In another bit of poetic justice: just lovely to see that the first time AP did work as advertised in this match, it was on the Midway. I imagine that the dev that pulled this practical joke (clutching at straws here) must have had trouble wiping the grin off his face.

I know right? I had a Moskva BULLY MY ASS back to port in a Buffalo by lol penning my bow over and over and over. WTF was up with the Accuracy?! Like I know its Russian but come on, the Moskva last I checked had pretty good accuracy.
To me it seems like the guns on the Moskva are really only effective against carriers and broadsiding cruisers

Every other ship was too angled (check the minimap) or too armoured (Schlieffen has a 380mm belt). Carrier was full broadside with very thin citadel armour. No mind tricks needed

Correct. It's been a minute since I played, but I seem to recall Moskva having pretty bad pen angles, so naturally, when every target that is fired at with AP is angled, you ain't doing much. Of course, since the Midway was not angled, then it was citadel city
A frequent moskva player here, the crap rng on the AP is actually very common and it's rare when you get a game where the AP actually preform like it's supposed to
That ap performance is pretty much what I see as a member of the ap overpen club. a dd can overpen a bb when you are a member.
How the Hell is that even possible? How do you OVERPEN a Battleship with Secondary Batteries? Maybe on the Super Structure cus reasons (even then that should be rare) but that should not be possible anywhere else.
@@jaywerner8415 it is a bug that started back around the 10 set of updates. once it affects you your ap for any ship hits like Yamato main ap. a complete uninstall-reinstall cycle does not fix it. a hard drive wipe / replacement has shown a 50% chance of fixing it.

I put down the game when a certain match just broke me. I cant remember what ships they were but I was shooting at the waterline of a broadside battleship. I was watching the shells, they did hit near the waterline and the center. All overpens. Return salvo annihilated me.
I can't enjoy a game with this degree of RNG.... And then there is the "overpen when plunging fire impacts the ship lengthwise". How does the happen? Did the shell hit the superstructure, go through the whole ship, exited on the bottom, and then exploded?
@@nazamroth8427 o yeah i had one game where i was shooting the one of the American hybrids as a Alabama and they all bounced or shattered then two games later im playing that hybrid and another Alabama took 2rds of my health some distnce and angle
The reason the "broadside" AP hits didn't do much was because the ships were angled - look at the minimap when the shots land, the ships were (in some cases very) angled.
Jingles milked it abit for sure. As soon as they turned in you can tell he's not going to get much damage.
@@tomriley5790 also, Moskva penetration was incredible for its time, but it's merely good in 2024. Combined with the lack of enhanced ricochet angles and it's nothing like the battleship he claims it to be. It also helps if you aim properly in order to get penetrations.

To penetrate the citadel you have to hit the citadel.
Moskva is obviously hitting the soft spots, overpenetrating, makes sense.
Its the ricochets in the same salvo I don't get.
It all makes sense to someone, I'm sure.

He's aiming at deck height so the overpens are through superstructure and the ricochets are off turrets and possibly belt armour, I think.

Higher velocity = shallower ballistic arc = flatter plunge angles. Deck riccochets.
Also, the higher velocity likely means less time available to fuse before over-penetrating out the other side.
And it did look like a lot of shot leads were too high, and too far ahead. So either skipping across the forward deck, or punching through the bow.
Exactly. You can easily have some shots in the same salvo hit the belt or the deck at a shallow angle (ricochet) and others hit the bow or stern (overpen).

I consider the fourth turret of the Annapolis a nerf for the exact reason shown here. A shitty Des Moines captain will maybe stay angled and ignore that they can't use the third turret... but not using two turrets? Impossible. "...must...show...broadside...!"
It's similar to the mindset of IJN cruiser players with regard to torp use. 😇
He had his brrrt gimmick going so he _absolutely had_ to use all 4 turrets to get MAXIMUM DPM

I stopped playing Moskva for exactly what was seen here. Richochets and overpens forcing HE when EVERYONE on the map can see you almost from the start. Fair play to the captain though, great positioning is what made this work. Another great vid, always a good time with Jingles.

Jingles, you really need to view the Schieffen's armour model because you seem to think it's made from paper. In what world is a 380mm lower belt (with spaced armour behind), 150mm upper belt, 50mm deck and huge 60mm ice breaker that covers most of the bow considered badly armoured? Its only real weakness is that the casemate guns act like shot traps. There isn't a single plate on the Moskva that is thicker than the comparable one on Schielffen - some plates are less than half thickness.
I think you got a bit carried away by the comparison. The British and German battlecruisers carry 15", 16” or 18” guns. The Moskva only has 220mm guns and STILL has much thinner armour where it counts.
Petro has genuine battleship penetration, not to mention enhanced ricochet angles. In comparison, Moskva only really has the better accuracy and decent penetration. It's not able to pull off crazy citadels on angles battleships in the same way as Petro.
Yes, the armor model would suggest it being tanky.
The Schlieffen is not tanky, it gets nuked by Moskvas regularly.
Stern and Bow plating is 27mm unless I am mistaken, I get that the rest of the ship is well armoured but for what is officially a T10 Battleship (I know its a battle cruiser) it really isn't super strong. I'm also pretty sure it doesn't get a turtleback, its an amazing ship, I unlocked it a few days ago but it does just seem to absolutely eat citadels.
@@HyperScorpio8688 yes, the armour scheme is somewhat awkward, but in raw thickness and coverage it's very good. The way the game models armour and damage is slightly strange (e.g. a 35mm plate bouncing an 18" shell with no damage), but even so the Schlieffen way more resilient against citadels and general damage when giving broadside.
My main gripe was that jingles went overboard with the comparison to Moskva, talking about how it doesn't sacrifice anything. Meanwhile the Schlieffen has much bigger guns much thicker armour over much more of the hull and isn't that much slower. He was shocked when he wasn't able to pen the belt of a Schlieffen when angled at 50 degrees, as if that was unexpected.
@@elijahdeitsch1487 you're correct, but the bow is mostly covered by an icebreaker, so in that respect is similar to Moska. There is pretty good vertical protection on the stern from the extended belt. The citadel is above water, but it's 380mm of external plating then the citadel itself is spaced inboard with additional armour. It mostly eats damage from other BBs due to the awkward shapes and shot traps on the casemate, but in terms of armour thickness and coverage, it's excellent in theory.
My issue is that Jingles was going on and on about how the Moskva doesn't have to sacrifice any armour to get good guns. However, the Schlieffen has much bigger guns, much better armour (in theory) and is almost as fast.
Leaving aside the fact it's a game, if there weren't silly mechanics like the hard overmatch rules (e.g a 32mm plate deflecting a 457mm shell but not a 458mm) then the Schieffen would be far more resilient than Moskva.
Jingles has a very interesting way of confusing a ship's belt armor with its regular plating on other areas.

