A cool tip with SkyTrak is you don’t have to line up any logos with the unit if you use the TP5 Pix golf balls. It will pick it up all the time if you just set it on the red dot. I love mine and have found this to be the best way to have no missed shots or shots not being picked up.
I love how thorough all of your reviews are. Wether it's a club, a ball, or device, you seem very fair and honest. Thank you for that. I'd love to take lessons from you brother. But I feel lucky to have found this channel, it's helped my game for sure
Great video in general. Of Note, at 2:15 you move the tee that you aligned the tracman with before you aligned the skytrak. This is what caused your variations. You aligned the skytrak to the right a few degrees, that makes a big difference when you're extrapolating from just a few feet.
Love my Skytrak. But I can say, playing indoors as much as I do has had an effect on my course play. I play far better in my garage with the perfect lye every time. But I did go from a 24 handicap to an 11 in a year!!
I've had the SkyTrak for about a month now. It's works amazing. I decided to spend $2k instead of paying $10 a day to go to the range. Plus of having a launch monitor is you can hit the range whenever you want...like sometimes at 2 am lol But other than that, SkyTrak is very accurate on shot shape and distance is what I use it for
Hey, I know this comment was a while ago, but just wondering how SkyTrak goes outside? I'm between it and the Mevo+ but will mostly be using in my backyard into a net with occasional trips to the range. Future indoor use but who knows when as it'll rely on moving house.
Skytrak is an affordable option for getting started on Sim golf. It helps me get dialed in when I have problems or trying to work on new things. So far, I love it (6-7 handicap) with no lessons but self-learning with youtube videos and self-recording devices.
I must say that what I saw at a friends house was very close to what you saw. He has a trackman and I a SKYTRAK. I didn’t mess with the aim much but like you I was comparing the carry and total numbers Great video. Thanks
Great review. Thanks! I have a Skytrak and if you consider the price compared to a Trackman its unbeatable. It does misread and miss shots, especially high wedges etc but it does give you confidence that its pretty accurate when it does read. Ive noticed that whatever the alignment, it does tend to show shots going more left or right than in real life. When I have a problem hooking the ball on Skytrak and go to the range, often the problem isn't as bad as I thought. Its happened several times. I heard that the ball flight algorithm does not allow for side spin to decrease through the shot like it would in real life and so the spin takes the ball further off line. It does mean that if I play badly on Skytrak its not nearly so bad on the real course! Its a winner for me...
I've been using my SkyTrak tons the past couple years ... love it. I completely trust my SkyTrak distances on course, even the short chips. My game within 100 yards is so much better since using the Wedge Matrix feature in SkyTrak. The only downside I've experienced is draw (left) curve. I can draw my driver all day on the SkyTrak but can almost never accomplish this on the range or on course. Not sure why. It would also be nice to be able to use the SkyTrak on the range but as Matt indicates, the unit doesn't work well in the sun. For this reason, I'm contemplating a switch to Mevo+ at some point as I do like the flexibility of home or range use.
I am seeing Skytrak to be right on with flight and distances. The only issue to me is the alignment. If you buy the protective case, it has a spot to insert an alignment rod. That works great and makes alignment much easier. I use that as the starting point and then adjust within a few shots to see where the unit thinks center is. Once you have center, it’s right on. Yardages are right on the money. I can compare yardages from skytrak to my yardages from Arccos on the real course and they are spot on.
I use a Skytrak at home and I find the everything white is kind a messing up with the reading. So... here is a few recommendation: - black background - black tee - black shoe - black pants This combination drastically improved my experience. Also... The Taylormade PIX (TP5, TP5X) works perfectly, if you don't want to lineup the logo all the time I also tried the alignment pointer, but the problem is if you floor is uneven the line will be skewed. so it's kind a useless. I stick with the base.
Totally agree. My buddy who also owns a Skytrak (as do I) was going nuts one day trying to figure out why his machine was suddenly not reading shots. Turned out it was his "shiny" shorts. Switched them out and voila the skytrak was reading once again.
Thanks for the video! I watched this video to see if club head speed was off in the skytrak vs track man and this definitely confirmed it is. Skytrak produces club head speed after the ball is finished and stoped. Track man shows club head speed instantly regardless of where the ball ends up. Skytrak is basically guessing club head speed.
this was almost a perfect review. you messed up the alignment big time with skytrak, but that is an easy fix. great to see it it definitely worth the pricetag!
Thank you for the video. Looking forward to picking up a Skytrak myself. Just need the house, garage, or shed that isn't limited with 8' tall ceilings. We are house shopping.
