Whiscash is one of my fav pokemon, wasnt able to get the shiny or hundo barboach during spotlight hour but i did manage to get a rank 9 whiscash for great league. Also i thought legendary shinies were guaranteed catch on the first throw? I guess not in the case of GBL rewards now though

Is the CP buddy boost applied in league if the whiscash is not set as his buddy?
No. Only BB boost is applied.
Wouldn't it have helped slightly to set the Whiscash as your buddy to make it level 51?
Yes but I don't want to waste my swap to a Pokemon that is already my best buddy😁
