    It’s interesting that longevity is often influenced by factors that don't necessarily require a lot of money, such as regular physical activity, diet, maintaining social connections, and (for extreme longevity) having good genes.

    I'm a big fan of Bryan and supporter of blueprint. I feel like these supplements are a convenient way for people with a lot of money and lack of time to get many supplements with a high probability of being beneficial in. The consequence of not taking action aren't pretty, ( you age poorly and get lots of health problems ). When money isn't a problem it makes perfect sense to just throw everything you got at a small chance of reducing the grim fate of aging. As for myself i prefer to focus on supplements that have proven results and are backed by researchers that i follow and know. ( some of them personally ).

    I love what Gabor Mate says about extreme longevity pursuit: He couldn’t care less about it, because it can detract from the value of being present and experiencing life. And I absolutely agree. I don’t need to try and extend my life so much that I forget to actually live it. We will all die, and even if we could cheat death, it would likely come with a deep darkness.

      There are many valid criticisms, but I find armchair psychology like this to be kind of off putting. I've watched several of his videos and he clearly enjoys his weird lifestyle. Really reminds me a lot of the people who joke that "they say vegans live longer, but it's just because the day goes by so slowly when you're only eating carrots and cardboard HURHURHUR"
      Also I couldn't disagree more about life being short making it better. I think I would absolutely enjoy my life more if I knew I had a couple of centuries ahead of me. As it is I constantly feel the stress of time passing by, of knowing that my years are short and youth is fleeting and that I'm absolutely not living my best life or living up to my potential. It sucks knowing that it won't be long before I'm old and gray and dead.

      @@orirune3079 I didn’t say basically any of that though. It wasn’t a psychology diagnosis, it was just an observation made by an MD who I happen to enjoy listening to. And the point wasn’t to say that a short life is better, in fact it’s contradicting this idea that we should just fret and worry and stress about getting older, because that means we are living. The point Gabor and myself was making is that being healthy and reaching your potential is an absolutely amazing goal, and I don’t necessarily fault Bryan for wanting to pursue this for himself (thought I do agree the money could be used for more beneficial things), I just don’t personally want to live my life desperately fighting not to age and die. I think this constant attempt to optimize ourselves and extend our lives past 100 can take away from the joy of what impermanence really is about: enjoying this moment for what it is and then allowing it to pass. Change is literally the only given on Earth. Everything will shift, grow and change and we are not powerful enough to stop it. So do I believe in ‘live fast die young?’ Absolutely not. Take care of yourself, but I do believe that acceptance of the realities of the world is important. We could literally all die tomorrow in a freak natural disaster, and while remaining fit is a worthy pursuit, I don’t see Bryan’s pursuit as desirable for me personally. I don’t need or want to maintain youth and a supernaturally long life. That’s just me.

    • @maddyharvey7414
      @maddyharvey7414 Місяць тому

      @@-Aidan Where did I say he doesn’t enjoy it? I said it can detract from experiencing life and being present, which I still think is true. He might enjoy it, but being so focused on the future and preventing ageing likely does take away from how he shows up in the moment, because anything you put extreme focus on will do that. Not always a bad thing, but I’m pretty sure I was speaking about MY life and referencing someone who’s words resonated with me. If Bryan wants to spend his life trying to run from ageing and death and that makes him happy, so be it. But for me that sounds miserable, because I don’t believe I need to live to 100+ or remain forever in my 20s to love life. In fact, I’ll reference a quote from the movie Troy: “The gods envy us. They envy us because we’re mortal, because any moment may be our last. Everything is more beautiful because we’re doomed. You will never be lovelier than you are now. We will never be here again.” I want to be present with my loved ones, and be interested in the world around me, not just in myself and how long I’ll live, which doesn’t mean I don’t want to put time into being healthy 😊