A couple of comments to keep that screen looking good and lasting a bit longer. Yes definitely use clean golf balls, but also make sure your clubs get a pretty good clean as well as the dirt from a club face will transfer to the screen and also add some wear and tear. Finally, Make sure you replace golf balls that start to show wear as that will be like sandpaper on your screen. Hope you enjoy the space! Maybe see you on a future Virtual Golf 2 tourney.
I am very glad you did this review. I have owned SkyTrak for about 2-3 years. Every so often you hit a shot and you know it was in a direction but the machine gives you a completely inaccurate shot. So I was thinking that I would had to, at some point, upgrade to Trackman. After seeing your review and how good it compared to a machine 8x as expensive, I think I will stick with the SkyTrak. So, Thank you!!! Also, when you hit lofted shots...it usually does NOT even detect the shot.
I don’t have any problems with my lofted clubs using the SkyTrak. I did just do the software update, however I didn’t have any problems before the update.
On the Skytrak you need to be sure a logo or some other ball marking is facing the unit to get accurate spin. It didn't appear you were doing that when setting/teeing balls.
The alignment mode doesn’t work that well on Skytrak, best to just chip a few over your intended target at net and ck its picking up the horizontal launch as straight. Good video, would have been good to have seen trackman’s spin axis numbers too.
I owned SkyTrak for a few years and never knew how to align until I joined all the Facebook groups. Valuable information there. Easier to search than golfsimulatorforum too.

@@dscott333 Don't waste your money on Optishot. Like you said, it's nothing more than a toy. At this point, the only worthwhile (and relatively affordable) home machines are the Skytrak and Mevo+.
@@stevep2760 Recently Garmin R10 seems promising but after using it for two months, I found that it is not quite usable at indoor setting at all. Too many missed reads, wrong shot shapes quite often, virtually zero pickup of short chip shots etc..
I've had my skytrak about 9 months and love it! We play the simulated courses a few times a week. I really like the retractable screen and that is my next project. You don't have it weighed down at the bottom or connected on the sides at all? It doesn't seem like you do but it would be great it you can confirm. Thanks!
Thank you for this video! I ordered a Skytrak a couple weeks ago, apposed to the mevo+, and this supports my research. Also, your videos are in general are awesome! You are realist youtube golfer out there and not afraid to go against the grain
one thing to note, especially on that low 4 iron hook. Trackman gives total spin rate not just backspin. So if you factor in back and side spin then skytrak was probably pretty close.
Great review, and good to see how accurate SkyTrak is. 11:04, the two spin rates don't match because they aren't reporting the same thing. Trackman measures total spin, and a spin axis. SkyTrak *probably* measures the same thing, but they report it differently with a "backspin" and "sidespin" number.
Do Skytrak vs. Rapsodo MLM: Rapsodo makes the internals of the Skytrak so would be interesting to see how the two match up considering one is only $500 but only works outside
I’d also love to see a review of Rapsodo mom and not only how it compares the Skytrak but to the other $500 launch monitors you have reviewed in the past (SC300, Mevo, ES B1)
I run one of those alignment rods mounted on the front of Skytrak’s protective case. Use a wooden yardstick off the wall insuring equal on both sides. Bam...
Great video. I loved my SkyTrak and found it to be very accurate. I upgraded to GCQuad this year and I haven’t looked back. SkyTrak is an amazing product to get into the launch monitor segment though. Fun for sim play too.
Wow, 10 to 12 week backorder situation at SkyTrack...I guess I wont be expecting the price to drop anytime soon. Great review, this is on the upper end of my wish list, along with all the other cool goodies you have in your golf studio!
Have had my SkyTrak since it came out. I use the TrackMan for work but for the money, the SkyTrak is more affordable. Thanks for the comparison. My tests are similar to yours.
Skytrak (first gen) now may have issues on the reads. I know there is a newer model - but the old one has a number of issues (at my unit does) - hangs, misreads (sometimes I am 50 yards left with a 9i) and has distance reads where they are really far off (my 7i carries 160-165 consistently with a trackman but in my ST unit, it sometimes only goes 145-150).
The thought of battling out in the garage over the winter with the guys is appealing. What happens when a 28 handicap friend mis hits a drive and the ball strikes the unit? Is it robust enough to take a hit, or is it toast?
Seems like SkyTrack is splitting spin up according to a horizontal and a vertical spin axis whereas Trackman is using the nominal spin around the actual spinaxis. So not directly comparable.
