Watching from Old Harbour Jamaica. I have a failed picture of an KLM 14 Super Electra 'TROPIAAL' . 1943 it made a crash landing at the US army air base Vernam Field back in 1943 but not one was hurt nor was the plane badly damage.
+kevin heming KLM's first 747 order was placed on March 7th, 1967. The first of seven 747-200s from this order was delivered in early 1971. So yeah, they didn't "get" the 747 until 1971, but going by the lingo used in this vid they did in fact acquire the 747 in 1967.
+MacFreaks There again to be pedantic, acquire means to get ownership of, so they ordered them in '67 and acquired them in '71. They had been in service for 2 years when I joined KLM in '73. I retired from there this year after 43 years!
+kevin heming You're right... in a way. KLM did not take physical ownership of a 747 until 1971, but they did put down the order in 1967 -thereby gaining the right to delivery of a 747 later on. In effect they took ownership of an intangible asset. Kind of like when you order a car, you put down (part) of your money without receiving an actual good. But a car -somewhere, as of yet undelivered- is still yours, even though you don't have the key to it. You have the legal right to delivery, and have therefore bought a car. Substitute car with plane and the same idea applies.

Best times in aviation history, everything was so new for the time and people so polite and well dress .
I960 I flew KLM DC7C Schipol to Idlewild, but can't remember how long it took. Can anyone tell me?
Echt vet om te zien hoe Schiphol der vroeger uit zag. Je ziet ook die taxi-weg over de A2, KLM nummer 1!
KLM didn't get the 747's till 1971 not 1967.
