My husband was one of the medics on this call. We both worked for DeKalb Co. EMS back then and I'll never forget the call going out that day or him filming this episode. We still have the pay stub from when he got paid from Rescue 911!
Since i watched this episode when i was little, i never forgot this! Its been stuck with me for like, 20 years! Haven't seen it since...THANKS whoever put this on youtube!
It's been 34 years since this happened so Rufus is 37 and will be 38 in February, Kimberly is 38, Michelle is 44, and Jessica is 41. We hear this happened on a Wednesday so the date was December 27. At the time this happened I was living in Fountain Hills Arizona, which is outside of Phoenix, near Scottsdale. I was seven and my brother Andrew was five. When I saw Rufus get stabbed, I was really frightened. If Michelle hadn’t called for help, he wouldn’t be here today. I am sure Rufus thanked Michelle for her help. Children should never ever play with sharp knives or any sharp objects. I could tell by Michelle’s voice that she was pretty hysterical.
Wow, can't believe this episode is on youtube! I used to love this show when I was a kid, and this is the only episode that I really remember. haha, I like the part where she says, "STAY CALM, STAY CALM, HE'LL BE ALRIGHT..... I THINK." Glad he's ok.
The description says that a young boy is stabbed, so I think it's implicit that the segment will be intense to those who would find a stabbing disturbing.
The dispatcher is an angel we all know what it’s like to be new to a job an the feeling of not being ready but having to step up to the task at hand. And he did an amazing job in order to help someone in need ❤
This episode, combined with a similar one about scissors, nearly traumatized me as a kid. I had nightmares for a while, and to this day, I'm extremely paranoid about walking with sharp objects, and I don't let the kids I take care of carry them, at all.
For some reason I thought about this series last night. I asked someone else at work if they remembered it and they IMMEDIATELY said yeah and referred to this episode. I think EVERYONE remembers this episode. This goes to show something doesn't have to be graphic to leave a lasting impression. It's a shame shows like this aren't on anymore. Thank God, AMW is still on.
There are 2 segments: One- the boy jumps from the swing exclaiming "I'm a plane!" to try to jump over the path of where his grandma is mowing. He gets his leg mangled in the blade. The 2nd segment was when the boy runs down the grass bank, and his feet slip out from under him and slides under where the sister is mowing.
Just caught my 5 year old outside with scissors that his 7 year old sister gave him to open a popsicle. They've been told and told not to play with knives and scissors, and it reminded me of this episode. I remembered the impact that many of these shows had on me as a kid growing up, so I sat them down and let them watch. Then I asked them how terrible it would feel for one of their brothers or sisters to be hurt like that. I could see the shock in their eyes, and hopefully they finally got the picture. Many things I don't like about the situation the kids in the show were in, but we all make it to our 20s through a series of miracles. Shows like this can still make a difference and today it did.
Shawn West Yeah kids forget we have to reinforce and remind them constantly how anything can happen at any time and even seemingly small things sometimes can turn big and dangerous we don't wanna make them afraid of everything but we wanna make them aware and safe and yes God has hs hands on us that's the main reason my clumsy butt made it to 34 without permanent damage to myself LOL I just said yesterday kids are smart. But we must always remember the world is big
Those kids are amazingly cute! Rufus is just precious. And Michelle, wow. What a terrible burden of guilt to potentially have to carry around. But she's such an old soul, I really believe she had the inner strength to find peace with it all as she grew up. She'd be in her 30's now, right? I hope she's having a nice life with amazingly cute kids of her own now. : )
without you baby girl, he would be dead, you are an echo of your parents....you think they raised you sooooo good.....and they are sooooo proud of you.....and the world would miss you and him sweetheart.....we are a better place because of earthside angels like you and rufus... :)
Thank god a ambulance was already out. That’s a terrifying situation. All the kids hysterical which is of course understandable. The baby girl did really well as well. She seemed calmer than the older sister.
Well when I was 10 years old and I watched that, I was scared that it would happen to me. I know it won't happen as LONG as the person who is handling the sharp knife is EXTREMELY careful not to stab anyone or anything.
There is this innocence in the children back in the day that it seems to be different from the kids now, every episode i watched the children were so sweet, responsible and seemed to be more innocent and pure !
Amen, exactly 😢 Kids are so desensitized today with all of the evils they see and hear from TV and home and such. This was truly a good time for kids to grow up.
