Thanks so much for this breakdown! I edit mostly gaming videos with custom animations that seem to really tax my 5 year old laptop. I'm ready for an upgrade! Do you recommend waiting for DDR5 RAM?
I'm not sure about DDR5, but I expect that it won't make much difference. The thing is that software needs to utilize this new hardware. It often takes years for software to catch up.

I was told that getting a SSD with about 250GB just to load up my Photoshop and Premiere CC programs would be best and keep all the files on the main HD? Would that make sense vs better processor or more RAM ???
SSD is the best performance/dollar upgrade you can make. If you're still not sure though then keep the program "HWMonitor" (it comes with windows) open in the background while you work and see which part of your computer is working the hardest and upgrade that. Plus you can take the SSD with you to your next computer if you upgrade completely.

Just make sure you get a motherboard with four memory slots and start with a 16GB RAM kit. That way when you are ready to upgrade you just need to plug in two more sticks rather than replacing your existing memory.
