The first lead Gundam from the series 0083 Stardust Memories. Piloted by Kou Uraki until it gets upgraded in space into the GP01FB. As one of the oldest MG models, how does it stack up to newer kits?

They really should make a 2.0 of this kit, it would be awesome it it looked like the RG but at 1/100 scale
The GP01 was the first gunpla I ever built. I also built the GP01-FB and I like it better, but I keep going back to this one to touch up the details as my building skills improved over time.
That looks pretty sharp after it's all lined and painted a little bit. I'm tempted to pick up this kit now instead of waiting around to see if they make a 2.0 version like I originally planned.
I remember seeing this kit in stores back when it came out......god I'm old....
You kids and your new fangled master grades. Getting the old kits lets you appreciate what the new kits can do.
Plus, the Full Burnier version is much better in my opinion. It's got more parts, a few gimmicks and it's a little taller than the normal version.
I appreciated the little skit at the end haha! Starting watching Stardust Memory and wanted to snag the Gundams.
That core fighter transformation was pretty scary. Must have been fun for the guys at bandai. I can't imagine Kou doing a midair docking like Amuro, he would have fallen out of the sky before it was even half complete.
@Kandene but it was designed to include a core fighter that could be swapped out with the panoramic cockpit. even though this option was available, it is safe to assume the core fighter never existed
I have both the Full burner and the Normal GP01. I like the GP01 better. The Full Burner feels less solid around the top of the core block when built. The add-ons for the Full Berner don't wow me. It's not enough to make a significant change in the look.
I loved building this kit and I love the way it turned out, definitely my favorite gundam. My only problem is that the shoulders and head have to be put on top of the folded up core fighter as the chest. He just doesn't want to stay plugged into the folded up core fighter so when I'm trying to pose him his shoulders and face just plop off. Fairly annoying.

I actually like the GP01's design a lot because its fairly simple yet fits Kou's personality quite perfectly. Since there is no Ver. 2.0 yet, I might just buy this for the sake of collecting atleast one suit from every series.
I loled at the end~ Id wanna see a MG 1/100 Dendrobium one day...
It's been over 10 years, and these Stardust Memory MG Gundams have yet to even get 2.0 or Ver.Ka releases. They really should pick up the slack and give us MG 2.0 of Zephyranthes and Full Burnern Zephyranthes. I mean, come on, there is a Core Gundam II based on this guy's Core Fighter II coming real soon in Gundam Build Divers Re:RISE, so...
The HG dendrobium already cost more than a PG......I cant imagine what the price will it be for the MG version.
man, i wish i could get this master grade, because i love the gp01 and the unique way that the core fighter folds up -but hobby link japan says its discontinued :(
so if the Alex Gundam and the GP Gundams are the sons of RX-78-2 does that make those 4 Gundams the daddy Gundams

Ah, the GP01/01Fb and GP02A were designed by Shoji Kawamori.
I remember my GP-03 falling apart, my dad bought the thing at a garage sale, though it was unopened the idiot kept the thing in a garage, warping most of the larger bits ==
It looks like Bandai really tried to make this a good model, but because of their limits of technology at the time, it just didn't work out. I have the Fb version, and it has a lot of the same issues as this one does. I was pretty disappointed, as it was only my 2nd or 3rd MG model. At the time, I didn't know or consider the differences between newer and older kits. I really hope we get a ver 2.0 line of 0083 kits.

Robert, the gp01 you have there, i have a question... Is it really WHITE or a bit yellowish white? I cant really tell it from the camera. My friend has one, the white it comes is a little bit yellowish.

while that may be true. unfortunately Bandai so far only has come out with V 2.0 for the kit that were more popular.

good video, How many models of gundam do you have? and how much money do you have whith all of them?
actually, there are 2 versions of the GP01 FB one is a normal which i think will be pretty bad and another is a COATING VERSION so i guess the coating version will be better
Ive ordered this and the GM Custom,which was my first gunpla. Both will be in my mail next week. The only problem is i dont have a gundam marker and ive seen what it looks like without panel lining. Could i use something as a substitute for a gundam marker? These two are my favorite mobile suit designs(third being the Re-GZ) and i want to make them look good with what ive got.
use a fine tip marker, like a .020 or something. go to a hobby shop and you'll find one. I use that more than my gundam marker tbh

Prime, is it possible to change the full Burnier into the normal GP01?

Woah hold on a second GP03 was built without a core figter.
it looks like an old version of gundamn impulse because of the yellow arrow
the coating version is the worst considering it costs way to much and you have to fix all the non-gold plated nub marks.
the FB version has alot of extra armor and is kind of floppy.
i have all 4 MG GP's, and the 03 is by far the best.
