Plot twist. All of them are addicted to Krabby Patties and the longer they aren’t eating one the angrier they get. Which is why plankton is usually always angry. And the most memorable time of Squidward being happy is when he ate all of the Krabby Patties.

The closest thing to a canon explanation comes from the episode were Spongebob flies. When everyone is making fun at him for following his dream, he defends himself but that just makes the fishes talk about their own failed dreams before going after Bob.
Spongebob is just one of the rare shows where the mean background characters are actually funny for being just so reactionary and yet quotable. That "YOU WHHAAT" fish that is ready to kill Spongebob over his drink is pretty much a meme. The later seasons also are starting to seem more self-aware that, the Bikini Bottomites just are like that.
Honestly, I couldn't agree more. The Bikini Bottomites are nothing more than ungrateful and judgemental hypocrites. Such episode examples being SpongeBob's Place, Gone, and Sun Bleached.

As we've seen in Pizza Delivery: SpongeBob is very sensitive to the town people. But Squidward is absolutely immune to them, so in that these characters are balanced very well

There’s also the episode “Sun Bleached”, where the sea lion Craig Mammalton is hosting a party exclusively for individuals with the “exact right shade of tan”…and has the gall to pull down a baby’s pants to reveal his non-tanned bottom, and then toss said baby into the garbage area with, as he puts it, “the other rejects”. And then when SpongeBob is revealed to have gotten sun bleached, everybody is celebrating it! Seriously, even as a kid watching it, I thought that episode seems to be sending all sorts of messed-up messages! (Even dangerous ones arguably, considering I remember being taught in school how dangerous it was to get excessively tanned certain ways, especially with sun beds!)
There’s even a fish with RED skin who tells Craig to kick out SpongeBob just because he isn’t tan and he’s “ruining the party”. GIRL YOU’RE NOT EVEN TAN YOU CANT BE TALKING
That is by far the most hilarious meme out there, especially considering some people even make it look like this guy is literally dangerously insane. But I think out of the dark jokes that really get me with this guy is the fact that when he screams out chocolate. In another meme, I’m pretty sure it received a lot of comments for it. Being recommended as an SVU meme as well. The guy breaks into Squidward bathroom, causing Squidward to scream very long and then the guy laughs and says now that I got you right where I want you telling us that Squidward is about to be raped. Now I will say when it comes to this character it’s almost like he’s about to go do what we think he’s gonna do to Squidward in the other meme.
Here's another thing regarding the fishes, The episode that features Spongebob's diary. The fishes in the krusty krab were laughing at the contents from the diary alongside Squidward but the moment SpongeBob finds out what was being done and leaves in tears, them fishes instantly turn against Squidward like they weren't also laughing, you could try to state that "oh they didn't know whose it was"but still doesn't generally justify it.
Then they took away Squidward's house just because he read the diary. What the hell is wrong with these fish. It would be pretty great if the show made a episode where they focus on why the fish are always so angry

I literally feel like the only person alive sometimes that was never really into SpongeBob. The same with South Park for me. That being said you continue to be the best at what you do and this video did make me wanna maybe give the show another try! I hope you’ll consider doing more Bob’s Burgers in the future! I don’t know if you never did anymore after Louise and Bob because they didn’t get any views but I would love it! Bob’s Burgers is my favorite show that isn’t The Simpsons as far as cartoons go!

In my opinion, I feel like they based these background characters rudeness off of both the Simpsons and South Park. Don’t get me wrong. Those shows have background characters that literally do pretty antagonistic stuff, especially without thinking anything through. Later on other shows would be inspired by the background characters and antagonistic traits. Such as a show known as yakkity yak and Family Guy
What’s really bad about the SpongeBob flying episode is how *furious* they get with him for simply having a dream and not giving up on it He called them out for making fun of his dream, and they pointed out that they all had dreams too, and because theirs didn’t come true but SpongeBob still believed in his, they formed an angry mob and chased after him simply because he still had a dream he wanted to come true And to me this is *truly* horrible

Apparently the Sandy episode was written to have Sandy completely naked with a really grotesque appearance (Looks like something out of Ren & Stimpy, tbh), but it got changed. Spongebob wiki says Stephen wanted her furless design to be consistent with how she looked in Survival of the Idiots, TVTropes say the execs had a problem with her being nude. Could be both.
Sometimes I wonder if the townsfolk of Bikini Bottom would get their own taste of medicine like see how they feel if they worked at the Krusty Krab and having Mr. Krabs as a boss. Like it’s one thing to not like someone’s positive outlook, it’s another thing to straight up try to kill a guy after he did everything he could to help you out with your favors, just because they believe they were ‘owed’ more favors, lmao.

