adaptive cruise control, to lane assistance, is great to.
I agree , the hard plastic is all around, the one thing I really hate is no arm rest, I was used to my 2005 chevy Tahoe having them.
Being an owner of a RAV4, I can say that this vehicle would be totally boring to drive without sport mode.
Is it really any difference
Yes big difference
How is driving in sport mode... I only use normal mode
@@charlenehenry6993 Sport mode gives it a little bit more get up and go. You should try it.
@truth959 I have not tried it because the last owner of rhe car upgraded it with a TRD engine... so it has power
In the cold mornings I noticed the same noise going downhill out my driveway when I’m turning onto the road.
I got a 2017 and does the same on cold start . Only when I turn the wheel to the left to pull out parallel parking
Is it the cv joint?
I always never pull my keychain out of my pocket unless I'm in the car. I press the button with my hand in the pocket a few steps before I reach the car, get in, sit in the car, then get the car key out of your front pocket. Try it. You'll be surprised how practical it is especially when you have other cars with pushbutton start.
Love my 2016 Rav XLE! The only thing I don't like on it is no auto headlights. Even my '06 GMC Envoy had the auto headlights.
The clicking sound is your cv joint & axl Wearing out. You can drive it a couple more years before the front wheel Drive part of your all wheel drive Where's out.
Then your car will just be rear wheel drive Until it's fixed.
Key complaint- apparently you'd never made it in the pre-button days.
I had a 1996 Avalon before i got the 2018 and put 307K on it only got rid of it because the wife said we had it to long
Is your RAV4 the all wheel drive or front wheel drive?
I know I’m late to this comment but I’m going from a 1996 Avalon to a 2018 RAV 4 tomorrow it’s a little used but I’m excited
I read that sport mode is meant to be situational, not drive long distances in that mode. I am in WI and I love that I have sport mode during a snowstorm and I hit a bad spot. You can feel it grab
I have 2017 Rav4 xle awd and I love it I have 2years now
Keys are a problem these days?
Awesome thanks for the advice I'll try it! Haha yeah it should be part of their checklist 🤣
I have the 2018 limited awd and consistently get 29-30mpg! I do use eco mode, so maybe that’s the difference?
I have this car and i 100% agree with everything he said.
Don't park with the wheels turned, you will have a problem, the steering wheel will lock, had to find this out.
You dodged a bullet when you didn't buy a Subaru. Believe me...
Stepping down from a horrible GM Acadia to this car, I'd say the gas mileage is pretty good.
My biggest issue has been the radio and the phone interface. the voice commands are inconsistent, the maps are not updated with traffic so no alternate routes offered, the screen does not have a night mode i have to adjust the brightness manually no android auto or apple car. sound quality medium.
Thanks for your reviewing, my question is how quiet is the car when you drive it at highway?
It wasn't too bad. It's about average in terms of highway sound.
The only thing i hate with a passion about this car are THE HEALIGHTS. They are the worse lights ever to drive at night time!!. Any body experience that in the 2018 Rav4 LE model? I had to change my headlights to full LED to aftermarket light back on 2020 .
I live in a rural area north of town, and yes, the OEM headlights are poor. I usually have to go manual hi-beam on country roads.
@Tony V thanks. I Went LED and LED fog lights. An improvement but not 100%.
My 2018 le makes a squealing noise in the back when I first take off. I had my breaks checked and they are in mint condition.
Everything you complained about missing in the interior is on the Limited Premium
Haha I wish I had a solution for you. I think my seating position is pretty comfortable but I don't have any special technique or anything
Wow I thought I was the only one, I really really love that mirror and I agree every car should have that.
Those blind spot integrated mirrors are straight from the FORD family of cars back in 2008. It's an excellent design and love it on my Fiesta ST.
I love the size of the mirrors
My entire life I've had that pesky key lol hopefully I upgrade to the XLE soon!!!
Im thinking about buying a 2016 to 2018 . Have you had problems or would you recommend i buy one????
omg yoou are experiencing the knock too!!! I thought I was the only one. it is usually on the initial start up right?! i took it to firestone and they could not figure it out
I get 22 mpg awd. At over 100k. I’m lucky to get 26. Love it. But it’s not great on gas
Bottom line the rav 4 is king of all small SUV’s.💪🏻
WTF?! 🤣
The official website lists it at an odd 15.9. I think that's not very smart unless something happens when they give a car a 16 gallon gas tank.
@@dona4him942 it’s “ignition” Careful who you call an idiot. 😂
I have that noise on my 2018 rav4 to but i only heard it twice .i have 108,529k on it now and still running like brand-new when i first got it from the dealer
Any major problems along the way???
Nope and still running good
@@allanmanmano6854 awesome thinking about getting one very soon!! It’s between this or a GMC Terrain?
@@allanmanmano6854 I hear bad things about longevity of GMC Terrain tho. Toyota seem to last right?
@@SchwayZ I saw that in the video, but I assumed it still used the camera! I'll definitely try that! Thank you!
@@JohnKalla yeah no problem! If you turn that feature on, it shouldnt use the camera but the adaptive cruise control won't work
Same here my mom gets mad when I get on the high way cause I literally have to floor it so I don’t get rear ended.
My 2013 sonic Lt get 23.8 BUT i usually only drive city. Highway I can get about 32 mpg
I would give up the back up camera if the car had navigation instead.
No I don't believe they ever made these in a manual. It probably just has the option to shift manually if you want to
Oh ok maybe I thought wrong. Thank you so much
@@foodreview3187 I see what the difference is now.
I had my Toyota RAV4 2018 certified, I still paid for my service when I come to dealer. I was so upsad 😢, it’s doesn’t make scence😢😢😢
In 2019 you could actually afford to fill the tank. After 60 mph mileage drops drastically.
I wish my base came with heated seats. Definitely a must have in cold climate
@rhaven50 the auto high beams have a feature that turns off the high beams if there’s a car in front that is level with your high beams. It’ll turn on if the car in front turns or goes up/down out of eye level.
@@VampireFreak014 the feature should abolished.
2018 RAV4 has a 6-speed automatic transmission. The hybrid is the only trim equipped with a CVT.