She was just a kid. Taking care of your siblings is a big responsiblity, especially when you are ten and have to watch 3 kids, two of whom are under the age of 5.
God, when I was a little kid and my brother, was a toddler this Episode disturbed me so bad I cried I have not watched it for all these years and it disturbs me to his day especially now since I have 4-year-old almost 5 -year- old niece and her one year old sister who is just barely learning to walk and for people judging the mom some parents have no choice sometimes and this can happen with someone at any age that 10-year-old did a remarkable job and kept a very cool head in what must have been a terrifying situation for her she lived it and I a 34 year old adult can't hardly watch it my little 1 year old niece almost got a knife out the drawer the other day I stopped her she had one end of it and I had the other andI let the most bloodcurdling scream for my mom because I was just imagining in my mom oh my god I cannot get this from her by myself what if it slips accidents can happen to even the best parents no matter what you think you are doing to protect your kids
I just now went out of my way to search for this episode. I was 5 years old when this episode aired and still remember vividly the part where they collide around the corner with the knife. I actually think of this episode almost every time I walk around with anything sharp and consciously hold things to where I won't hurt others or myself. Crazy to think this is the first time I've seen this in 30 years.
I sort of remember the logger segment. 2 guys both named Ken who find a baby in a blanket in a ditch or a dead end road. They blast up the heat in the truck because it is very cold. I think one of Ken's(one of the 2 loggers) quotes was "This person threw this baby away like discarding a peice of baggage"
It's been 28 years since this happened so Rufus is 31 and will be 32 in February, Kimberly is 32, Michelle is 38, and Jessica is 35. Michelle was very frantic and screaming like crazy, but she did a great job. I hope she teaches her children, nieces, and nephews how dangerous knives can be. She was frightened big time.
omgosh... This is so sad, I can only imagine how terrified they all must have been... I wonder how they're doing 20+ years later? Hopefully they're all alright now...
ddivincenzo1 Exactly. I would never leave a child of that age with 3 young children. I only feel comfortable leaving mine for short periods now and they are 14, 12, and 9. They are children, you can't be too careful.
@jennny55 I was born in 1985 and I had chores and babysat also when I was around 10 years old. I also prepared some meals by myself. I could bake cakes, make biscuits (from scratch), anything really. Kids were more mature back then and expected to do more. Life wasn't all about sheltering your kids, it was about teaching them to survive on their own once they're grown. Now kids are way too coddled and they end up 18 and clueless.
jhgjhggj exactly id rather be stabbed in the foot than in an area like that where I could die, sure I could die from the foot but it’s a much lower chance
I work with small(4-6yrs)children,we teach them and remind them every single day to point the knife and the fork to the floor when they carrie their plate and glass and knive and fork away after lunch. They never learn, never, same goes on year after year with every group of children,we remind them;stop, remember to point your knife and fork down to the floor..next day same thing through out the year. They don't learn this thing.
I remeber this show being on TV when I was a little kid, and I couldn't watch the reenactments 'caused they scared me. It was like watching a horror movie. It still gives me the heebie-jeebies watching the reenactments.
On that same Episode with the loggers is the segment I remember clearly with Jamie who gets his unexpected visit from Santa who gives Jamie the heimlick to dislodge his fast food. He looked like he was eating fries. Jamie was with his Mom and sister. They were on the way to the mall to see Santa when Santa gets out of his van at the red light to save Jamie!! What a twist of fate!
I ended up in a "Rescue 911" situation when I was only 4; our German Shepard dog attacked me when I tried to move his food and he took a bite out of my forehead and I had to get stitches and now my scar on my forehead that looks like Harry Potter's lightning scar but it has faded in the 23 years since. This incident happened right after my sister's 6th birthday if I recall. She was also in the hospital because she got her tonsils removed.
Darn dogs anyway. I feel for you. I was attacked once by a cousin's pitbull fifteen years ago. Lucky for me, the dog only tore my clothes, but in my rush to get away from the chained beast, I ran into the roof of a garage that was built in a hillside, and I had to go to the emergency room as the metal flashing cut an l-shaped wound in my forehead. Dang! That darn garage had one hell of a bite, LOL.
All I can say is ouch! I've never been stabbed before. I would scream like hell even if it was just a paper cut, I can't imagine how I would handle a knife stab, especially if I was like 5 year old.