    Dude doesn't need the $$ from a supplement company. He sold his last venture for $800 million, so id say he's pretty right to retire if he chooses and live on a yacht like some rich guys. I think based on his meticulous testing, that he's fairly convinced of the legitimacy of what he's put together. I'd also say evaluating something without taking it yourself along with regular blood testing for at least 6 months is not a fair assessment. If I go down this path, I'll be testing and also carefully monitoring my training and recovery to see how things go. Of course, if you aren't already slightly obsessed with biohacking ie sleep hygiene, not drinking alcohol/taking drugs , exercise , then its probably a waste of money going down this route. You can just search for the Bryan Johnson protocol. They give you everything right there on the site, for free. You dont' need to give them any money and most of their supplements are over-hyped or bunk.
      some people might need a paid program but you clearly don't have too. There are plenty of people that need things mailed to them in a box so who cares if they turn it into a profit center. For those that take a little time, you get all the information for free.

      But all of that is unnecessary, 5g a day every day for life is the start and end of the nuance with Creatine supplementation. (There's also no difference in the different kinds of creatine being sold, so don't buy the overpriced stuff, just get the creatine monohydrate)

I recently had lab work done so maybe at the end of 3 months (if I continue it) I will get another lab test, and other medical tests done to see if it improved my health in anyway. If it doesn't I'll ask for a refund. If I can't get a refund I'll ask Amex to dispute the charges :)

    I honestly believe everything starts with the gut health. And from improved gut health we can obtain better health of the nervous system (and the other bodily systems). These two (gut + brain) run the show for the rest of the body, more or less. They're the powerhouses. If you're going to spend your money on anything I suggest spending it on something like a good quality digestive enzyme - most people are deficient on enzymes, especially as we age and consume more of the modern diets and live the standard lifestyle. Most of these supplements will do little to nothing if we don't first prioritise how well we absorb and optimise what we eat. We need to absorb and utilise, otherwise, it's just expensive waste.

      @@AndrewHelgeCox, It's not an area of expertise. I'm still new to the concept and what it entails, etc. However, the studies seem promising. And my feeling is that they could be effective in severe cases, but are not necessary in most cases.
      Firstly, I think being on a 'gut-healing protocol' is a good step to start with for most. Using a combination of digestive enzymes, SBO probiotics, and wholefood sources of minerals like magnesium and zinc could be a starting point. Upping alkalising and anti-inflammatory, wholefoods. High fruit diets can be very gut-healing, but I know the types of fruits people can tolerate can differ from person-to-person. A lot of it is to do with having the right terrain and aligning more with our species-specific diet which is highly frugivorous. Hydration and fibre are something most people can benefit from getting more of to help in better health.

    Oh, and I’ve lost 18 pounds in past 42 days from when I started taking his olive oil. I’m exercising by outrigger paddling 4x a week, not eating past 5 (not eating means not eating anything including popcorn 😂) which is a bit uncomfortable at first but I adjusted, and my sleep has improved dramatically (according to the way I feel and my Garmin watch). I feel the olive oil at each meal helps curb my appetite. It’s the only olive oil I’ve lloved the taste.. and I’ve tried olive oil in Italy and Croatia. Maybe this is a placebo? Not sure, but it seems to be working. I only take about 1/2 of his “stack” because I’ve already had those vitamins. Anywho, I still cheat at least one day a week w pizza and booze. I started at 252 and hope to get down to 210. It looks promising so far. I will be trying his “expensive” stack. I just wanted to let you that I've been watching your content for years and you've been a part of the inspiration for me going vegetarian to reduce animal suffering. It's been probably a decade long journey of me slowly considering it more and more ethically important to my own values. I've gone from questioning why certain intelligent animals such as octopuses are eaten, to wondering why eating dogs is considered worse than other types of animal agriculture, to slowly gaining so much respect for the intelligence, feelings, and lives of more than just the well liked animals that I don't even want to eat the "humanely" raised animals.
    I knew this was becoming more important to me before I could reasonably make a switch. I've always struggled with poverty and mental health, so struggling to eat in the first place meant that I wasn't in a place to do the added mental effort of figuring things out. I'm neurodivergent in addition to the other struggles, and part of this for me is having difficulties with certain textures and being a picky water to the point of vomiting or not eating if I do not like a food. (Lentils are disgusting. I don't get how anyone is eating lentils.) There was a point where I had a gap in receiving food stamps while information was processing to be renewed. When I got all the food stamps at once from the months I'd missed out on, I used that larger food budget as an opportunity to experiment and find out what vegetarian foods I would like to eat that felt like they could be consistent for me.
    I've been vegetarian since October now. Because I already had a reduced meat intake due to both finances and ethics, the switch has been pretty easy to maintain. In the past few months I've gone from just eating vegetarian to paying more attention to my nutrient needs. Medicaid is now having to pay for me to get some B12 shots, because I was too poor to supplement BEFORE it became an issue, but that deficiency caused me to research foods with B12, and I've made a switch from cow's milk to fortified soy milk, which allowed me to eliminate another animal product from my diet. I'm not in a place financially or mentally to give up eggs and cheese at this moment, but just going over time from meat eater to reduced meat to vegetarian gives me some hope that it could be a possibility in the future, especially as more alternatives become available and more affordable.
    I just wanted to let you know you've made an impact with someone and to say thank you for your videos.