I can’t speak for the modern episodes, but having background characters be assholes was a common comedy trope in the 90’s and early 2000’s. Just watch any old Adam Sandler movie, and you’ll see that random people on the street are always made to be dicks. It’s just a device to let the audience know that the main character is an underdog who everyone thinks is a loser. I think old school SpongeBob was just following that trope.
This is so real. I always hated them. I never hated Squidward however. Likely because he actually had to live in between SpongeBob and Patrick, worked for Mr Krabs for no money, and had to spend all his time working with SpongeBob. He’s clearly depressed, and anytime he acts rude to SpongeBob or Patrick he gets his comeuppance. The writers of course take it too far later into the show and just made the episodes about Squidward being tortured for no reason. Plus Squidward does have moments where he is genuinely kind to others, and he has funny moments that you relate to more as you grow up. But the fish are truly the worst. They have no patience, empathy, manners, or any likable characteristics. The fact that they kinda represent a mob compared to the individual underdogs of the main characters also made me hate them.
Its not just about mob mentality, its also about keeping up appearances and stuff, some people for some reason tend to mistake kindness for weakness, which is why many folks act tough even if they are big softies inside, and honestly as a big softie myself I can't blame them, because people are always trying to take advantage of me which is why I've sort of become indifferent to people around me, and I now tend to look at other people like NPCs or something, because many folks are entitled and think you owe them respect and a bunch of other things, when they have never shown you respect or anything else in return, so that is why I just rather not get involved and keep to myself now, as I would rather be this way, rather than be part of a mob that cares nothing for me.
Squidward also gets the short end of the stick constantly. Like them confiscating squidward's house after reading spongebob's diary. Or Squidward going to jail for literally NO REASON in "Fiasco!".

Honestly, I couldn't agree more. The Bikini Bottomites are nothing more than ungrateful and judgemental hypocrites. Such episode examples being SpongeBob's Place, Gone, and Sun Bleached.
The same applies to the people of Springfield, quahog, mellowbrok, dimsdale, Townsville and South Park
and they treat Squidward like the punching bag of Family Guy

As we've seen in Pizza Delivery: SpongeBob is very sensitive to the town people. But Squidward is absolutely immune to them, so in that these characters are balanced very well

SB and P are annoying enough on their own, but these guys lumped in with them really make you FEEL like Squidward.
There’s also the episode “Sun Bleached”, where the sea lion Craig Mammalton is hosting a party exclusively for individuals with the “exact right shade of tan”…and has the gall to pull down a baby’s pants to reveal his non-tanned bottom, and then toss said baby into the garbage area with, as he puts it, “the other rejects”. And then when SpongeBob is revealed to have gotten sun bleached, everybody is celebrating it!
Seriously, even as a kid watching it, I thought that episode seems to be sending all sorts of messed-up messages! (Even dangerous ones arguably, considering I remember being taught in school how dangerous it was to get excessively tanned certain ways, especially with sun beds!)
There’s even a fish with RED skin who tells Craig to kick out SpongeBob just because he isn’t tan and he’s “ruining the party”. GIRL YOU’RE NOT EVEN TAN YOU CANT BE TALKING

That is by far the most hilarious meme out there, especially considering some people even make it look like this guy is literally dangerously insane. But I think out of the dark jokes that really get me with this guy is the fact that when he screams out chocolate. In another meme, I’m pretty sure it received a lot of comments for it. Being recommended as an SVU meme as well. The guy breaks into Squidward bathroom, causing Squidward to scream very long and then the guy laughs and says now that I got you right where I want you telling us that Squidward is about to be raped. Now I will say when it comes to this character it’s almost like he’s about to go do what we think he’s gonna do to Squidward in the other meme.

Here's another thing regarding the fishes, The episode that features Spongebob's diary. The fishes in the krusty krab were laughing at the contents from the diary alongside Squidward but the moment SpongeBob finds out what was being done and leaves in tears, them fishes instantly turn against Squidward like they weren't also laughing, you could try to state that "oh they didn't know whose it was"but still doesn't generally justify it.
Then they took away Squidward's house just because he read the diary. What the hell is wrong with these fish. It would be pretty great if the show made a episode where they focus on why the fish are always so angry
The characters that shamed squidward for reading spongebob's dairy are hypocrites.
How could they be shaming Squidward for reading SpongeBob's diary? They should be shaming SpongeBob for harassing Squidward and ruining his life! I think all background characters need some therapy.