I was stabbed by accident when I was almost 9 years old. To begin, it was mid-October, 1986, and Mom, my two brothers, sister, and I moved to a big house in Nebraska City. It was the morning after the big move. Mom had a load of dishes in the dish washer. Keep in mind that at the time, my dear old grandpa was dying of cancer and was living with an aunt in Omaha. So Mom had a lot on her mind. Well, without thinking, she poured liquid dish soap in the dish washer and it sudsed over really bad. So she took the rack out and put it on the floor while she cleaned up the mess. Not long after, I got out of bed and came downstairs. Because I was bare-footed, Mom didn't hear me, and I stumbled over the rack and ran a huge butcher knife straight into my thigh, thus nicking my femural artery, and Mom freaked. I guess that is why any episodes of Rescue 9-1-1 involving bad cuts and massive bleeding scare the hell out of me.
Rufus was a coworker and still a friend, (although he moved away from us 😢 lol).. He told me about this and showed me the episode. Such a strong sister in this situation. Rufus is really an awesome person…he is extremely smart and strong! I miss seeing/talking to him!
Today Michelle is 33, Jessica (whose my age) 30, Kimberly's 27, and Rufus is 26 and will be 27 in February. Michelle did a good job helping Rufus. As the ambulance drove away, Kimberly probably thought "Oh no, what have I done?"
i feel so bad for the little kid that got stabbed. and i bet that girl who accidentally stabbed him is now scared for life. plus, who would leave a ten year old to watch three kids? i could see if it was 1 kid for a small amount of time but THREE?!
Shatner says at the beginning, "The spirit of Christmas will take on a new meaning for the Klouses!" Jamie Klouse, his mom Robin, and his sis whos name I forgot! "Just then a stranger dressed as the jolly old man himself jumps out of a van, performs the heimlick manuever allowing the boy to breathe. His name? Who knows? Well, I'd like to know!"
it would be cool if theres a sepia colored version of this segment since I got a video of the palm springs mounted search and rescue and it talks about the 2 jennifers from #616, but the rescue is in sepia tone probably because it was the film used for 911 reenactments.
My mom would've NEVER let me or my brother stay home at 10.Even if kids were more mature back then, that's very young and to be looking after 3 more kids, that's pretty much.
it makes me mad to see her so upset saying her parents raised her so good, she shouldn't have been left alone with that many kids to look after in the first place, so not her fault
Please, don't hold this against me, but no. 1, I love your UA-cam name. No. 2, when I read it, that song "Stacy's Mom" flashed through my head, but instead, I thought "Fancy's mom has got it goin' on," LOL.
I don't understand leaving a ten year old home to babysit. My parents would never have left me to babysit my younger siblings when I was that young, and I was exceptionally mature for my age. I would never have left my children with a ten year old.
Well, thee ten year old was her child, too, but you are right, leaving a child that young to babysit three younger children is just ludicrous, especially if she already has homework and chores to do.
Wow, she left her 10 year old incharge of the 3 little sibblings.I understand that us moms have to leave our children alone because its expensive to pay daycare.Sadly I'll do that sometimes becuase I'm a single mom and cant afford to pay daycare, even though my children are 12, 11 and 4
Oh Michelle just broke my heart. 😢😢😢 That precious girl shouldn't have been responsible for watching her 3 siblings. How sad. 😢 So glad Rufus survived this horrible accident 😢
Life death emergency situation, yes. It is right and legal for a paramedic to cut clothing off of a person in that situation. Regular joe blow on the street with no EMT training? Nope.
My husband was one of the medics on this call. We both worked for DeKalb Co. EMS back then and I'll never forget the call going out that day or him filming this episode. We still have the pay stub from when he got paid from Rescue 911!
This was my family. Thank you all for your service and for all you did for us that day! We are all doing well today 😁

That poor lil girl holds so much in you can tell with all her tears. Poor kids.
Oof. The older sister did an amazing job. She shouldn’t have been left alone with the kids, but she did very well under pressure.
It was the 80s and many kids were home by themselves at a young age. I was home by myself at 7 years old.
I used to watch this show in the 90's when I was a kid.
This show taught you some real ish.
"I got hurt by a knife, and now I'm better now"....got a little choked up right there.
Since i watched this episode when i was little, i never forgot this! Its been stuck with me for like, 20 years! Haven't seen it since...THANKS whoever put this on youtube!