What’s wrong with it
I have currently a 2018 Rav Hybrid Limited and previously had a 2011 Rav 4 Limited.

I just bought the 2018 Rav4 XLE and I don't like the cabin noise and uncomfortable seats. Other than that, it's a nice ride. Handles well, great turn radius, and Eco mode seems to help with gas mileage. I like it a lot.
I have the hybrid limited version. The seat is comfortable compared with my bmw 328. But the noise is annoying
Toyota care doesn't change the oil everytime. They believe in the 10k oil life. You have to specify that you want them to change it
I like when reviewer of auto mentions what he/she likes and don't like; and suggest to improve on.

😂😂😂
I get 33 mpg on the highway.
So my rav4 is a gas guzzler I put 35 dollars in the tank this morning and filled it up now it’s almost on E my brother dropped off me and my mom at work then went to school and came back to get us I don’t understand how it took the whole gas tank I know nothing about cars can someone help me and explain this 🤦🏾♀️
Mine is 2017 LE FWD, and I regret buying FWD. It's horrible on a snow. If it was an AWD I wouldn't hate it that much.
Where do you live Alex ? I’m not sure if I want awd or fwd.
You really misheard that completely
@@genesisz1 at 7:38 he says sport mode does 0-60 in 4 seconds then at 8:31 he contradicts himself. In all seriousness the sarcasm at 7:38 is not obvious.
The small blind spot mirror. That's because it's an American model. The rest of the world has convex mirrors :-)
Omg what's the deal with the key.
I hate the sound it makes when you lower your window. It doesn’t matter which window or all of them at the same time. The sound it makes it’s horrible and actually hurts your ears. Am I the only one having these issues???
I have a 2015 and I noticed that!! at first I thought something was wrong w the window but after rolling it down a few times along w the passenger I figured it wasn't an issue and that's just how it was
Did you lease this vehicle?
Thanks for the video. Nice job.
I must comment on the key thing. It’s a key. That’s the way they are.
Again, I appreciate the video
True but a lot of base cars have more sophisticated keys. Thank you for watching
Flip keys are the best. Key is always hiding until you press that little button on the key fob. So, not all the keys are the same.
Rubbery plastic. Do mean vinyl?
Things I hate: 1. MPG, I get 21 average in the city. 2. no illuminated window buttons. 3. No power outlet in the trunk. 4. No extension for sun visors 5. Narrow seats 6. Awful Lane Keep Assist system; It is more of a ping pong which works when you are already CROSSED the line, which is sometimes too late for steering. Not to mention it sometimes does not work at all when you cross the line a little quick. 7. Keys! 8. poor infotainment
Get the rav 4 limited u won’t have those issues