Jingles forgetting this is WOWS, he also never showed by great game in a Thunderer where a Shima sneaked up on me and deleted my half health, with it's guns, in two salvos, scoring citadels, or the video from the next game where I was venting in chat about being citadeled by a Shima, being told it wasn't possible, then having it happen again.
There are days where you just have to put the mouse down, accept that it's WOWS and BS happens.

That shell performance is basically what I expect in every game I play. Cits? Ha-ha, no! Not until the guy's almost dead. Take your overpens and be happy. Once in a while you get to vaporize a nearly full health ship just to keep you from uninstalling.

This game reminded me of the last one I played. Went in with a Devonshire (I’m still working the UK tech tree) and got into a brawl with an Omaha. Full broad side salvo…8. Overpens.
At 1:38, if you're interested in the answer. Yes, it can happen, actually. In my country's region, we have The Virunga Mountains, which are a chain of 8 volcanoes located in East-Central Africa along the borders of Rwanda, Uganda, and the DR Congo.
Most are inactive but yes, it can happen.
I have seen myself aiming badly in World of Warships and some of those "bad luck" shots remind me of those.
That looked like one of my typical cruiser games to me. I should probably mention I'm great in BBs and DDs but I am just a hole in the water waiting to explode in a cruiser.

A lot of the time he was aiming too high. I reckon it probably bouncing off of the turrets and over penetrating the super structure
Citadels are mostly below the waterlines of the ships. Aim accordingly if you want to score devastating citadel hits.

i swear this game is more RNG based than skill. one game you pen every snapshot for full damage, the next you can have all the well-aimed shots you desire and get shit dispersion, over-pens, and rick-o-shays every salvo. i like everyone else here would love to see some sort of consistency. but instead, we get lots of new premium ships, and gimmick ships they want us to pay for.

I remember getting over-pen, pen, shatter and ricochet from the same salvo of AP from a Monarch. Thats why I always had to spam HE.
This game is exactly my wows experience. Has been since Closed Beta, and its never changed a bit

I gave up on this game at the cv rework, but I was close to getting the most moskva unlocked. Seeing how the ship got nerfed secretly and removed from tech tree is just sad. It was such a dangerous ship in it's release

Twice there between 3:30 and 4:00 you said "six armor piercing shots out...nothing!!!" a couple of times. Akshewally Jingles, they were HE. And he did get a few pens and overpens, just no fires. Come to think of it, it would have been hilarious if he had started a fire right after you said "armor piercing". In fact, even the preceding salvos from about 3:00 were HE even though he did switch to AP once, and then switched back prior to firing.
Flimsy needs to get rid of that Enemy-Ship shaped hole in his shot pattern

This was pretty much every game I played in my Moskva I remember learning about how amazing this ship was and then I got it and all I did was just get wrecked by citadels or screwed over by lack or over penetrations
I believe this guy is missing the legendary mod for Moskva to be more effective

Increasingly common these days to see Moskva players use HE at anything greater than 15k away regardless of whether it is broadsiding, not sure if the AP pen was altered a while back but it doesn't perform long range like it used to.
This reminds me of my games in my JPan on WoT after an update... I bounced shots off a tier 5 lights not angled rear...
This reminds me of a recent match where a Jinan accidentally popped out from an island 4km from my Kremlin. RNG scored it all as ricochets. The reload hitting the exact same spot nuked him.
Claus would say he needs to up his DPM to wargaming... That's Dollars Per Minute.
That RNG... I feel that pain... It's pretty much why I stopped being active.
The Moskva - it's got battleship armor, battleship firepower and...can cosplay as a submarine from time to time. it truly does everything.
The Moskva also has an enormous citadel. A broadside Moskva will pull a Minotaur if it isn't angled.
having played both..i can attest to that. I'm not a good player...and just getting to my camping position in the Moskva without eating a citadel or two beforehand from some BB on the other side of the map was a problem for me. The large spotting distance of the ship made it always uncertain if i would make it.
How did flimsylunchtray get his hands on MY Moskva? That's how mine always performs.
Jingles goes on and on about how bad the shell RNG is but this is like 70% of my battles in AP-focused ships

Most of my BB game look like that, broadside enemy overpen, torpedo belt hit, bounce.
And hen when he is finally on a few hundred HP I get the ctitadel.
Moskva with unique upgrade is nasty. Amazing accuracy with 21 kms of range.
The AP shells are nowhere near as good as Petro's but you're not supposed to rely on it anyway. For all intents and purposes, it's an HE spammer for the most part.

Russian Cruisers have decent Deck armor. That also explains the Overpens and ricochets in the same salvo.
Overpens on the Superstructure, bounces on the deck.