I literally feel like the only person alive sometimes that was never really into SpongeBob. The same with South Park for me. That being said you continue to be the best at what you do and this video did make me wanna maybe give the show another try! I hope you’ll consider doing more Bob’s Burgers in the future! I don’t know if you never did anymore after Louise and Bob because they didn’t get any views but I would love it! Bob’s Burgers is my favorite show that isn’t The Simpsons as far as cartoons go!

Those shows have background characters that literally do pretty antagonistic stuff, especially without thinking anything through. What’s really bad about the SpongeBob flying episode is how *furious* they get with him for simply having a dream and not giving up on it
He called them out for making fun of his dream, and they pointed out that they all had dreams too, and because theirs didn’t come true but SpongeBob still believed in his, they formed an angry mob and chased after him simply because he still had a dream he wanted to come true
And to me this is *truly* horrible

Not only that, its also implied that the fish are prejudiced towards land mammals like sandy as in the episode someone's in the kitchen with sandy they ridicule and even arrest her for being naked when some of them dont even wear clothes at all. They also treated squidward as a town pariah for reading spongebob's diary when they themselves knowingly read it with him and laughed as well. Bikini bottom is honestly a fucked up place if you think about it

Apparently the Sandy episode was written to have Sandy completely naked with a really grotesque appearance (Looks like something out of Ren & Stimpy, tbh), but it got changed. Spongebob wiki says Stephen wanted her furless design to be consistent with how she looked in Survival of the Idiots, TVTropes say the execs had a problem with her being nude. Could be both.

I don't know. That one blue fish with a white t shirt (I think his name was Harold) gets so easily pissed for the littlest of things. In one episode where Spongebob tried to make milkshakes, he literally put the milkshake on top of Spongebob's head really aggressively just because it was cold
BubbleBass and Fred are pretty mild compared to most of the others.

And when reverted to their primal form, they end up trying to eat each other. So they shouldn’t have that instinct anymore as they evolved past that.
Also, I think you’re underestimating how psychopathic these fish can get. Like it’s one thing to not like someone’s positive outlook, it’s another thing to straight up try to kill a guy after he did everything he could to help you out with your favors, just because they believe they were ‘owed’ more favors, lmao.

That's one reason why background characters are jerks and stubborn. Why can't they have therapy and understand the meaning of blame? They don't need to blame the victims for their wrongdoing. They need to blame on the perpetrator for their crimes!

I can’t speak for the modern episodes, but having background characters be assholes was a common comedy trope in the 90’s and early 2000’s. Just watch any old Adam Sandler movie, and you’ll see that random people on the street are always made to be dicks. It’s just a device to let the audience know that the main character is an underdog who everyone thinks is a loser.
I think old school SpongeBob was just following that trope.

This is so real. I always hated them.
I never hated Squidward however. Likely because he actually had to live in between SpongeBob and Patrick, worked for Mr Krabs for no money, and had to spend all his time working with SpongeBob. He’s clearly depressed, and anytime he acts rude to SpongeBob or Patrick he gets his comeuppance. The writers of course take it too far later into the show and just made the episodes about Squidward being tortured for no reason.
Plus Squidward does have moments where he is genuinely kind to others, and he has funny moments that you relate to more as you grow up.
But the fish are truly the worst. They have no patience, empathy, manners, or any likable characteristics. The fact that they kinda represent a mob compared to the individual underdogs of the main characters also made me hate them.
If I was there, we'd be having a fried fish platter. Try me, bikini bottomites!

Its not just about mob mentality, its also about keeping up appearances and stuff, some people for some reason tend to mistake kindness for weakness, which is why many folks act tough even if they are big softies inside, and honestly as a big softie myself I can't blame them, because people are always trying to take advantage of me which is why I've sort of become indifferent to people around me, and I now tend to look at other people like NPCs or something, because many folks are entitled and think you owe them respect and a bunch of other things, when they have never shown you respect or anything else in return, so that is why I just rather not get involved and keep to myself now, as I would rather be this way, rather than be part of a mob that cares nothing for me.
