  • On a wet Sunday morning in January 2022, me and my friend Elliot Richards set off to test the Polestar 2 performance version - to see if it could beat the bullet train on a race to Hangzhou. Find out who wins in this first episode of its kind for China Driver and my Metro / transport videos.
About our collaboration: China Driver (Elliot) loves cars and loves driving.
Here is his version of the same event: • We RACED a Polestar 2 ...
We have both been living in China for some time and want to share public transport information and electric cars from China to a global audience. We hope you enjoy watching the video as much as we enjoyed making it ! Any suggestions for other similar races you would like me to see us try next, pop it in the comments.
*This is not a paid promotion, neither the manufacturers or the rental company paid us for making this video.

Very interesting race. Actually I did the same race in 2012, I took the bullet train and my boss drove his car. I arrived in Hangzhou earlier as well.

This is a very interesting content, if you try to upload this video in Chinese platform like bilibili, the views must be pretty high. Because I guess Chinese audience like contents like this. And I recommand you to give a title like this "老外体验上海-杭州开车和高铁哪个快", you probably can get 1M views. 😂😂😂Anyway, take care, I know this is a tough period of time for anyone who are now living in Shanghai. Hope that Shanghai can resume to its propersity.

哈哈,This one is very interesting! As a metro fan myself, I also like car trips to the cities several hundred kms around mine. But for any longer range, I'll definitely choose the HSR + metro option.

@6:56 I think that was actually the train tim was on considering it was the same color and speed and the time would make sense too!

I have been enjoying your content for a couple of months now. This race was great too, it is nice to see that you are expanding your range of covered topics. I was wondering, since Eliot mentioned in his monologue in the car that you had to get a separate ticket in Hangzhou, are subway fare payment systems in China incompatible with each other? From what I recall, subways in both Japan and South Korea can take any smart transit card issued at any system within the country, is it not the case in China?

Thanks, my Shanghai metro card worked so I didn't need to get a different one, I just was not sure because I had not been on the Hangzhou system before, I absolutely should have captured using the card for the first time !

@@timmytumbler The card with China T-union mark can be used in most cities. But can’t get the preferential expect the city which issued the card.

@@timmytumbler well, if you ever do some Hangzhou metro video you can remedy that:) The city looked beautiful so I would definitely love to see more of it

Do you really need to be at the station that early?

    • @timmytumbler
      @timmytumbler  2 роки тому

Elliot's plan was to be early to help reduce traffic for him (didn't work !)

In china, check in time is 15 minutes before the departure, and will be closed 3-5minutes before departure.
And also need time for security checks and find the boarding gate.
So arriving at station 20-30miuntes before the departure time is fine.

When you compare means of transportation, you need to consider human fatigue and stress while driving. It is not easy to measure them. Taking trains is definitely more relaxing.

Maybe I should have been more clear, as in the notes, this video was actually shot in January 2022, before the lockdown.

The walking distance shall be within 1 or 2 km for a human being because this distance needs 10-20 minutes to finish for a human being.