    Hang on... he's giving away his blueprint protocol for free. His book? It's free. He's never said you have to buy the stuff from me or you'll fail!!!
    A lot of people were repeatedly asking for him to simplify things for them by just bundling it all up and selling it so they didn't have to do all that work trying to source everything, which many grumbled - a lot of grumblers - they wouldn't do, so, appeal to futility, why bother? I actually think that part is kind of sad, which is to say I think they are missing some of the point.
    Here is a person who has invested a lot of time in himself and, sure, he has the time and money to do that but... It's like 'self love' is a dirty word in our society, like its either sloth or new age hippy-dippy shit. Which is to say, all that work that he did to get to 'here', that's time he has invested in himself. I would say you're going to derive a lot of feelgood from that, possibly more than from opening your mouth and shoving back pills, with the aided lubrication of olive oil!
    Also, though he's mostly vegan (I think he said some of the supplements aren't fully vegan but that he's working on that) he's not shoving that down people's throats and causing them to hate on vegans as a result. He has said he wants people to experiment, to actively deviate and share their results.
    It's not like he needs the money, he's extremely wealthy, but I'm sure if you look at what he's going to do with the money, some will go to research and some to good causes.
    But sure, if someone's selling something, the cash cow that is UA-cam is the absolute worst place for honest reviews on products (unless the reviewer purchased the thing themselves, anonymously, with their own money, rather than cultivating a mutually beneficial relationship from accepting products sent out for review and knowing if they give a bad review, they won't be sent other things to 'review'), so I get that it's always smart to question.
    Speaking of which, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on Abbey's latest.

    And he is literally putting everything online for free. If you dont want to buy it from him just go to the grocery store. And if his information about what he eats is accurate he himself is paying 337,20$ for his supplements. And from what I have seen in his comment section is that the people were asking for this Blueprint Stack.
    This video seems like its taken in bad faith. I might be wrong, but from I have seen is that he tries to be as healthy as he can, driven by data he gathers about his body, puts that information online FOR FREE, is saying that nobody should just follow him blindly but instead listen to their own bodies. He does that FOR YEARS FOR FREE and then people are asking him to provide it to them and he does and is critized for it. I think its totally fair to argue and criticze the product but as far as him doing it for the money, I cant see it (but I might be wrong). But I will go with Ockham's razor on this one.

In our age we like to think of ourselves as more knowledgeable than our predecessors, but the reality is that we've strayed away from the most basic and effective remedies meant for humankind. Not saying modern medicine isn't necessary, but most non serious ailments can be taken care of at home. So I did simple Google search and it seems that the original "vegan" term derived from a vegetarian group but also excluded eggs and dairy - even though so many claim it isn't and never was about a diet. Seems it later became about total animal exploitation when animal rights activists got involved. Just a suggestion for content on future video. 👋

    I don't think the critique is fundamentally wrong, but I think you made some very disingenuous conclusions. Bryan never claimed this would replace good sleep and shit diet. He claims that it's an option for those who don't want to be as extreme as he is and adopt the fraction of his routine to get 80% of the benefits. My monthly spending on supplements and food is more than the cost of Blueprint. However, everything I buy is organic, which I don't see on his label. I take it a few minutes before each meal which helps minimize insulin spikes (all protein and fats do). I also feel it curbs my appetite. (Sometimes I take it with my meals). I’d say, don’t knock it until ya tried it. There is too much negativity in the world, and it doesn’t help when positive people go after others who are trying to improve people’s lives. Just sayin’.