True, and shouldn’t be comparable at the price difference. I have both and one thing someone else pointed out, he’s not setting the logo of the ball facing the sky track. That’s a must for this machine. Or get the taylormade TP5 pix and not worry about it, but much more accurate and consistent when the logo is visible to Skytrak.
Just a tip. When you get yours, the best way to align the skytrak is to just simply chip a few shots to your “straight” target and adjust the skytrak to match the result.
I assume you leveled your Skytrak. Don't go by the level on top, use the alignment screen to get it zero'd. Mine was 4 degrees tipped backward which moves the front laser left of target line a bunch.
Great video. Love your style and channel. Skytrak vs Trackman is the only comparison that matters imo. Ordering a SkyTrak soon. Will use your link if its the same price or less. Keep up the good work
I think you should have set things parallel with where you're aiming. It seems weird that neither of the launch monitors are set to where you seem to be aiming when taking your stance... You place a tee at the middle of the screen, but that's not where you are aiming or hitting your shots. Look at the mats, and follow those. You setup left of your target on both monitors... Look at how you don't have parallel lines at 2:50. All those lines needs to be parallel to the lines in the mat, because that how you are swinging... Basically you have setup the monitors right of your actual target! If you draw a line from your ball - where is on the mat, when you setup (at 2:50) - and you make that parallel with the lines in the mat, you's find that your aim-point (that little rubber tee) needs to be moved about 4 inches to the left! You are in effect swinging and hitting the ball to the left of target in relation to how you set the whole thing up.
Thanks for the review. Just purchased a SkyTrak (was lucky enough to find one in stock, with most sites saying there is a 10-12 week back order) and setting it up in my garage. Waiting on a net and mat to arrive, but have purchased a small mat and some Callaway practice balls. The unit picks up the ball flight very well, and does a fairly accurate job on calculated distances with short irons. I noticed in the video with your son you had the cage on the unit. One tip I saw for alignment was to place an alignment stick in the lip of the cage, and parallel another on the mat. Looking forward to hitting some real balls very soon! Thanks again!
Really appreciate your review of Skytrak because it aided me in my decision to purchase Skytrak at the beginning of this year. I have enjoyed using Skytrak for driving range practice, but I don't know how many years it will last. I'm wondering if the Garmin R10 would be a good replacement if/when my Skytrak goes kaput. It would be great if you could compare the Garmin R10 to TrackMan. I have seen another video showing the R10 displaying opposite (left/right) deviations than the GC Quad. If the R10 is not showing fairly accurate left/right deviation measurements, then I definitely would not consider the R10 as a replacement candidate.
The low hook at 10.56 is a good example of how even the more expensive device can get it wrong from time to time. Look at the shot shape on the trackman, it showed a high launching hook, in that instance the skytrak got it more accurate showing a low angled hook. These aren't perfect technologies, my perspective is the skytrak for the price is incredible.
Would be interested to see this but with the new Mevo+ (or even Mevo+ vs. SkyTrack). Same price range as SkyTrack but no subscription service required (not a fan of paying $2,000 only to have to keep paying in order to play a virtual round). With Mevo+ you (apparently) get a few courses for free along with driving range and others practice options.
Crazy I was looking at buying a skytrak a few weeks ago, but wasn't sure how accurate it was but guess it's good. Thanks for the great video. Will use your promo code if they don't have military discount.
Great video, thanks! My SkyTrak is on the way. Quick question - do you always have the screen hanging like that? Was looking at the Carl's Premium and it looks like the have it bungie'd all the way around the screen...
GCQuad vs. Skytrak would be a better comparison since both are camera systems. Same with flightscope mevo and trackman 4, those are both radar systems.
Yes, but GCQuad and Trackman give pretty much the same results (they are both very high end) so this comparison is still legit - and probably better anyway as Trackman is the industry standard. Love Skytrak.
Will either device permit alteration of display order of data? It becomes tedious to visually hunt for the data points I place as of greater importance or that data my client wants to focus upon first.
How can I find out the average club head speed to carry the ball 50 yards? Would it be the same for LPGA, PGA and recreational golfers since the ball is going 50 yards
How do any of these launch monitors account for various lofts built into clubs (eg super improvement clubs vs “standard” lofted) When you input which club you are hitting do they use industry standard averages or can you enter the actual lofts?
Even though skytrack says it does not have to be perfectly level, i'd probably build aa little absolute level block for it.. think it would help it too
I understand that skytrack has an issue with high club head speed with driver and 3 wood. Can you have someone come test with club head speed over 120? Would love to see how it handles that!
