1:10 Bambu Studio has updated since this video was made, and no longer lets you select "keep upper" or "keep lower" and instead replaced it with "Object A" or "Object B", and if you select BOTH of the objects, slice, and preview the gcode, you'll see it didn't combine the parts correctly. So it appears that they have made changes to the order in which parts are assembled, which causes the text to disappear after slicing. So to fix this you slice and keep both parts *BUT* after assembling you need to switch from Global to Object view and arrange the parts (by clicking and dragging the object) in the assembly so the text is at the bottom of the list for that assembly. Also some tips to getting good results: set elephant foot to 0, select arachne, set initial layer width to .55, and print on textured PIE @40mm/s. I use eSun PLA+ and bed adhesion is great, and 4mm tall text is as small as you should go imo. Arial Rounded MT Bold font is a good choice. If you're making something like a poker chip with text on it, I wouldn't go smaller than 34mm in diameter.
I came here to say this, as I love the tutorial. Good note is if you cut and paste an object (I have a 3 color object) the item you cut orders to the bottom automatically. A solid way to arrange things quickly.
@@bombsurace9548 , if you have multiple components in an object, you can split and join the components. When split tye go to the bottom of the list, so join the ‘top’ layers, then split then rejoin the whole object
I follow your steps and get a model that’s just one color when I slice it even though I have the objects as two colors prior and after the assembly I can still see the two colors.
Hope you figured this out! For those still having this issue, switch the order of the objects in the sidebar before hitting `assemble` and it will fix the problem
@@cameronschwartz I had the same problem, but by watching the video I can tell you the answer: when you slice the objects, keep the upper part for the "plate" and then keep the lower part for the "drawing" that you want to see. that way the object will automatically be aligned correctly

@@TheCooliestPerson Can't thank you enough for this comment - I've been converting old dual height/colour switch doorsigns to flush to plate prints in Bambu Studio and this issue has been driving me nuts. So much time I've wasted until I saw this comment - if I could buy you a beer or a coffee I would!! Thanks!
Thanks. This is probably the best explanation of how to do this however I am having an issue. Hopefully you can tell me what I’m doing wrong. I try to follow this to a tee and I get 3 different results. 1. Comes out perfect 2. The backing completely covers the pattern after being sliced and it just looks like a gray coated on both sides 3. Most common. It will print one layer of the gray back on the bed then the design and then back to the gray backing. Also I don’t have the assembled button. Looks like it’s replaced with merge. Note: I have sliced it merged and unmerged with same results.
Great tutorials! I'm almost there! Trying simple nametags of STLs imported from TInkerCad. I have the text and background assembled, but for some reason the background is printing one single layer before starting the text color layers. Layer #2 shows both the background and text correctly. I'm sure it's simple, but I can't figure it out. Rafts are off.
Out of interest, did you slow the default speed settings down at all? The finish looks ace! I'm producing some smaller keychains but struggling with some areas of detail.
I found that if I make the object Black and the Pattern White, I get this error. Reversing them corrected. You can change to whatever color you want when you assign colors from the AMS.
I know this is an old video but it seems you edited more than just the layer height, since you are using .16 profile, what did you change under speed(its orange so something was changed)?
For the life of me i cant figure out how to do this. I have my own line drawing from procreate, which i then convert to svg or stl but dont know what to do with it after that
I cant get this to work for me. I have the newer version of Bambu Studio but changing the order of the objects in the assembly doesnt make any difference. Anyone know what might be going wrong?
awesome vid buddy. I have been searching for this sort of help to achieve this for 2 weeks solid! I've had many opinions on what to do but none of them printed the first layer only.
I am having the hardest time getting a solid back on the designs I make. I extrude each part of my image into a separate body in Fusion360. Then I export them as stl files. I can set all the piece of my image to, say .2mm and I would like the rest (2mm) to print solid. When I assemble them they look great, but once sliced the entire object becomes on solid color (my back color). Do you have any suggestions for me? - Thank you
@@cameronschwartz @rebeccabowers5629 I think I found the solution as I was reading this. In the objects tab go to the part you want etched in cylinder and right click that. Change the part type to modifier
If my preview is missing items or showing as only white, are the details too small? I have some that just won't slice right even uploading as two different files. The slice preview looks a mess or is all white for 50mm logo keychains
Hmmm… My first thought is to make sure that all of the parts are in the assembly. You can try re-ordering them in the parts list as well. The last thing I would try is changing your slice-gap closing radius (I believe you need advanced settings enabled to see this) to a higher or lower value. Let me know if you’re still having issues and we can chat!
Hi! Sorry about the issues-- I made an updated tutorial that guides you through how to fix this. The link is in the description of this video, and the part you're looking for is 2 minutes in. I hope this helps. Happy printing!
I got a keychain design from Tinkercad and follow step by step but still dont get what you shown. Can I send you my STL file and help me to take a look? This keychain is for my son's martial art class. I am using A1 AMS. TIA.
You can but it's slightly more complicated. I'd slice the file so it prints only the black part, then slice the file so it prints only the white part with lift z set to whatever height your black part was (probably .6 if the black part was .4) Then combine the gcodes so the print continues after the black, does a filament change then prints the white part. I've done it a dozen times but it's hard to do at first.
I’m new to 3d printing so this might be the bad way… but on my x1c I just took the original .stl and did a color change at layer height 3 (total 4) and it came out good. Am I missing the mark? Or I missed the mark on flush?
There's nothing wrong with the way you do it (that's actually the intended way to use these models) but the method I show in this video is in case you wanted to make it completely flat. That way, for like a coaster or something, instead of there being a layer of black on top of a layer of white to make the design, the white and the black would be mixed on the same layer so there's no 3D printed texture on the top. It's just another way to do it! I hope that makes sense, happy printing!
I guess I am not that smart or doing something wrong, this seems to be the easiest method I have seen, tried several times and my raised always ends up concaved. Can I pay you to do one for me?

Nice! What nozzle do you use? I’m trying to do the same thing but with smaller objects with fine lines. Just got a .2 nozzle and wondering what the best settings for a super detailed first layer would be.
I just did an object w/ raised text as a test (my 1st multi-color), so it just printed the base in 1 color then a single change to another color to do the text....using your method, it will have to do a color change every layer, for however many layers both colors are present (I believe 2 in your case), then eventually it changes to all white? You went a little too fast for me. LOL
this is perfect for what I needed..one other question....what program are you using to design these pieces? im using illustrator then exporting out...do you use something different?
Hi! Glad I could help. I do usually use Illustrator as well, exporting as a DXF for Fusion 360 or as an SVG for Bambu Studio. I've also been using an online tool vectorizer.ai to save some time, and I think it actually works better than image trace in Illustrator sometimes. Let me know if you have any other questions!