No matter how "good" they are, NEVER leave kids alone at home
Amen 🙏
I’m 17 and cannot be left home alone cause seizures
this is the answer to the age-old question "what damage could possibly be done in 10 minutes?"
A child should never have to go through any of the situations in this video.
I remember my parents telling me how to walk with a knife after we saw this episode - this is one of those you never forget. Thanks for posting it!
Thanks for posting these episodes. Brings back memories as a child. Your right about kids being mature back then

Wow, I remember always watching this show and unsolved mysteries...geesh where does time go.
Same.
The way the kid goes "ow..." at 2:28 just makes you want to cry.
I can't hear it
These kids are so cute. The oldest sister is an adorable little lady.

No responsible parent leaves a 10 year old with younger children to care for. I wasn't even allowed to stay with MYSELF until 14 or 15.
I just now went out of my way to search for this episode. I was 5 years old when this episode aired and still remember vividly the part where they collide around the corner with the knife. She sure does 😢 AND will most likely live with that guilt for the rest of her life. So sad 😢
@@RSMR7. All the more reason never to parentify a kid as young as she is. (Was by now.)😢
He didn't get stabbed with a butter knife. The little girl was supposed to get a butter knife, but she made a mistake and got a sharp knife instead.
Ten is too young to be left in charge alone like that and the drawers should have safety locks.
ddivincenzo1 I agree, "babies taking care of babies"
ddivincenzo1 Exactly. I would never leave a child of that age with 3 young children. I only feel comfortable leaving mine for short periods now and they are 14, 12, and 9. They are children, you can't be too careful.

Yes, within the next two weeks before I go back to school. That's one of the longest segments on Rescue 911, it runs between 23 and 25 minutes.
I think she meant that you should not hurt anybody and treat them with respect and help them when they need help.

Don't leave knives in a low drawer. Period. And don't leave kids that are so young alone. Thank god they were all ok.
Magnetic racks well beyond reach for sharp knives is an excellent idea.
It's so frightening to see a little child get stabbed.
Children have feelings too. If you think your child would not feel responsible in such a situation then this would be very alarming.
Thanks for posting Rescue 911.
Do you think that you can get around to posting the next segment with the murderer threatening the hospital staff?
There's also a DeKalb county in Georgia.
I don't know if any of you have similar memories, but my parents showed me how to walk with a sharp knife right after this episode aired.

"Just then a stranger dressed as the jolly old man himself jumps out of a van, performs the heimlick manuever allowing the boy to breathe. His name? Who knows? Well, I'd like to know!"
It makes me wonder how this family is doing nowadays.
RUFUS TURNED OUT OK I WORK WITH HIM :)
LoLoL xD
it would be cool if theres a sepia colored version of this segment since I got a video of the palm springs mounted search and rescue and it talks about the 2 jennifers from #616, but the rescue is in sepia tone probably because it was the film used for 911 reenactments.
My mom would've NEVER let me or my brother stay home at 10.Even if kids were more mature back then, that's very young and to be looking after 3 more kids, that's pretty much.
No, watch "Furnace Fire" from Episode 105.
OMG when they did the part with the kids running into each other I felt terrible, like it was happening for real, right this moment. Unbelievable
it makes me mad to see her so upset saying her parents raised her so good, she shouldn't have been left alone with that many kids to look after in the first place, so not her fault
Ahhh the little boy is really sweet :)
who leaves a 10 year old in charge of ANYBODY??? Especially THREE KIDS...I wasn't allowed to stay home alone or baby sit until I was 13
I have to agree that u should never leave any child alone no matter how old they are. especially a 10 year old.
"Prison EMT's"
In that segment, a prisoner fakes a heart attack so he and another convict can hijack an ambulance.
Now there's a leap in logic...
The 911 call is intense for me to hear
Life death emergency situation, yes. It is right and legal for a paramedic to cut clothing off of a person in that situation. Regular joe blow on the street with no EMT training? Nope.
She did, she told Kimberly to go put the knife back. Kimberly accidentally stabbed her brother on the way back to the kitchen.
parents know what there doing always trust their actions and listen to what they say
Yes
they werent exactly playing with the knife.
yea your right kids that age no matter how grown they might act they are still kids and they shouldn't be left alone
At the age of 10 is still legally a kid should have a babysitter or grand parents in charge