Hi Matt,. I have a new topic you (might) want to do a short video on... (If you want an idea that is) Well, for me, it seems to help my game to take a couple days off, and not hit any balls. To rest my grip, forearms, and allow me to think about what I have been doing incorrectly. I am 62, and my muscles need to take a couple days off 1-2 a month. I seem to build up some overwork. It's like a bodybuilder. Bodybuilders don't work the same muscles every day. The muscles need time to recover. My game gets better when I take a couple days off. -Bryan
I believe your alignment lights are not straight. When I align my Skytrak I keep the device exactly in line with the target and the alignment lights always match that.
Looking for a unit that will provide feedback on club path and face angle. Was surprised to learn in your video that SkyTrak doesn't. Any recommendations for a unit that does (and won't break the bank)? Love your videos!
skytrak i keep hearing has a confirmed issue with the laser alignment settings. there are guys that have posted how to align it without that alignment mode. would love to see that again with the aim lined up
Ya I love my Skytrak but I don't understand why they even include the alignment mode. It's pretty useless and misleading. Better to get the metal case and align the unit using an alignment stick.
Dude your alignment was way off at first. The alignment mode only works if your skytrak is perfectly level and your floor is also perfectly level, otherwise the two red spots are misleading.
Hello Mr. SG, after a year would you still recommend the retractable screen? I'm in the market for one just like yours and I'm wondering how it's holding up a year later? Thank you.
Hi Matt, does the rapsodo MLM have options for playing courses indoors on a screen/projector setup like skytrak? I'm stuck between financing the skytrak or buying the Rapsodo. thanks and keep up the awesome videos - Jack
I'm building my own DIY sim but am wondering if the launch monitors are proprietary to their own courses or compatible with other systems. Ie optishot with skytrak courses etc
I got sky track and a lifetime membership with 'the golf club'and free upgrades (one time payment) when it first came out (maybe they needed cash?) and they don't have that deal anymore LOL
I had a skytrak and loved it for irons. But, it was awful for the driver. Half the time wouldn’t register my shots. And, when it did I could tell it wasn’t very accurate. But, it was great with irons. Also, the simulation software on the iPad was terrible. In order to make the simulation better you need a gaming computer and a different software package. That is another chunk of money. Overall, spend all that money on lessons and range time and you will be better off.
Can you do a video with you're new sand mat thinking of getting that setup for my simulator I'm building and would like to see how it works since you have you're impact screen
A cool tip with SkyTrak is you don’t have to line up any logos with the unit if you use the TP5 Pix golf balls. It will pick it up all the time if you just set it on the red dot. I love mine and have found this to be the best way to have no missed shots or shots not being picked up.

So, Thank you!!! Also, when you hit lofted shots...it usually does NOT even detect the shot.
So it won't pick up a 60 degree, for example?
I don’t have any problems with my lofted clubs using the SkyTrak. I did just do the software update, however I didn’t have any problems before the update.
For lofted shots just but the ball 1-2 inches forward, not on the point. For 3wood, but it 1-2 inches back.
if you have that problem just put the ball just a tiny but in front of the red dot so the lofted shot will catch the laser
Trackman costs far more than 8X of Skytrak, most likely at least 12X.

Perfect time for this comparison as I have a Skytrak on order.
Excited to see this will be such a useful piece of kit! Once again, thanks Matt!
I think it was January or February this year that the basic Skytrack was on sale for $1,300. , bring it back please lol.
“Let’s play a little fade... that was more of a giant push” 😂🤣😂 love the realism. Makes me feel not so bad with my performance
LYSOL spray takes off sharpie marker... it may be hard to find now a days... LOL
you can also try rubbing alcohol... but lysol works like a charm
Can you do this comparison with Trackman and Mevo plus?
I always wondered how they'd use both at the same time since they are with radar devices and sit behind the ball they may block either other.
Good comparison, but it would be better if you had the skytrak unit level and not several degrees off. Your results may be closer. Just a thought....
Still using it, if so, liking it?
If you add the "R'Motion" attachment, you get accurate club data for skytrak.
Would using skytrack (distance accuracy)and optishot 2 (club head angle etc) be a good combo alternative?
Good question. I hope someone replies.
Crazy I was looking at buying a skytrak a few weeks ago, but wasn't sure how accurate it was but guess it's good. Thanks for the great video. Will use your promo code if they don't have military discount.
