A fun thing that really shows how big Sabaton are in Poland: After a show in Poland (can´t remember wich town though) in the relaxroom behind stage, their tour manager came in and said they had a visitor and they needed to see him. Well in came archbishop Głódź of Poland and presented them a gift from their treasury. An original officer's saber from the times of the Second Polish Republic.

Hello everyone on this beautiful morning. The song is about the Polish Hussars but the battle that the song is about took place in Vienna, Austria. The Polish Hussars came to the rescue of Vienna, there were 20,000 of them and it was the largest cavalry charge in the history of mankind. Never before had anyone led such a powerful cavalry. In their songs Sabaton sings only about heroes, battles and real events and that's why everyone loves this band... because it allows these historical events to continue to live on.

Actually it was only 3,000 Hussars, the other 17,000 in the final charge was a mixture of HRE horseman and polish aligned Tartars that would wear green sprigs in their hats to distinguish them from the ottoman tartars however it was still the Hussars that lead from the front with King Sobieski leading them as they crashed into the retreating ottoman forces

So this battle, the 2nd Siege of Vienna, and their subsequent rescue by the Polish Winged Hussars was the inspiration for Tolkien when he wrote the Battle of Pelenor Fields for The Return of the King.

Also weird to think that there was more Winged Hussars than there were Rohirrim, 6,000 compared to 18,000 I think

Tolkien was inspired by the charge of the Polish Hussars, which is why we have the scene in The Lord of the Rings where the Rohirrim charge at dawn... it's literally like the Battle of Vienna.

ehhh thats a bit of a stretch powerful sure but pikemen would totally negate and we know early firearms were often paired with them and the ottomans at the time just didn't have a lot of pikes as I assume Vienna their target didn't have a ton of Calvary the ottomans had many but it was light cav not a match for the armored hussars but also they were caught by surprise they never had time to get in a defensive position and gun them down they were good and strong but not magic and in reality they likely didn't even charge anyone unless they were running if they had pistols using them is much safer though still leaves them open to gunfire but at least not pikes and spears

sabaton teaching history with music. I bet you can tell me what month the polish helped free vienna from hhe ottoman siege after this.
sane with final stand, about ghf sacking of rome in 1527 when a few (147) brave men from the Swiss guards delayed the 1000+ invading horde so a detachment (42 men) could escort the pope to safety.

A couple of facts about the battle: it was the single largest cavalry charge in history, with 18,000 horsemen participating. It was the inspiration for the Battle of Minas Tirith from Tolkien's LOTR was inspired by these events. The battle was so desisive, historians generally credit it with leading to the eventual collapse of the Ottoman empire. To this day, Poles like to say they saved the entire continent from Islam. And they might actually be right. Austria repayed Poland for saving its country by anexxing third of Poland a hundred years later, effectively taking her indepenedence.

its Poland and other nations coming to help Austria
Also, if you've seen the Lord of the Rings, its implied that the charge of the Rohirrim at Minas Tirith was based on this battle. A huge outnumbering enemy force besieging a vital city is defeated by the aid of a huge cavalry charge from neighbouring nations.....the similarities are there

You should firstly watch sabaton history video on this topic to get the history background and then the song itself. P.S. every sabaton video has it's reference in sabaton history video, since all of their songs are related to war history events. I can add a direct link to such video if you willing to watch it, and i personaly think that viewers will also find it interesting.
    Cheers!
