- A look at the October 2020 Oris Diver Sixty-Five 'Maxi' Topper Edition and the two watches that led to its design.

I really do not enjoy hearing about limited editions, though Oris is one of the few I get excited about. Mostly because of the charities they support through the limited editions.
For the watch itself I prefer the "original". Instead of faux-tina, I think of the yellow-hue numerals as a pallette choice.
I visited Topper's for the first time recently, and it was my most pleasant AD experience. They asked if they could help me and I said I just wanted to look around, and they let me just look around. Nobody hovered or pestered. I just got to look at a bunch of cool watches in my own time at my own pace. Perfection.
Best watch reviews on UA-cam, especially for the higher end types. Keep them coming!
Thanks so much.
glad to see you getting more active; would love to see a 65 in 38mm. I've been waiting for years and they release every size in between ha
I recently got the Maxi from Rob at Topper, and it hasn't left my wrist since. I'm wearing it on the tropic-style strap, and it's probably my favorite rubber strap of all time.
I love the divers 65 so much that I got all three standard colorways 👍🏻
I never understood the date wheel on the Diver 65. It's such a better and cleaner looking with without a date.
Doesn't bother me at all. It's placed nicely and almost stealthily which is not distracting
@@Wvk5zc I agree. It's pretty unobtrusive.
Great video man! I hope Oris will make a similar regular production model in 26mm or 40mm with the same clear, non faux patina lume! And available in EU! :D
Whennnn ?
I hope they release another version that looks the same, but has Oris' new calibre. I missed this LE run, but I love the no-date and orange accents :)
The 40mm topper edition is my divers 65 endgame watch and it’s so bloody rare…. So beautiful. Have currently 40mm version with deep blue dial and black bezel with the applied markers, used to own the original re release. Love the funky numerals, but maaaaan the topper with the steel bezel teeth, no date, improved text and orange lume pip and seconds hand really make it my absolute favorite.
If they reissued the maxi topper white numerals in 38 or 40mm good lord take my money.
How do you keep coming out with banging videos? Thanks, loved this as well and I'm right there with you on not preferring faux patina and vintage reissue/homages
Too kind.
I prefer the std version. I prefer the smaller size and the faux patina. I’ve heard it’s been discontinued though.
It has, I contacted Oris a couple months back and they let me know that they’ve phased out production and are only selling the remaining stock.
@@rafayz9033 Noooo!!! My only hope is that it gets rereleased with the new in-house movement. I think that could be quite likely.
@@nkonig1 Thats what I was also thinking. it reminds me of the transition hamilton made from the ETA-2801 to the H50 in their mechanical watches (even though an H50 is just an modified 2801). the point is, Hamilton updated the movement and kept the aesthetic the same which is the same thing Oris will logically due to keep up with rising prices and competition from other established brands as well as many microbrands that are popping up (i.e Halios, Nodus, etc.).
I will say, though, that the tone changes when one considers the fact that you can pick up the base Oris divers 65 in 40mm (shown in the video) for close to 1-1.2k either used or on the grey market. Now the comparison is between a 2.5k limited edition and a 1.2k base model, and theres no amount of BGW9 lume that can convince me to pay the difference.
It also makes more sense to me to pay the after market price for a SW-200 movement because thats typically what they tend to go for. Another point is the relative ease of serviceability of the SW-200 compared to the in-house movement (if Oris makes a Diver's 65 with it) which will have to be sent back to Oris. This, in general, is why i dont care much for "in-house" unless we're talking an Omega Master Co-Axial Chronometer in which case the tech specs can justify the cost.
Overall, I think the standard model is great. I have 2 actually and am going to put one up for sale soon.
@@rafayz9033 I totally agree. I’m not really bothered about third party movements. It’s only really a selling point for watches >5k and watches at that price are a bit too rich for my blood.
I prefer the one with fauxtina markers. But I know a lot of people frown on it lol
Me too. 40mm is also better. No need to lug extra metal around.
Me three!
This watch roll looks awesome- where did you purchase/what brand?
Super good stuff brotha, loving the vibe on the edit. Real informative too.
Thanks!

Great Video; super fun watch; great daily grinder. Toppers is Great; check them out if you get to the Bay Area. However, the ISO water resistance is limited to just a skin diver certification and the Selita movement could be improved at this price point. I would have preferred a modified ETA 2892 over a 2824 clone. The charitable cause is great; and the watch has great sex appeal.
Big fan of Topper. I live 700 miles north, but still like to visit the store once a year.
A great looking watch! I too prefer more modern, less vintage looking watches.
Nice but I still prefer the original reiteration
Not a fan of the watch, but that song is a banger
maybe make a "mini" next time guys...
You are underrated
Whats the name of the song in the end?

What a beauty i love it
Love
Did you just said here like Cartman? 😂
😉
you know you have fans when you have likes on a 8:33 video within a few minutes of posting it
I'm a lucky guy.
Nice video, thanks. Watch is good looking, just not for me. The bracelet taper is too drastic for me, and the numerals look maybe too retro. The original 65 feels too light. Great watch, just not for me.
Respect
i do admire a no date diver
Great video! But ugh, collaborations with jewelers. How does a brand endorse the idea of someone else elevating and improving upon their craft, especially with such a recent design. I'd feel fairly underappreciated if I were the Oris product team. When have we reached the point when the retailers are more in touch with the customer than the brand? There are always compromises across the design cycle of a product, but Oris should stand behind their design decisions and incrementally update in house. Moving a date window, changing some typography, revising proportions - a little table stake - I don't think a big ceremony is really needed.
