One of my bucket list goals is to attend one of Dr. Starkey's lectures. I always learn so much from him, and from the questions of the audience. Hoping I can make the trip to the UK soon.

The point about Henry being prudent and using the crown domain to neutralize Parliament is one of the most brilliant insights of his reign I've ever heard, from as always, the most brilliant of its authorities.

Yet Henry's use of Parliament to grant him the title of Supreme Head on Earth of the Church of England would serve to empower Parliament at the expense of future monarchs, contributing to the civil wars of the 1640s

Prof Starkey: there's a great book on Henry VIII, "In the Lion's Court: Power, Ambition and Sudden Death in the Reign of Henry VIII" by Derek Wilson. Henry was the Sun King (well before that French fellow) and the personalities in his court were an amazing constellation deserving of a series of videos by you.

As Mirabeau observed, considering Robespierre, "This man will go far, for he believes everything he says."

Brilliant! Is there a way to see Dr. Starkey's upcoming lectures? I plan to visit the UK in December and would love to attend in person.

Bygging Monastry, Nr Granborough, Buckinghamshire didn't earn the crown a penny. It was given to my 11 x great grandfather Benedict Lee as a retirement gift. Edward VI was apparently, generous to his closest guards.

Was any mention made of Henry's Act of 1545?
    'In Restraint of Usury.'

Margaret Wyatt, lady in waiting to Anne Boleyn, is famous for being with the Queen at her execution. Margaret Wyatt, was in truth, Lady Lee, wife of Sir Anthony Lee, a courtier. Sir Anthony's father was Sir Robert Lee, who when becoming a widower, marries the widow of Sir Robery Knollys. Sir Robert's step-son was Sir Francis Knollys.
Sir Anthony's son Henry, become's Queen Elizabeth I's jousting Champion. He becomes Master of Arms at the Tower of London. He becomes one of Sir Francis Walshingham's men in Europe. Sir Henry Lee entertains Queen Elizabeth at Ditchley Park and commissions a portrait of the Queen, called 'The Ditchley portrait'. Sir Henry Lee becomes the first commoner to be a Garter Knight.
Sir Robert Lee's second wife Lettice Knollys nee Pennystone has a son Benedict, who becomes Captian of the bodyguard to Henry VIII and then Edward VI. Benedict leads the party to fetch Anne of Cleeves from Calais.
What puzzles me is, in all the film and TV shows, the name Lee is never mentioned.

It’s much better than the state being under the thumb of the church, as it was before, and as most of Europe continued for centuries afterward. Religious authorities, whether popes, bishops or emirs, have no business interfering in secular affairs.

we went from Kings that spent too much to the parliament that spends too much. Seems to me that nothing really changed but the amount of people getting rich off of government so what's the difference in having a monarchy? It's not like we have freedom anyway.

Finally, a YT video with someone talking sense. Everyone is protesting, blocking freeways, etc., crying about the poor Palestinians here. They have only their own home-grown terrorists, Hamas, to thank for the conditions they’re suffering. What did they expect Israel to do, give them all hugs?

I have not had the time yet to watch the video. But, if it is indeed a Q & A about Henry VIII, then my question is:
    - If he were teleported to the present how would he be handling the UK's current mass immigration, and prevailing woke issues ?

Let bygones be bygones Henry blew the money fundraising the palaces of England in 1549 Henry was blowing the loot on his own demands

Whereas I believe Caesar blew a lot of money on games for the people and fine robes for himself it was with an eye for making a name for himself in Rome. A calculated and relatively small price to pay for adulation and status.

The UK is a Protestant confederation to this day, not a country.

Majority of its citizens aren’t Christians. And what do you even mean by “Protestant confederation”? The U.K. is a country whether it’s Protestant or Catholic doesn’t change that.

A brilliant political leader - but a traitor to his own people and the source of many of modern Britain's problems.
Because of Henry, Cromwell was possible. It amazes me that Cromwell is held up as some kind of great Briton when he allowed Jews back into England, gave them equal status ultimately to Christians and set us on a path of secularisation that has resulted in us being ruled over by Jews, Muslims and Hindus today.
