Nice vid, but missing the cargo 8 ;)
This DC 8 - 63 & Dc - 61 , Reminds me of my Childhood years from 1967 - 1975 flying frequently from Amsterdam to Jakarta many times
Flew in this aircraft in April 1969 from Accra to Amsterdam. Fondest Memories
Took PH-DEF ATH-AMS in October 1984. Still have pics and the flight log, she was named Henry Hudson. I think it may have originated in Harare that day.
Never got to see a DC-8 irl. I wish i could but my only chances to see them are NASA 's DC-8 and the ones in the museums. You're lucky to see a KLM DC-8
I remember sitting near back, so I was deprived of the sound fest during TO in the front cabins. I also remember this seemed to be a time of decline for the KLM product. The plane was rather dingy and the food not that great. They had business class seats with a tone of legroom but still 6-across. I had booked the same flight the year before but they substituted a DC-9. The pilot told me they were actually using the -63s as extra sections to New York in 1983. I wish I could have ridden on that one!
cheers
Joined KLM Royal Dutch Airlines Cargo Department at London Heathrow airport in July 1971 aged 16 years.
My first DC-8-63 flight was in October 1971 to Schiphol airport, Amsterdam.
Beautiful aircraft and very comfortable.
i flew from Joh-burg to AmS 25 3 1966 in Dc-8 when i was 7 yrs old for staying in Netherlands. Still living in NL
nice memories! Africa, Middle East and the Dutch Caribbean in their so called 'royal class'; no flat bed but comfy and great catering and service
They should have continue with with the Dc-8
Justin Seenaraine True, but any aircraft can retire anytime
Oh ok
Yes I wish some airliners stil use it, but due to high fuel consumption and a lot maintenance work, that’s why they decide to retire old aircraft
My last flight in a DC8 was from BIAK to Tokio @ Anchorage-Alaska @ Iceland to Amsterdam Schiphol - Oost .... 29 hours The Netherlands Nieuw-Guinea 1962 ...
First time I flew on KLM Dc8 was. 18 December 1974 from Cairo to Amsterdam .i was 11 years old .
Reminds me of my childhood as well. Flew as a passenger with the KLM DC-8 -63 in its final years of service a few times between 1982 and 1984 on the route from Amsterdam to Dar es Salaam. My favorite plane, with the great big windows and beautiful shape. Then came the A310 on the AMS-DAR route, also memorable. But the DC-8 beats them all!
I was wondering does anybody knows the klm routes from end 1970's?
Wow
I like the Blue top livery of klm
Please do it
I love this aircraft so muchhhhh
however the 707 is still the winner for me :P
Ich auch
I live in Netherlands

Gracio Boyjoel Already made it :) ua-cam.com/video/CZCeT8LqWJo/v-deo.html
As has Elmauriplatense.
... what about KLM B747-200?
Gracio Boyjoel Made by elmauriplatense just like what Ibirdball said
Elmauriplatense did the whole 747 series of KLM - 747-200, -300 and 400.
DC-8 or 707?
David 747-400 DC-8
DC-8 has a nose that slopes down and a distinctive large eyebrow window, the 707 has two smaller eyebrow windows, a pointed nose and a forward-pointing on the tail.
Ibirdball I remember it this way, the 707 has the same nose as the 737.
Yep :)
I Don't know. I like both.
