If you look at one of his rig rundowns of his fly kit he's likely play with 2 delays and some distortion.
Literaly just solo guitar. No rhythms, no drums, even so, PG played everything metronomically perfect... GOD!
Playing without a backing track really put your technique under a magnifying glass. He pulls it off with flying colors, plays the tune fluently, in time (note he's stomping with his left leg), in tune and with great vibrato. He makes faces and nods his head, but I think that's just showmanship. He plays it without any effort!
I noticed the same 6 years after :) that loco don't need no band to sound like a mofo!
Man he sure plays clean! You can hear every single note! I've loved watching Paul since about 1985 and he's gotten better!

Found it more darker and dynamic. And the vibe this version generating is raw/pure/solid/metal, indeed. That's what I felt. Plus only Legends can dare to perform guitar with distorted tone on live and sound these much clean on every notes he picks even without taking backups from other instruments. So much control and dynamics he created, Unbelievable.

That's why rock and pop music are so popular. Musical complexity and technical prowess do not necessarily translate into increased subjective enjoyment for audiences. Things that are easy to hum and dance to tend to get stuck in people's heads easier.

I have seen many talented guitarists live. Tony Iommi, Ritchie Blackmore, Gary Moore, Randy Rhoads, Tom Morello, Bucketheat, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani but Paul Gilbert is the one I remember as just being so obviously excited by the joy of playing guitar. His obvious enthusiasm for his craft and for his instrument was so infectious.

Did his backing track screw up aswell there? Saw him at the london guitar show a few years back & when there were technical difficulties with his backing tracks he just started playing for about half an hour by himself.

I think this is the first time in the world someone " THE Paul Gilbert " plays his world famous song without backing traCK or the live musicians along with a lower tempo.
Só não entendi pq ele tocou a música em aproximadamente 90 bpm, sendo que no vídeo original toca a mais de 120bpm...bom acho que foi didático, de qualquer forma é um monstro.

I dunno. A bit underwhelmed here. Don't get me wrong, he's still a legend and plays amazing - but the song itself with no rhythm section is just incomplete.
It's a nice demo of what he's able to do to with an axe but I wouldn't watch it again. (Contrast this with the video of him playing this (with an Amber colored guitar, easy to find) - I've seen that literally dozens of times by now)

I love this track and i love paul gilbert. BUTT thats why i dislike single coils. humbuckers just have the juicy output which is often needed in tracks like that

oh yes you're right. somehow the output seems to be pretty low. maybe his amp needs some more gain
