    Do you follow a specific process when sitting down to create your low-content book covers and interiors? Let me know in the comments below, and thanks for watching!

    Excellent advice, especially printing out a copy of the cover at home.
    The only thing that would have made this video better would be the old "show, don't tell" method. Newbies like myself don't have a clue what you are talking about when it comes to font families, Serif vs San Serif, etc. Another really important tip that I did not fully appreciate or understand when I embarked on this learning curve was defining the target audience. It can make or break one's publishing efforts. Thank you for your designing insights--I, for one, would be lost without them!

    Cover design is where I struggle. There are a lot of great tips here for me to put to practice, but my favorite is the thumbnail sketch technique. You always have great information!

      Hi Stephanie, you're not alone! It takes a lot of practice to get great at design, so just go easy on yourself and give yourself the grace to experiment. Take in lots of inspiration, and try to have fun! I love the thumbnail part of the process as well; it really helps to nail down a strong layout and experiment quickly. Keep me posted on your progress!

    I use Creative Fabrica and Vecteezy both based on your other videos. Thanks so much for all the great advice. Noted the 300dpi rule. Thanks. 😊

    Like you, I am a writer. I discovered the low content books creation with your videos. I started with meal planners since I have experience in creating magazines. As I uploaded it on Amazon, I wondered how to deal with multiple creations of meal planners and my ISBN numbers. Do I have to cum up with new titles every time? Vogue magazine or Cosmopolitan do not but they have volume numbers, months and years to distinguish one from the other. So how do I do it? Thank you for sharing all this information with us.

    Wonderful step by step guidance. Do you always use sayings/fonts on your covers? Most people I know are always disappointed when they find an amazing image/pattern and reject it because of the phrase.

    Thank you for the video. Very informative ☺️What fonts would you recommend for the children activity book both cover and interior?

    • @RachelHarrisonSund
      @RachelHarrisonSund  4 роки тому +2

      Hi Ania! There are many, many, many fonts out there that would be suitable for children's books, and it would depend on the look you were going for, such as blocky, whimsical, outlined, etc. It's best to go and browse some font sites so you can see what might work best with your design. You can check out Google Fonts, MyFonts, Creative Fabrica, just to name a few, or just Google "children's fonts".

    Hi Rachel. Good advice (yet again). I'm just starting out on low content, but I'm trying to automate pretty much everything using Excel & Word (I produce my graphics in Inkspace). In my day job I used to utilise a lot of automation within MS Office using VBA, and Im trying to lever these skills to save me time without compromising on quality. So, my process is to make covers using graphics I already have (from a kids' colouring book I recently published) by storing all the cover data in an Excel table. Then, background code loops through this data and creates the PDF covers via a link to Word templates. I'm also currently looking at automating the uploads to KDP, which certainly appears feasible. My rationale is to create a decent number of titles consistently and quickly with high quality. Time will tell if it works.

      Hi Trevor, wow, that sounds like quite the system! Just ensure that you're focused on quality rather than quantity, taking the time to ensure each individual cover gets the attention it deserves. Let me know how it goes!

    This may be a silly question - and possibly in the wrong section - but can the same cover be used if a series of books is being done, almost as a type of brand? For example, a lined journal with the same cover but different interior to a weekly planner? Also, can the same cover and interior be used if the book size is different like having a matching 6x9 and smaller pocket-sized version? Or is it just common sense not risk trying it?

    Thank you again for this great information! I 'd like to ask, if I want to use a Canva image (photo) for a LC book cover, either enlarged to be used as kind of a backround for the cover or of smaller size just to cover some part of it, and the actual image size is 96 dpi, when downloading the final design as Pdf print, will this automatically change to 300 dpi?

    Hello Rachel and thanks for your video:
    I have a Issue with software KDP. It is showing no sense result. I am scared to work hard to create a LCB based in its results and finally see that was no market in there because KDP Numbers was wrong. (Sometimes amazon searches are +5000 and 1 day later

      Hi Manu, are you taking about Publisher Rocket? If so, keep in mind that all keyword research tools provide estimates only, so you're never going to get an accurate number. If you're seeing discrepancies that large, I'd email them to let them know. I know they had a bug recently that they've been working to resolve, and that could be what's causing your issue.

    I am struggling to find what works and what does not. the 80 / 20 rule . out of 500 books only 20% sell . Imagine knowing what that 20% is and just focus on that

    Have just read ingram is cracking down on low content books - do you think this will mean the same for KDP?

    • @RachelHarrisonSund
      @RachelHarrisonSund  4 роки тому +4

      Hi Chris, any cracking down will be directed toward those that are uploading hundreds or thousands of low-quality books at a time, abusing the category system by placing their books in irrelevant categories in an attempt to gain bestseller status, or otherwise taking advantage of the system and creating a poor or misleading customer experience. Tighter regulations would be good news to those that are taking the time to create well-researched, visually appealing books that real customers are actively searching for. If you're playing by the rules there should be no need for alarm.

      @@RachelHarrisonSund Thanks for the reply Rachel. A little concerned hearing about people having their accounts terminated lately. I have around 300 books, I had the interiors custom made for just me but I have used the same interior on multiple products, I guess around 10 per niche with different covers. Would you recommend removing these to avoid account termination? Thanks

    I usually like your videos but this was ALL talk, no show. I thought I was going to see your process. It’s good advice but .....maybe make the talking head ones half as long or do timestamps? Just saying.
