Cassuttus Tshirt when your bird hit maturity at 3 to 4 years old. Does it become more territorial and attached to just one person? I’m planning on buying one as a family pet but all the people I meet at a bird shops discourages from buying one because of their wild nature. All my kids are teen agers already. They say they can turn on you and become wilder when they hit maturity at 3 or 4 years old. Did you experience that with your birds?
@@olygarcia5943 - Hello, Oly. We have a male white belly, and he's about 5 now. He's a blast, but is definitely a "headstrong" animal, and commonly tests his boundaries. We've had birds before, and know how to handle his tests. It's important that if you have one inclined to test you, that you handle him in the proper way for him to always know he is not the alpha animal, or he will potentially become bossy / "aggressive" (just their way of exerting their dominance). You can't let them think that they are the boss (like many kinds of animals). I've heard and antecdotally seen female caiques are less dominant and easier to handle. Generally speaking, they are "perpetual 2 yr olds", that really require much attention. They will bond strongly with you and others in the family - probably having a favorite, but wanting to be with everyone at the same time (they seem to like "the flock" being together) . I highly recommend getting a hatchling to strengthen that bond, although it requires a frequent feeding schedule with an eyedropper (possibly every 4 hrs? I forget). I'd have to say they are probably not good for a first time bird owner, as they can get quite "fiesty" when they mature, which some equate with being aggressive /mean/unfriendly, but it's not really - just doing what birds do to determine their "pecking order" to see who is the boss. In summary, they are a real joy and laugh-out-loud funny, but sometimes a test of your patience as well. Good luck!
@@rashasarandah1695 Larry Cohen's post is on point, and says a lot of things I would have said. And if the kids are old enough to know how to handle and treat the bird, they should be fine with kids. Anyway, take all this with a grain of salt, it is all anecdotal from living with a single caique for 15 or so years now. Like people, they all have different personalities.

Thanks and hope to see more videos some day!