    Honestly, I think the olive oil seems pretty reasonable, not too crazy of a markup and the "snake oil" thing is fun, so I can see why someone would pay a bit extra for that! After all, 750ml bottle will last for like what, a year, or at least 6 months? Supplements though.. nah

    • @veganforthem76
      @veganforthem76 Місяць тому +1

      What are you talking about? A tablespoon of olive oil is 15 ml, so doing just a tablespoon a day (most people would consume far more) you would empty the bottle in 50 days (or under two months). Also, paying a mark up for the bottles to say 'snake oil' is juvenile, cannot think of a single person who would do such a thing.

    • @y-yyy
      @y-yyy Місяць тому

      @@veganforthem76 Obviously people are different. I buy 500ml bottles of olive oil, can't remember when I bought my last bottle and it's still mostly full. I find it hard to imagine why someone would consume "far more" than 1 tablespoon of olive oil per day on average, but if that floats your boat, great, you do you. Same goes for things like overpaying for design, some people are willing to pay extra for things they use daily to look nice or be fun because it makes their daily life a bit more exciting, some people think that's juvenile and only care about function. And I can absolutely see why the first type of people might be willing to pay a bit of premium if they like Bryan and like the idea. In fact, people pay premium for seemingly meaningless things all the time, that's how our economy is alive at all. Would I buy this oil? Hell no, but as far as influencer "merch" goes, I think it's reasonable. No need to get weird just because it's not your thing.

    • @veganforthem76
      @veganforthem76 Місяць тому +1

      @@y-yyywell, in case you don’t know, a tablespoon of oil is literally a spoonful. If you bought a 500 ml bottle and is full after all that time, you must cook without oil or use really tiny amounts. Just drizzling over a pan for a stir fry or making a salad dressing requieres far more oil than a tablespoon, and most people tend to cook more than once a day, hence why most people go through more than a tablespoon of oil a day. I am a registered dietitian, and I can tell you right of the bat that people are not great with measurements, and oil is really easy to overconsume if you’re not paying attention. Regardless, Brian himself recommends more than a tablespoon of his snake oil a day, because the idea is to benefit from a certain amount of antioxidants, so your point about it lasting six months to a year is flat out false. In regards to paying more because you view the bottle as merch, again, that’s juvenile, you can write in on a regular bottle of olive oil and save your money, but I am not judging, whatever makes you happy 😅

    Unbelievable. No, the Blueprint he is selling is incomplete because it does not have the prescription drugs, the laser treatments, hair treatments, mountains of tests to use as feedback, or identify targets to address, etc. His product is what he can sell legally, and that is where one gets 80% of the benefit. And the blueprint includes all the other things for you to do, like the exercise, sleep, and such. It certainly does not suggest you can do a bunch of terrible things and swallow some pills and make it all go away.
    It sounds expensive, but he is buying the highest quality, like millionaires often do. I don't think he is making a boatload on the supplements and other products.
    I won't be buying fancy olive oil because I am allergic to olive polyphenols anyway. I take many supplements, and have made many other changes since I got my first labs at 50, and saw there were 16 markers out of wack. I was a little shocked. I ate plenty of vegetables, never smoked or drank. Did not eat much fried stuff. Anyway, down to 5. One of those was not originally tested and is a redundancy to verify that one is actually bad. Another is actually close to optimal if "optimal" corresponds with all cause mortality. None-the-less, I am serious about getting a clean bill of health, and everything close to optimal. I don't intend to slack on any blood marker.
    Not sure what elicited an attack on men. I did not follow that part.