Does SkyTrak have a MIL discount?
@@jdpst20 some of the websites that sell it offer them.
Hope your having a blast golfing on your trip right now
Great video, thanks! My SkyTrak is on the way.
Quick question - do you always have the screen hanging like that? Was looking at the Carl's Premium and it looks like the have it bungie'd all the way around the screen...
Thanks Matt, for the cost difference it appears the SkyTrack the better value for personal use 👍
apparently you have to tee up behind the red dot for the skytrak for driver
For its price, I am very impressed with the accuracy of Skytrak. Thank you for your excellent comparison.
Ya it's tough to beat.
We have Skytrack and love it
Hey Matt can you do Phi Golf? Obviously not most accurate simulator, but curios if it’s worth it
missing the stupendous course vlogs!!! bring them on!!
Hi Matt,
Great Vid! Please review the Mevo Plus vs Skytrak. I’m currently looking to buy one but Not sure which one! Thanks
How can I find out the average club head speed to carry the ball 50 yards? Would it be the same for LPGA, PGA and recreational golfers since the ball is going 50 yards
Great video and very good way of getting the most out of data feedback, enjoy all of your videos always learning useful tips 👍
How do any of these launch monitors account for various lofts built into clubs (eg super improvement clubs vs “standard” lofted) When you input which club you are hitting do they use industry standard averages or can you enter the actual lofts?
Even though skytrack says it does not have to be perfectly level, i'd probably build aa little absolute level block for it.. think it would help it too
Excellent video - thanks! Please also compare Swing Caddy SC300 - need to know how far off driver. Woods and long irons are. Thanks in advance
I am glad I live close to a course... with a driving range.... in Southern CA.
I understand that skytrack has an issue with high club head speed with driver and 3 wood. Can you have someone come test with club head speed over 120? Would love to see how it handles that!
Hi Matt,. I have a new topic you (might) want to do a short video on...
(If you want an idea that is)
Well, for me, it seems to help my game to take a couple days off, and not hit any balls.
-Bryan
Great review as always!!!! For a quick plop and play set up....Skytrak is an amazing unit!!!!
Go with the bushnell monitor even its more good product and doesn't miss any shots
Is there a specific reason for not having the Skytrak protective case? Do you recommend getting the case?
İf you can make a mevo+ vs skytrak vs trackman now we will have a decisive conclusion on what to buy
I like the skytrak on how it shows side spin.
Wow, that driver looks really long. Is that a 48 inch shaft?
I believe your alignment lights are not straight. When I align my Skytrak I keep the device exactly in line with the target and the alignment lights always match that.
Very helpful, I am trying to build my own home set up, for SkyTrak what s the optimal room space needed ?
As long as you can swing a club you will be fine. Skytrak measures the ball over the first foot or two, Anything after that is not necessary.
I have 9 foot ceilings in my apartment. If I commit to getting rid of most of my stuff I can think of this setup.
Thank you.
Love the videos man!! Keep it up
Hi Matt, does the rapsodo MLM have options for playing courses indoors on a screen/projector setup like skytrak? I'm stuck between financing the skytrak or buying the Rapsodo. thanks and keep up the awesome videos - Jack
if you dont have a Trackman to compare how do know your set up right with skytrack?
Hey Matt -What is the size of your screen. The space I have is about the same size as your, so curious.
What does MrShortGame think of Skytrak's potential for short game improvement?
Maybe useful in tandem with BLAST Motion?
alignment mose does not work on skytrak. you have to hit some chip shots and align the skytrak so the shots are centered
Do you think that Without the Trackman you would have kept it aiming right, and shot shape would have been off?
I had a skytrak and loved it for irons. But, it was awful for the driver. Half the time wouldn’t register my shots. And, when it did I could tell it wasn’t very accurate. But, it was great with irons. Also, the simulation software on the iPad was terrible. In order to make the simulation better you need a gaming computer and a different software package. That is another chunk of money. Overall, spend all that money on lessons and range time and you will be better off.
Can you do a video with you're new sand mat thinking of getting that setup for my simulator I'm building and would like to see how it works since you have you're impact screen
Sounds like Skytrack is a pretty solid unit.
Love your Video's Bro wish I had even a Sky Trac the world would eventually know my name a bit lol
Great video! Would you tell me where you got the hitting screen? Looks like it is a rolling up screen. Isnt it?
Par2Pro
Could you tell me how wide your screen is? It looks great! Excellent video!
13 feet
Thanks for the review!
Is there a promo code?
