The Arabians have such beautiful designs and ornamentation. I wish we got to see them in more than just pass-over shots.

An Episode where Silver-Quill Isn't horribly attacked by something (aside from a javelin but it seems a medic took care of it) AND gos out with a athlete? Is this a sign of the apocalypse?
I think the disappointment comes from the expectations from The Best Night Ever. The Grand Galloping Galla was built up and when we got to that episode we were able to fully explore what the Galla was about, seeing every pony's reaction and not focusing on a single character. This episode, while displaying a lot of ponies, made us feel like we were backstage of a major event. What's going on backstage might be interesting, but I came to see what was built up. Even still, I like this dilema Spike had to go through. It's an encounter I myself have faced many times.
The lesson in this episode made me cry. It hit really close to home.

And still no zebras. I swear, the pony xenophobia toward the striped folks didn't start with the ministry of image. Clearly, this has been brewing for some time. Decades at least.

After Twilight lit the torch, Luna was the only one who looked suspicious of something. I think it's very subtly implied that she ordered the magic disabling gates to be put up, even for royals and security, since Twilight was a strong suspect.
This is a great Spike episode, but calling it the Equestria Games is a complete misnomer. They should've called it something else, which might've lessen the backlash.

I have to be honest, I like this episode because it has some of the best visual gags in a long time. A return of lighter!Spike and the umbrella? Just awesome.

Jubilee is there because, since, for example, the Crystal Empire can only grow crystal berries, many businesses are booming with trade. This would, of course, include the cherry trade, with the aforementioned berry example.
