Man loved the valiant brothers! In 74 I was 10 and saw them a few times ! Even got their autographs! 5-8-74 - They won the belt's! RIP JOHNNIE WE MISS YOU ! 🙏🙏🙏
Saw Johnny and Jimmy in 74 at Boston garden against Tony garea and Dean Ho. They were Larger than Life and they could really bring the heat. I was just a 10 year old kid and I will never forget it. Rest in peace
McKnight Road north of Pittsburgh. If you saw it, you’d understand why he got hit there.
I remember the Valiant Brothers in Georgia in the 70s. Johnny was so good on the microphone. He once said that Ken Mantell had been a lifeguard at a car wash. He was so funny.
Tom was a High School friend, we had some great times back then, funny guy
If Andre the Giant and a bird switched brains the bird would fly backwards! - Johnny Valiant
Don't forget they had the monograms on their trunks like "Mothers Natures Showcase", "Apple Pie", and "Thump".....they were wayyyyyy ahead of their time
Johnny got his start from Bruno, since they both lived in Pittsburg. Johnny was a funny class act. Always the showman.
Loved his promos. RIP to Johnny Valiant
Don't forget about the best blonde headed tag team ever the mulkey brothers LOL!!!!!
I remember reading in the Apter mags from early 74 that The Valiants beat Bruno and Bruiser by a countout and they were awarded the belts. Interesting way to drop the belts. In regards to "Fridays", "The Golden Boys" were Larry David and Mark Blankfield.
RIP Johnny V
IM SO LUCKY WHEN I WAS SMALL JIMMY AND JOHNNY LET DOWN ON THE KAYFABE IN THE PHILADELPHIA ARENA ONE SATURDAY TO LET MY GRANDPOP TAKE A FEW PICTURES OF ME WITH THEM AND I CHERISH THEM. I CAN REMEMBER AFTER WE TOOK THE PICTURES JOHNNY SAYING TO ME HEY LITTLE DADDY DONT BE SELLING THEM AND THEN JIMMY SAYING YEAH IF YOU DO SELL THEM WE GET HALF. I CHERISH THESE PICTURES.
THAT IS AWESOME . I WAS PROBABLY AROUND 1O YEARS OLD WHEN I FIRST STARTED WATCHING WWWF AND THE VALIENTS WERE THE DUDES. GREAT DAYS WRESTLING WAS SO MUCH BETTER BACK THEN. GREAT DAYS
Johnny had the mic skills and he was great at it.
jimmy valiant is still out there doing shows
i agree when i saw them the first time in the wwf everything jimmy said was right on and to a 8 year old it was so fkn cool.oh and they had the belts which made them even look better, miss those days.
Actually saw him work at the old Boston Garden when he was still John L. Sullivan. Was promoted as a Bruno protege so would on occasion be rescued by Bruno from the current top monster heel.
There was also the Hollywood Blondes in the 70s. Buddy Roberts and Jerry Brown.
JP JPJP 90s 90s to steve austin and brain pilman
Mike Enos and Wayne Bloom worked a similar...ish gimmick in the wwf back in the early 90's.
Fun fact: When Enos and Bloom were in the AWA as the Destruction Crew, they were managed by Johnny V in 1989.
del 75 HEY ASSHOLE YOUR TRYING TO COMPARE THE DESTRUCTION CREW WITH TGE VALIANT BROTHERS. YOU NEED A LOBOTOMY
spectrumlocalb191: I almost missed this. Somebody actually tried to put the Destruction Crew (Mean Mike Enos and Wayne “The Train” Bloom) in the same category as the Valiant Brothers???
Wow 😯, he must have never seen the Valiants in the 70s. They were headliners everywhere they wrestled and mainstays of the old WWWF. They are in the WWE Hall of Fame because they were true originals. The Destruction Crew, a remnant of the dying days of the old AWA, never managed to generate much heat or excitement as the Beverly Brothers in the WWE. They were mid-card enhancement talent during most of their short run.
The last great bleach blonde team was the Beverly Bros . They were unfortunately totally under utilized. Had they been around in the territory days they could have been very big.
Oh my God Jim. That imatation was spot on. Laughing my ass off.
The Valiants were over and knew how to get the heat.
The WWA Title match between Bruiser & Bruno and the Valiant Brothers was a 2 out of 3 falls title match. Bruno and Bruiser each lost a fall. And by "lost" I mean there was a screwjob finish where they were not cleanly pinned.
The whole situation with the tag titles was screwy at the time though.
8/24/73 The tag titles were "held up" after a match between Bruiser and Bruno & Ladd and the Baron (champions). i.e. nobody lost.
9/22/73 Bruiser beats Ladd in a solo cage match for the WWA tag titles.
1/5/74 Valiant Brothers get the win over Bruiser and Bruno in a 2 out of 3 falls match. (They win both falls by screwy finishes not involving a pin) They win the titles.
1/11/74 Vailent Brothers beat Bruiser & Luis Martinez at Detroit to win the WWA Tag title (again). For this match, they pretended the Bruno/Bruiser match had never happened.
Unfortunately I never met nor do I have any memories of Johnny Valiant. I remember handsome Jimmy Valiant from his USWA days, and I had the pleasure of meeting Jamming Jake when I worked at a store where he would sign autographs at. He was there at least 3 times, and every single time I set up his booth and would talk to him. If his brother was even as half as nice as he was, then he was a good man. I feel so sorry for his family and friends. In my humble opinion, I believe that the Valiant family should be recognized by the WWE. Yes, they may not have done a lot for the WWE when they were there, but it is what they all did for the professional wrestling business as a whole.
Do you not understand kayfabe? None of the Valiants were related and none of them were named Valiant.
I understand kayfabe. I know they are not really brothers. They knew each other, and let them be billed as brothers. When that happens and you met one of them and thought they are a good person, chances are the other ones are also good people.
With his passing now every match at WrestleMania 1 includes at least 1 person who is no longer with us. RIP Johnny.
At the moment, the only match with the participants still alive is Sheik and Volkoff vs IRS and Barry Windham. Only their respective managers are dead (Blassie and Cap. Albano)
Abe Wallard Uh....
What?
@@notchinham316 now it's 3 cause Nikolai's now passed away
I know. At the time of my first comment, Volkoff was still alive.
Good choice, I watched those guys religiously
first wrestling card I went too memorial day 1987 Louisville gardens saw him wrestle brutus the barber beefcake
No talk of Jerry?
he came on because jimmy messed up his back but jerry rarely spoke.
the valient brothers won on a count out believe it or not. against bruno and bruiser a count out.
Lol handsome random vs nature boy random, the great bleach blond randoms, I love wrestling
A man who does not look both ways before crossing is a fool.
MisterJonesification and the road he was struck on, McKnight road, is a 4 lane, very dangerous highway
MisterJonesification a man who comments on another man's misfortune is a asshole !
Tim Nowell *an
MisterJonesification a person dissing someone death is a ASSHOLE
I’ve been married so long that I don’t look when I cross the street 🤔😝
Sorry Corny, but your impersonation sounds more like old Fatty Rhodes than the Variants. They also worked the AWA and did some hilarious promos with Mean Gene. But I don't think old Verne really knew how to use them. Verne frequently made the mistake of thinking that what he liked was what the marks would like.
Stfu idiot. Smfh
